Is this the best book about witches I've read?
Do I have a soft spot for these authors? Yes.
Does that mean that my review may be biased? Mayyyybeee.
I love this series. I was hooked from the start and that ending has me needing the next one right away. I love Hunter. I like Mercy but wanted to shake her a lot in this one. This one was definitely darker than the first and oh so good. I loved our new characters. I cannot wait to read more about them in the next book. I definitely recommend this series. Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.
I struggled to finish the first book as I found both of the sisters annoying, however I hoped they might develop in the second installment. The first book had just enough plot that I was intrigued to try book two. Sadly it was much of the same and there wasn't enough to keep me reading this. Alas it was a great as a premise but I just couldn't get into it.
First, I’d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book. I am leaving this honest review of my own will.
I loved this one. Another book where she didn’t disappoint!
I really wanted to like this one but I just did not care for it. I found a hard time getting lost in to the story, I found myself not being able to focus or connecting with the characters.
This was fine. I enjoy this theming of macabre and witches, but this fell flat for me.
Honestly, I couldn't finish listening to my audiobook because I stopped caring.
this is a huge miss for me. This book felt awkward in all aspects such as dieties, funeral, cat aunt, romance, slang etc. If you enjoyed book 1 then you will enjoy book 2. For me book 1 was okay solid three stars but this felt like a repeat of book 1. The book wanted to have a lesbian main character and yet... it was awkward, strange, and forced. I didnt care for either sister. Again it felt they were the same character and i had to be reminded often which sister the focus meant to be on. I dont think this series is for me which makes me sad because i love PC Cast.
OMEN’S BITE: Sisters of Salem Book 2
P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast (@pccastauthor & kcastauthor)
Fantasy/YA
As two twin witches travel their own paths after the sudden death of their mother. One on a path that could only lead to trouble and the other on a path the will take her to the Egyptian Underworld.
I really liked this book although you could tell in parts that it was written for a younger generation. It was a real pager turner for me. This was definitely a five star read for me. I recommend it for fantasy lovers of any generation.
This was not the author’s best work. I initially DNF’d the first book, but decided to give it a try again because of the sequel. But I was still disappointed with the series overall.
This audiobook had a fabulous narration! It really kept me listening to the story.
Hunter and Mercy, twin witches, have a lot going on in their lives! I loved all the magic in this book and all the situations they each got in to.
I really enjoyed this second in this series me look forward to the next! Great audio!
These two authors write such wonder worlds, loved their House of Night Series and this one looks just as promising!
Thank you to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Omens Bite (Sisters of Salem #2) by P. C. Cast & Kristin Cast
Narrated by Cassandra Campbell
Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Genre: Teens & YA, Fantasy
Published: April 5, 2022
Omens Bite is the second book in the Sisters of Salem series by P. C. Cast & Kristin Cast. This book picks up where the previous book ends, so it would be best to read the first book, Spells Trouble, before jumping in to Omens Bite.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. There was a lot going on and I'm hopeful the characters will redeem themselves in the next book. I found this book to be interesting, but felt that it was missing something. I thought the characters were well developed (even though they acted like bratty teenagers). There were some parts I really enjoyed and I will definitely keep reading this series.
The narrated by Cassandra Campbell was wonderful! I really enjoyed how she brought the story to life!
This book does end of GIANT cliffhanger, which was kind of frustrating because I felt like the characters are just finding themselves in worse shape then when they started this journey.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
An entertaining albeit slightly unfulfilling follow up to Spells Trouble. Not much happened in this installment apart from Mercy being an awful person and Hunter dealing with the repercussion's of Mercy's selfishness. I'm not entirely sure this book was necessary... definitely suffering from major second-book-syndrome.
After reading the first in the series, I was so excited to get to this. This narrator did such a great job with this story and the characters. I really enjoyed the audiobook and this series as a whole. I had a really great time with this!
Twin sisters, Mercy and Hunter are witches, descendants of the Goode family of witches. After the murder of their mother at the hands of a foul demon, they have become the protectors of the Gates to different underworlds--ancient portals between their world and realms where mythology rules and the darkest of creatures exist.
