This book turned out to more of a well-researched creative non-fiction than a dry, brain science non-fiction. Layered with her own hit-and-miss relationships and professional endeavors, the story made sense as a way to illustrate the science. I wasn't fully engaged in the personal side of the book, but I still enjoyed it enough to finish.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* LOVED this book! will totally reread it, even if it made me cry! The facts in this book and the story of the authors life is just so touching and relatable, 100% would buy!
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of Wired for Love.
This was a fantastic scientific and speculative book. I cried a little for sure.
I thought the premise of this book was fascinating, as it explores the intersection of self and science. There have been other hybrid memoirs in this vein that I've loved and read. And this cover is gorgeous.
However, this one fell flat for me, because it lacked the objectivity to be purely science, and the self-awareness to be memoir. Because of this, a lot of this book read like Cacioppo trying to justify her own experiences via science, and cherry-picking science to support her own experiences.
I want to give some grace with some of my biggest frustrations, because I know that English is not Cacioppo's first language, but the use of acronyms (FOMO/JOMO, etc) was exhausting, and I felt like the way that Cacioppo spoke to queer experience was primarily lip service (it's hard to maintain an atmosphere of inclusivity when both the print copy and the audiobook use "transgendered" instead of "transgender," [I'm sincerely hoping this was corrected before the book went to print]. and the entire thesis of the book essentially dismisses our aromantic/asexual friends.)
I primarily read this via audio, and while I appreciated the narration, I think the clinical writing of even the personal parts of this book just made it hard to feel fully connected or invested.
This was fantastic -- a really good combination of memoir and narrative non-fiction.

Warning: There is a strong potential that this book will make you cry. Dr. Stephanie Cacioppo describes both her scientific and romantic evolution in a way that makes it impossible not to become invested. Cacioppo enriches descriptions of the neurological components of love with personal anecdotes. If you are curious about biology and a romantic this is the book for you! Though not my favorite science book, or my favorite memoir both components were very well done.
Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for this ALC.
I had a feeling I would love this book just based on the title and the synopsis, and I was not disappointed. Wired For Love is an interesting and captivating book with a beautiful mix of memoir and science. Stephanie Cacioppo's research and personal story gave us beautiful insight.
This book is filled with science in an understandable way (important to someone like me!) and provides helpful and hopeful information. I felt validated throughout this book. Cacioppo has a way of showing all sides of the love spectrum that was wonderful to read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me listen early!
