This was a fascinating story! Dr. Allison Fisher is a scientist in Chicago working with nuclear reactors. Nathan Silverman was born in Germany and escaped to America. He comes a soldier in the American army. Nathan and Dr. Fisher are sent to Germany to determine how far along they are in the race to build a nuclear weapon.
The story kept me turning the pages for the adventure and the risk that the characters were willing to take. It makes the reader think about the cost of war on both sides.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

I so thoroughly enjoyed this book. Nathan and Allison were such great characters. At times I wanted to smack Nathan, but he was such a good person! I really enjoyed Fred Glunk as well. What a great person to have on your side.
This book started out quickly and never let me go. I had such a hard time putting this book down.
I love this story!

An Affair of Spies by R.H. Balson, published by St. Martin's Press, is a full-length, historical novel.
The storyline is set in the 1940ties at WWII in the USA.
The US are at war with Germany and it's allies. Immigrants had to flee from the regime fearing for their lives.
The book paints an intriguing, raw and gritty picture, a story that checks all my boxes, 4,5 stars.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book thanks to the publisher and Netgalley. I loved the book and could hardly put it down. It was a departure from Balson's usual legal thrillers (which I also like), but this one was an intense and unique spy thriller. The premise of a Jewish refugee from Germany, now in the US Army, and an American female physicist entering Germany during the war to extract a German physicist and learn about Germany's progress with nuclear bombs was very exciting. The author did a great job explaining the fundamentals of nuclear power in an understandable way. I could imagine this book transforming into a great movie. I highly recommend this book and look forward to Balson's next one.