The problem is that the Goode sisters have split from each other. Grief and anger have torn them apart, driving Mercy to save the cursed Gates on her own and Hunter into the arms of a dangerous goddess.
i love witchy books. this second book in the sisters of salem sequel to Spells Trouble a YA fantasy it picks up where the last book leaves off. Mercy & Hunter's mom passed away & they are still mourning her death. Mercy & Hunter are the guardians of the underworld gate and something is making the gate "sick" and they need to find out what's going on before all the demons and evil escape. The sisters are not seeing eye to eye at this time so they are working apart to solve a series of murder that has been happening. In this book you will get dual POV between the two sisters so you can understand what each sister is going through. I enjoy POV books better than full third party point of view. i like how some spells/rituals are detailed, including verbiage used. Xena the cat person is interesting. the book tackles the complexity of family/sibling relationships.
i received this arc audiobook from NG and this is my voluntary review. I like the narrator, she did a great job, her voice matches the characters, there is often issues with choosing the right narrator as for younger characters you need to have a narrator that is able to do a younger voice as someone with 30+ year old voice is not going to match well. wish i was able to also receive a physical book arc as well, i would love to add this book to my witchy book collection.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* This series is shaping up to be pretty good, i would have reread the first book before restarting this but luckily i didn't have to because i remembered it enough. looking forward to read this series when it's finished.
I liked Omens Bite so much better than spells trouble. There was a lot more of a story to me in this novel. The sisters are at odds and there is no build up to the story since it picked up where the first novel ended. However I found some chapters more enjoyable than others. The Mercy point of view chapters made me really hesitate continuing the novel. She just acts like a self absorbed brat. While this is part of the story and meant to be part of her traits but it was making the story really hard to read at times. I really enjoyed hunter’s chapters better.
Mercys character is very self-centered and likes to be the “pot calling the kettle black”. Everything Hunter did was wrong and no one could tell her differently. This really started to wreck this series for me because it was too over the top.
Hunters chapters were so much more enjoyable and had so much more happening. There was action and suspense where mercys were mostly complaining about Hunter. Hunters character however shows how important boundaries are. She really stands up for herself in this story and I loved it.
Overall I really want to enjoy these books more than I do as a whole. I really feel like Hunters chapters saved this novel for me. I would have had to mark it as a did not finish if it wasn’t for those. Instead I’m excited for the next novel especially with the cliffhanger ending this one had. I feel like it redeemed itself at the end.
Audiobook Review
I only listened to a few chapters of the audiobook. I didn’t feel the narrators voice fit the characters that well. The voice used for Mercy sounded too valley girl for me. I found the print version better for this reason alone.
I loved this one so much more than the first one.
They toned down the "teen slang" and it just felt like it flowed Better.
And the story was had a lot more going on. Makes me excited for the next one
OMEN’S BITE (Sisters of Salem #2) by P. C. Cast & Kristin Cast is a fun YA novel! I enjoyed the first book, Spells Trouble, in this trilogy so I was excited to see what would happen next to twin witch sisters Mercy and Hunter. In this book they have to protect the gates to the underworld. I enjoyed the magical elements in this novel especially how Mercy is a green witch and draws her power from nature. It was an interesting sister dynamic since they split up and deal with grief in their own ways. Once again my fave character is the cat person Xena. She lends some fun and humour to the book. The dialogue felt very forced like they were trying too hard to sound like teenagers. Told in multiple POV which is good to get to know both sisters but the inclusion of Mercy’s ex Kirk should have been left out. In the end I’m curious to find out what happens next in the final book of this trilogy. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator Cassandra Campbell did a great job!

Thank you to Wednesday Books for my advance review copy and Macmillan Audio via NetGalley for my ALC!
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader and audiobook copy of Omens Bite by P. C. Cast and Kristin Cast in exchange for an honest review. I originally received the ebook and was looking forward to reading the second book in the series. Then the audiobook became available and I just decided to listen to it. This was a great second book. It was a little hard to listen to as Mercy and Hunter's mom died in the first book and they are dealing with the grieving process and my mom just died. I loved the storyline and am very excited for the next book. I really enjoyed how the authors showed how much perception shapes reality.
A lighthearted, humorous novel from the Cast family. There were some elements that I felt were a bit cheesy, but overall it was enjoyable. I enjoyed book one in this series and this one filled a similar niche.
