Thank you so much to Net Galley and St Martin’s Press for the free copy of the ebook so I could write and honest review.
Elle Kennedy’s Good Girl Complex has been on my TBR for several months after hearing great things about it so I was thrilled to get this ARC! Midway through this book, I went and bought the first one to read next. I loved the story that much. I didn’t feel like I lost out on much starting with Bad Girl Reputation because there were enough details for me to not be lost. This book releases in October so you have plenty of time to read The Good Girl Complex first.
Gen is coming back to town for her mom’s funeral after being out of town for a year. Her dad convinces her to stay and help get the family business back in order. Evan and Gen dated in high school and when he finds out she’s back in town he has to come to terms with how much he missed her and what needs to change in order to get her back.
I loved Gen and Evan. They were so well written and even as someone who was a risk averse kid, I was able to really feel Gen’s struggles and root for her. I really can’t say enough good things about this. Really. Go read this and then let’s gush over it together.
Bad Girl Reputation is a different take on a second chance romance. Gen and Evan had an explosive on again off again romance for years. A year ago, Gen up and left without warning or contact. She is back for her mother's funeral. Both still have a strong pull towards the other, but the toxic element of their relationship is still there. I wasn't sure how Elle Kennedy was going to wrap up this love story in a way that was believable to me. There were a lot of toxic elements that I didn't think could be worked through, but I did buy into them working out all of their issues and being able to have a healthy relationship. Really good. 5 stars
I really enjoyed the characters from the Off-Campus series, which made picking up another book by Elle Kennedy an easy decision. Unfortunately, I have found the Avalon Bay series to be disappointing. In Good Girl Complex, it introduced us to the Hartley brothers, and Bad Girl Reputation picks up where they left off, but focuses on Evan's point of view. Evan has a tumultuous relationship with Genevieve West, and after the death of her mom, she's back in the Bay to help her family. Evan wants to work things out, but Gen only wants to get back to her new life.
Unfortunately, I had to DNF this book. I think the relationship between Gen and Evan is chaotic. Also, you should not have a relationship with someone just because of overwhelming physical chemistry. It doesn't showcase a healthy relationship. These characters were incredibly immature and toxic. Plus, I couldn't follow all the side characters either. This book was a miss for me. I struggled through Good Girl Complex, but this story seemed even slower and I did not buy the second chance romance at all.
Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC!
After devouring Good Girl Complex, I was thrilled to be able to jump right into Evan's book, but sadly ... it fell flat of my expectations.
I loved than Evan and Genevieve were getting a second chance, but it honestly didn't feel like they worked through anything together - they up-and-decided to be better people and just, were?? It feels like there was so much focus on how problematic the relationship was and instead of the characters working through the issues - they just hurtled right over them. That, along with the with fact the Genevieve couldn't even commit herself to Evan and had another guy on the side the entire book, just led to an overall lackluster storyline for this book. I was so excited for the possibility of seeing real growth and maturity with these two characters that the end result was underwhelming for me. I honestly felt like we saw more growth from Shelley than either of these two.
That being said, it was great to see more of the side characters in the novel. I'd love to see additional books on any of the West brothers, or even Steph or Heidi.
I received an Advanced Copy of this book courtesy of St. Martin's Press and NetGalley in exchange for my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was so cute! A wonderful romance, filled with witty banter, delightful characters, and just enough steaminess. A must read for romance lovers!
I feel like I really wanted to enjoy this book seeing as i really liked the first one, but this one just kinda fell flat for me.
I loved the premise of it, a bad girl gone good (but not really), but i feel like i didnt know know any of the old characters. Coop felt like such an asshole without a cause to me. I understood he wanted to protect Evan but the way he would just say things about Gen annoyed me so much!
Overall i feel like we got a lot of info from the other side characters and not that much from Evan himself. The moments between Evan and Gen were moments i really enjoyed but other than that i was disappointed.
Not sure wich couple will follow this one but I’m still looking forward to continue the series in this town Elle Kennedy has created.
Thank you to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Fun summer rom -com. Main characters were not developed well, but story line was intresting. I enjoyed a little twist at the end.
I loved the first book in the Avalon Bay series and i was so excited to get my hands on this one and let me tell you it lived up to all my expectations! Elle Kennedy has a way of writing MMCs that make my heart turn to mush. This book was fun and spicy and also serious and thought provoking at times. I loved the side character cameos and can’t wait to read more about them in upcoming installments
A classic will they or won't they second chance romance with heat, Bad Girl Reputation was a fast read. Gen returns home to Avalon Bay for her mother's funeral and one of the first people she sets eyes on is her best friend and ex Evan. The chemistry between them is lightening but Gen wants to stick her bad girl past firmly in her past. She does her best to avoid him and keep her life together but their magnetic chemistry is too difficult to avoid.
