Someone is after Rosa, one of the core members of Jane Does and a local police officer. Two murders, someone impersonating her, the second murder victim even looks like her... Rosa is removed from the investigation and is in the dark place. So the Jane Does step in and start investigating. Will they find the killer before he makes Rosa his last victim?
I love Kate Young. Her books are full of smart quirky characters who aren't afraid to step out of their comfort zone and will do anything for their friends an family.
I enjoyed reading Crime for the Books, a Jane Doe Book Club Mystery. Lyla Moody is the main character who lives in the town of Sweet Mountain, Georgia. She works for her uncle for Cousin's Investigative Services, Inc. as a receptionist and PI. A Mystery party fundraiser for the book Club is planned for Halloween. Elaine has offered her home, Magnolia Manor for the event. Elaine's cousin, Patricia Donaldson took Elaine to court about Elaine's inheritance of Magnolia Manor. While putting on the mystery party with all the players with the lights out and then on they discover the body of Patricia shot. This is where the story takes off with all kinds of strange things starting to happen making it confusing for Lyla to figure out who killed Patricia, etc. I will leave the adventure of the story for the readers to figure out. and enjoy with all the twists and turns.
Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC.
Crime for the Books is the third book in the Jane Doe Mystery series. Lyla Moody and her book club host a Halloween party with an Agatha Christie theme at Magnolia Manor. When the lights go out, shots are fired, and someone is murdered. This book starts out a little slow but builds up suspense and gets more interesting as it goes. I enjoyed it. Thank you for the advance copy Netgalley!
A Halloween party goes awry for the Jane Doe Book Club: possibly not the best idea the group has done to stage a murder on this date; even worse when a bystander is found murdered. The Jane Doe Book Club rallies behind one of their members, a police officer, who is not only being accused of not being professional during the initial investigation but is also being targeted as the next victim. Lyla, a P.I. and working aside the police, must use all her resources including the wisdom of Agatha Christie, to find the real killer. I did find the storyline to be a bit confusing at times but the idea of friends rallying around one of their own is so indicative what women will do. Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for an ARC of this book; this is my personal review.
Crime for the Books is the third book in the Jane Doe Mystery series. It started out slow and a little hard to follow, but maybe that was the plan because the characters in the story seemed to be confused too.
This series is about more than murder and mystery though, it's about relationships - the good, the bad, and the ugly and shows us what true friendship looks like. I wish everyone would have friends like the members of the Jane Doe Bookclub in their life..
I enjoyed this book although I’m not sure how Layla figured out who the killer is. The characters are great. #CrimefortheBooks #NetGalley

Thanks so much to Kate Young and NetGalley for giving me this arc in exchange for an honest review.
- Title: Crime for the books by Kate Young (ebook)
- Genre: Mystery/Thriller
- Summary: When the Jane Doe Book Club host a party themed Agatha Christie's "A murderer is announced" things turned for the worse when it gets too real.
- Thoughts: This book started off a bit slow but after a few chapters it picked up and got interesting. Though it's a crime novel it also thought me a lot about relationships and self reliance.
This book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review. A cozy mystery whodunnit…quirky characters…a book club…friends and those who are not such good friends…grab a warm afghan with a cup of tea…enjoy enjoy enjoy.
An all Too Real Murder…
The Jane Doe Book Club is plunged into another whodunnit in the third in this engaging series. Hosting a Halloween party at Magnolia Manor in the vein of Christie’s ‘A Murder Is Announced’ should be a whole lot of fun. Right? Not entirely. When the body becomes all too real, and the murder all too factual, the book club find themselves with an all too real murder mystery. Enjoyable and entertaining with a well drawn and colourful cast of characters. A worthy addition to the series.
I enjoyed Crime for the Books, which is about the Jane Doe book club.
This time one of their own is being accused of murder, and the investigation and back story is quite interesting.
I did find a few parts to be a little confusing, but that didn't take away from the storyline.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
