Unfortunately I like the first book better. This one just felt flat to me. Really a bummer cuz I was looking forward to it but thank you not galley for the arc.

My Highly Caffeinated Thought: A continued magical saga centering around two teenage witches and their struggle to protect all they love.

OMENS BITE returns with our young twin witches, Mercy and Hunter, exactly where we left them. The loss, emotions, and repercussions of the previous events surrounding their mother’s death as well as the decaying of the Gates is the catalyst for questionable magical choices and heightened reactions. Teenagers can be rash and sensitive in normal circumstances, but the authors push our characters to the limit as they journey down separate paths.

What is so wonderful about this series is how the authors build the world centered around the Goode witches. There is history, lore, and otherworldly elements. All of which explored within the prose enhance the tale. As they learn, so does the reader. This gradual development of how things interconnect is compelling and positively enjoyable. And let us not forget the bonuses of having the mythology of the Egyptian Underworld brought into the mix, murderous monsters, certain Goodeville citizens looking to take action against our young witches, and the hate growing in Goodeville. It is great how much this sequel is giving us all the intrigue, magic, and darkness a fantasy lover could want.

All in all, experiencing how Hunter’s choices push her to the breaking point while Mercy’s leave her in peril pushes the reader further down the rabbit hole of Goodeville’s complicated past and present. We are one step closer to finding out how this will all end and I for one am excited to get the next book.

When I was younger, I read a bunch of books from these authors’ House of Night series, and now I kind of want to revisit them, but I also don’t want to ruin my nostalgic memories…not sure if I’d still appreciate them the same way today. Anyway, I didn’t realize that this book was the second in another series; my fault for not checking it out more closely when requesting it, but I definitely felt like I was a bit lost at some points near the beginning since I haven’t read the first one. Most things I was able to eventually piece together, but it took a bit more work. Some parts of this one were just odd or not particularly appealing to me, but others were funny and intriguing. There was also an interesting mix of mythology from different cultures that the authors drew on. I liked the story okay but didn’t love it. That being said, even though I wasn’t super invested, I did still have some feelings about the cliffhanger ending. I’m not sure if it’ll be enough to make me continue with the series, but it’s possible.

As usual I don't want to say to much about this book specifically because it is a sequel but I will talk about the series as a whole.
I have enjoyed this series so far. Its not my favorite Cast book but its still a very solid series. I love the characters and the focus on goddesses that is always presente is Cast books. I am definitely excited for more.

Wait no that can’t be it!! Omg these authors had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I don’t trust anyone. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

This is book 2 in the Salem sister series. Book 1 was spells trouble

Mercy and hunter mother has died and they are mourning her death. Someone has come through the gates and inhabiting another body but they find know who. A bunch of murders occur and they do not know who is behind it. The sisters are working separately due to an argument but they are both going though a lot. Can they save the town before something worse comes to town and the gates fall apart completely .

Found the narrator to be engaging!

The second book in the "Sisters of Salem" series picks up where the first one left off.. so if folks are reading this as a standalone, it'll be quite confusing. Anyway, I really liked that in this book, I could easily distinguish between the twins, Hunter and Mercy, a little bit more. This made the story more interesting as the sisters had their own thing going on and felt like they were forming into their own characters a little bit more than in the second book. What I didn't like was that the sisters spent 80% of the novel complaining about each other to their friends... and sometimes, it felt like they weren't teenagers. That being said, I enjoyed the mysterious ending and I'm looking forward to reading the third book!

Omens Bite is the second book in the Sisters of Salem series and takes place right after the events in Spells Trouble.

Hunter and Mercy Goode are twins that couldn't be more opposite. They are witches that are direct descendants of the founder of their town. They need to save the town as more deaths happen.

Hunter and Mercy spend most of this book complaining about each other and how selfish they are. The middle dragged on for me and I just kind of wanted to speed everything along. I also hated the Kirk angle and how abusive his behavior was. There's a lot of lesbomisia and bullying that happens in this book as well and I didn't feel like it added to the story.

As far as narration goes, I thought that Cassandra Campbell sounded older than 16, but I found it easy to discern Hunter from Mercy and was able to speed up the audio to listen to this.

I did enjoy that Omens Bite was mysterious and ended on a cliffhanger. I enjoyed the premise and am curious to see where this series goes next.

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for providing me with an advanced listening copy in exchange for an honest review.
