Marlowe Banks is a designer that by the turns of life ends up in a scene of a famous series as an extra and even more amazing, the camera catches a heated look between her and the bad boy star of the show.
The romance was sweet, but the references to clothing in TV shows and theater? Love it as I'm particularly into that kind of thing. But back to Marlowe and Augus, their relationship will make you question once again your standards (a.k.a go higher to the skies)
If you love a romance with the Hollywood star that is more than what is seems, this is for you!
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Marlow Banks, Redesigned by Jacqueline Firkins is a fun summer read. I try not to judge books by their cover but the cover design for this book was so fun and cute I knew I had to give it a try and am glad I did. I love the way Marlowe just kind of fell into some of the circumstances and how fun and light hearted this book is.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.
Marlowe Bank is not having a good time. She has recently ended her engagement (with no warning) and fled NYC due to a horrid review on her costume design of a play production. She tries to reinvent herself in LA working as a Production Assistant to a she-wolf boss that likes to blur the lines between production assistant and personal assistant. As Marlowe works on a popular TV series, she is learning somethings, but really wants to get back into design, not sorting socks and picking up orders from stores all over LA.
Due to a mix-up with a costume not being picked up timely, Marlowe steps in as a small background player on the show. However, Marlowe's earlier run in with the hot-lead actor, leaves the scene a little too steamy for viewers, they want more!! As Marlowe and Angus spend more time together, they realize there is more than meets the high. That the glamourous Hollywood life is not reality - it is mostly smoke and mirrors.
Then, an opportunity presents itself back in NYC - can she leave LA and the hunky actor and try again, or will the fear of failure, keep her in LA?
I found this to be an interesting read. Since the author has experience in this field, I feel like I got to see behind the scenes. I look forward to more books by this author.
I so enjoyed this book. The characters were likeable and relatable, and I really appreciated the storyline of Marlowe learning who she was and being confident in the decisions that she made.

Thank you @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the #ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Marlowe Banks is attempting to find success as a costume designer in LA and when she is the only person on set to fit into a waitress costume, she is recruited for a brief appearance. Wouldn't you know that a brief look would cause social media to go crazy and totally ship Marlowe and the show's bad boy lead, Angus.
While, yes, this is a romance and predictable, it also is a story about Marlowe and Angus both discovering their worth, A highly enjoyable book.

I loved the description of this book and went in with high expectations! And this book did not disappoint! With ties to the back side of Hollywood and wardrobe design, this book truly gives you insight to what it means to be behind the scenes (and its not always glamorous!). Love the relationship between Marlowe and Angus - you just can't help but love their banter. Marlowe is such a fantastic main character and I highly recommend this booK!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book
Guys, I LOVED this book. LOVED IT. I wish I could read it again for the first time! It's so swoon worthy and charming! Marlowe's life is a bit of a mess, and nothing is going her way. She's fresh from a break up and in a career isn't going the way she hoped. Everything changes when a costume issue causes her to have to step onto the screen for the TV show she works for. The chemistry between Marlowe and the TV's leading man Angus is so hot the internet immediately ships them as a on screen couple. The problem is Angus seems to be entitled and the two do not get along. Their relationship is STEAMY and their banter is amazing. It's a slow burn romance full of great conversations and a lot of heart. I loved it!
Blown away by the book. While I read a lot of romance, this is not your average one. Marlowe Banks is SO entirely relatable, I think everyone can find themselves in her just a bit. There's amazing character growth throughout the entire book and in the end it's like the author realized that we all need a warm hug, and that's what we got. Keep your mind open about this one, because you're sure to love it.
You know those books that are light (yet with some character development/introspect/growth) and perfect for a lazy day at the pool?! This was exactly it.
I simply adored experiencing Angus & Marlowe's life happenings. AND there was a scene that I wanted to jump right into it and party with them. Who doesn't love just being slightly tipsy and losing themselves on the dance floor and becoming one with the music?!
And for once...there was only 1 character I despised. But he doesn't even need to be named. 🫢
This reads as a romance stereotype. It's an okay read but I was looking for something more. I stopped reading at 33%. DNF.

Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Griffin, and Jacqueline Firkins for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! This is a really fun book that follows Marlowe as she leaves for California after some unfortunate events. I really liked all of the characters in this novel and especially the ending! The writing was also amazing and I truly felt the chemistry and romance between Marlowe and Angus. It’s funny, charming, and a great read. I recommend this one!
This was really fun! Marlowe is a costume design assistant for a hit TV show, but she's suddenly thrust into the spotlight when the only waitress costume is too small for the extra. Although Marlowe thinks she does the basic background work of pouring coffee, the cameras pick up smoldering looks between her and the star of the show, leading to an #IShipTheWaitress hashtag. Suddenly, Marlowe's role gets elevated to long lost love interest... and she and the lead actor start crushing on each other in real life, too. This isn't quite as light as your typical rom com, though - Marlowe is pretty frazzled and messy, not in an adorable / annoying Zoey Deschanel way, but in a realistic way. She's had a bunch of failures in her life and she's trying to figure out what her next step is, which was interesting (though honestly also a bit of a downer). My only dislike was the veryyyyyy slow burn of the romance, which made me wish Marlowe could take a leap of faith sooner rather than resisting far too long.
New York, California, fashion, TV stars, tabloids, romance ... this book has it all!
Marlowe had some career and relationship troubles in New York, so she leaves for sunny California. She's sort of hiding from her troubles working as a PA. Through a bit of happenstance, she ends up as an extra on hunky Angus's TV show. Sparks fly and fans notice.
I really enjoyed the characters and romance in this book. Thanks NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the eARC.
This book warms my heart and soul. I have so many passages highlighted and I cannot WAIT to have a physical copy so I can go all tab crazy in it.
I could relate to Marlowe in SO MANY WAYS. Especially with the feeling of not feeling good enough because of how many times someone important in her life practically told her that everyday. I have had a Kelvin in my life and lemme tell ya, that relationship turned me into one of the worst versions of myself. I loved being able to see Marlowe grow into her own person and realize who she really, truly is without others telling her otherwise.
I loved Angus from the moment we met him. I knew immediately after his little outburst that he was going to be my new book boyfriend. I saw someone describe Angus as like an onion, full of so many layers and as you keep peeling them back, you learn more and more about this person Angus actually is rather than who the media makes you see. He is so sweet and caring and supportive. I loved the banter between him and Marlowe. I also really appreciated how patient he was with her.
I just know that this will be a comfort book that I'll look back to. I need a shirt that says like "death by yak" or something like that.
I really enjoyed this one! All of the characters were so incredibly likable and I was genuinely rooting for all of their success. The ending for our two main characters made me EXTREMELY happy for reasons that I don't want to get into because AHEM SPOILIES, but yeah. This book was a delight. Some of the things that I really enjoyed about this book aside from the characters were Agnus's willingness to help out Marlowe in her times of need, the tension during the cutesy "will they, won't they" moments, and Marlowe's standing up for herself in some certain situations.
Also, can we talk about the writing for a second?!?!??!?!? This writing in this story was BEAUTIFUL . The descriptions of all the characters, settings, feelings, LITERALLY EVERYTHING were so well done and it made me feel so invested and immersed in the story.
The ONLY thing that I can think of that I didn't necessarily like about this story was Agnus's fascination with Marlowe RIGHT from the get-go. I loved his little flirty little pining moments, but it felt a bit out of nowhere at times. I would have liked to see it a bit more, but truly, that wasn't even a negative thing that deterred from the story in any way.
I recommend this book to literally anyone because it was such a feel good story, and I can't wait to get my own personal copy!
Big thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review!
A light and fun romance with likable characters and a plot that moved along quickly. Overall Marlowe Banks Redesigned made for an enjoyable read.
I wasn't too certain about this one at first since I'm not much into the Hollywood scene and all it entails, but the more I read this story, the more I enjoyed it.
I especially liked seeing Angus come out of his shell and Marlowe learn to stand up for herself and to pursue what makes her happy, rather than what other people expect.
There was also one passage that spoke to me very much, when Marlowe is thinking about how relationships develop their own language that's just for the two people involved, and how that's part of the fun of a new relationship--developing that lexicon-- and often a cause of the grief when a relationship ends--that that language dies with it.
Thanks to Jacqueline Firkins, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an advance review copy.
Just cannot get in to this one! I’m almost 40% in and haven’t connected with the characters and don’t care about anything that’s happening. Probably going to take a break from reading for a bit as this keeps happening.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Marlowe Banks, Redesigned by Jacqueline Firkins is an adorable rom-com with a completely original protagonist. The story revolves around Marlowe, who is working as a lowly Production Assistant on a TV show. One day, unexpectedly, she volunteers to play a background character when no one else can fit into the costume. Then, sparks fly between her and lead actor Angus, a famous movie star. Soon, Marlowe is being asked to reprise the role for a few more episodes. Are the sparks between her and Angus real? Or is it all acting?
Here is a hilarious excerpt from Chapter 1:
"Marlowe Banks never dreamed that an MFA from Yale would earn her a job organizing hangers, picking crusted insoles out of an old pair of Top-Siders, and busting every last fingernail in an attempt to resize a watchband using only a safety pin and the force of her formidable will. The title Costume Production Assistant had sounded so glamorous. More commonly referred to as a PA, she was a cog in a machine. Nothing more.
“Just great,” she muttered as the safety pin slipped and blood beaded on her finger for the third time. “Amazing opportunity. Spectacular learning experience. Dream job.”"
Overall, Marlowe Banks, Redesigned is a fun rom-com that is like if The Devil Wears Prada met Famous in Love. The office dynamics with an overbearing boss reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada while the ordinary-person-becomes-famous plot reminded me of Famous in Love. One highlight of this book is the character growth of the main character. Dynamic characters are not often seen in rom-coms, and Marlow is a breath of fresh air. Another highlight of this book is the premise, which is a situation any reader would love to be in If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of rom-coms in general, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in October!
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the arc, all thoughts are my own.
I'm astonished, blown away & bewildered by this beautiful flawless book. The pure euphoria when a book exceeds all your expectations is out of the world & this was one such for me.
Love would be a small word to describe the romance. Everything was upto the mark. The meet-cute, the tension/angst between Angus & Marlowe was intoxicating. I loved how they bonded over time. What started out as a low-key enemies-to-lovers turned into a slowest burn possible.
I adored how the inside jokes, honesty, steam was portrayed. Angus came across as a a jerk at first but went Marlowe gets to know him, so many layers come off.
Again I loved how Marlowe's journey was presented with the theme of failure, criticism & social media.
And the last 2-3 chapters were completely breathtaking. An unexpected story after my own heart. Can't wait for the world to read it!