Can Gen stay sober and settle down with Evan? Is Evan mature enough to build a life with her? Is chemistry enough to sustain a relationship?
Sizzling read by Elle Kennedy and I look forward to reading more from her. Thanks to NetGalley and St Martin's Press for the ARC.
If you are looking for a great rom-com, this book is it. It’s funny, touching, sexy. You will get sucked into the romance and emotion.
Thanks NetGalley for the Arc!
Elle Kennedy writes with such ease that it’s a breeze to get through her books. It was fun to read Bad Girl Reputation after Good Girl Complex. I’d love to read more of her books!
Genevieve comes home for her mothers funeral. She has recently completely moved away to ditch all her old habits and old boyfriend, Evan. But of course seeing him at the funeral brings back old feelings. She’s determined not to slip back into her partying and troublesome ways. Evan can not give her up that easily. Can people change together? Are they meant to be if they both need to grow so much? Is it worth it to change for someone?
I give Gen so many props to do what is best for herself. Giving up drinking alone is such a challenge. I know it’s always harder when people return home after trying to break free of their habits/vices.
There was a ton of steam in this book. Some I could’ve done without. It was also suggested that Evan really got around. That part confused me a bit because it seemed like he & Gen were together for most of their lives. He really adores her though and works hard at changing himself to be better for her. I’m not sure we needed that bad boy layer to his character. It made him a bit of a hard sell for me if he’d slept around so much even though he swears they’re meant to be.
There was a lot going on in this story which was fun but sometimes chaotic. There were also some heavy themes (addiction, sexual assault, drugs). Kennedy does a nice job addressing both sides of these things.
I absolutely loved Genevieve and Evan and their will they/won't they throughtout this book. I may have been a bit wild in my youth so I found Genevieve quite relatable along with her struggle to forgo alcohol. It's definitely a tough thing to change something that was such a huge part of the way you interacted with your entire friend group. The spicy bits were great and the evolution of the main characters were addictive to read.
If you like romance with depth, grat characters, and steamy spicy bits then this is definitely the book for you!
This was my first Elle Kennedy novel and I absolutely loved it! I found some aspects of the story to be dark and chilling which always keeps me interested!
I would 1000000% recommend this to my friends and now have Elle Kennedy as one of my top authors!
After reading Good Girl Complex and loving it earlier this year, I went on an Elle Kennedy binge and have now read 9 of her books! I’m happy to say Bad Girl Reputation was worth the wait! I flew to rough this one! I was excited for Evan’s story after seeing glimpses of him in Good Girl Complex. I’m not sure if I loved Evan and Gen quite as much as Cooper and Mac, but I still really liked this one! I loved their beach town and the second chance romance between Gen and Evan. Evan’s transformation was a little quick, but I liked seeing both of them work on themselves. I’m hoping there were hints at the end that this will be a longer series!
Small town, first love, crazy past and a path leading to the right direction. We meet Gen when she returns home to her past and her first love, Evan. They are two magnets drawn to each other. We see their individual journeys to be better than their past. I adore their bond. So much hope and faith things will work out in the right direction, if only you believe in yourself and what you are capable of.
3.75 ⭐️- this book was a fun, quick read! Bad girl Gen is back in town after disappearing the previous year, and no one is happier than her on again, off again bf since forever, Evan. This book follows Gen and Evan as they realize they can’t go on the way they always have, and try to turn their lives around not only for each other, but for themselves. I loved that this book gave us insight to Mac and Cooper following Good Girl Complex, the boys’ family drama with their mom, and the hotel! A big shout out to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC, catch this book when it comes out in October!!
Underwhelming, gave B list Tessa Bailey. There was a lack of plot and overall character growth for me.
I loved this installment of the Avalon Bay series!! Getting to know Evan and Gen while also catching up with Cooper and Mac made for such a enjoyable read. From the friend group, family members, the villain, reinvention of oneself, reconnecting, still hilarious pup and introduction of some new characters - this book was a hit! I’m already counting down to the next release!
10/10 recommend this series!

Another stunning, sexy story from Elle Kennedy! I'm not sure if the Avalon Bay series will continue, but I sure hope it does because there are so many characters I'd love to continue following! Evan and Gen's story was a sweet one that tied a boy on the Hartley brothers story. Excited to see if we get more of this town!
unfortunately I had to DNF this book at 40% I loved Elle Kennedy's briar u and off campus series and overall liked the good girl complex bur I couldn't connect with this one
