There was nothing particularly wrong with this book, but it is forgettable. This is not a good thing for the first in a series. I read an awful lot, about a book a day so a book needs to stand out for me to really enjoy it. I have a good memory for what I read but this book didn't make any impression.
I enjoyed the family secret aspect and Mae while naive and like a typical teenager, absorbed in her own life still had something appealing about her.
This series is not one I'm going to continue since there are others out there that stuck with me.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
When Mae moves to the small town where her mother grew up, she isn't expecting to be there more than a few months. After, all, she and her aunt have been jumping from place to place for years. On the first day of school, she looses a family heirloom and learns that there is more to Plumpkin that anticipated (not that anyone will tell her what is going on). If her fated parabond can find the missing necklace and return it to her before the next full moon, she and he will be inducted as witches. Mae is determined to make her own choices - if she can find the necklace - can she make becoming a witch her own.
I really enjoyed the mystery aspects of the plot. Mae and her aunt are well depicted, though some of the side characters lack substance. I would be interested in seeing where the second novel goes.
I very much enjoyed Paranormal Bonds! The characters and the plot were so much fun! I was left wanting more (in a good way) at the end of the story, and I can't wait to read and see what else this series and author bring to the table!
Paranormal Bonds is not a book I would typically pick out to read but I'm glad I took a chance on this story! It was a fast-paced, quick read with sprinkles of secrets and mysterious, along with some coming-of-age business. I am excited to get my hands on the next book so I can learn more about Mae and her family.
Definitely would recommend for teen readers and young adults! Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
This is a magnificent start to a brand new series. I was hooked by the first chapter. The characters are relatable and the plot with the supernatural elements. Witches are always a plus in my book.
A solid urban fantasy for new adults/older teens. Mae Kingsley moves into her family’s lake house full time to go to high school in the sleepy resort town. But things are not quite what they seem. Mae is troubled by a mysterious coming of age ritual and family secrets her aunt keeps promising to reveal to her. Plus, two cute guys are expressing an interest in her which spells trouble with other girls in her class. Mae must figure out what is going on before her life and the paranormal bonding season ends…
The set up makes it seem like it is a paranormal romance but it isn’t really. There is some romance but the real focus is Mae trying to figure out what is going on and her place in this small town. Mae is a good character but the other characters need to be developed a bit more. Her aunt annoys me because she keeps on promising to tell her the secrets but doesn’t for no good reason.
A fast read. I would be interested in reading the next in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Small town with secrets - new girl who falls into it all - those family secrets will sneak up on you! Engaging tale of secrets kept and shared, of traditions to be broken, and a bit of coming-of-age. Engaging characters make for a quick and satisfying read!
Enjoyed this book, the characters and plot were good. It was well-paced and in the end, you find out the secret. The only downside was I needed a little more, which I hope the next book will bring.
It would have been better to have a little more of the council revealed but that was the cliffhanger to the next book.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book
This was a book that immediately drew me. Mae has been moving around with her Aunt since her mother died, never settling. Now they have returned to her mum’s hometown. But there’s more to this insignificant backwater town. I encourage you to read this book of witches, parabounds, outsiders and those in the know, which ain’t Mae. The story rushes forward as Mae hunts for her family history and her own future, and I came to the end wanting to know what happens next. This is the first in a series, and I know I don’t have long to wait for the next two books to be published. This book will suit older teenagers, and young adults of all ages. Thanks to Expresso book tours and NetGalley for letting me read an eARC, the views expressed are all mine and freely given.
A big thank you to NetGalley and GCMW Publications for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is young adult book. I liked the book, found it interesting and confusing. So much unexplained...I liked Mae, and didn't really have a lot of feelings about the rest of the gang. Not enough development. The ending is not a true cliff hanger but somewhere in between. Still nothing is really resolved. Mae does learn more about her mother-but it was like pulling teeth. Still unclear why her Aunt was so secretive. 3.5 stars
