Definitely loved This more than the first one. Izumi is a selfless daughter and a person. Obviously she grew and matured. She finally manage to fight for she wants. I love the cultural facts of Japan and it’s nice to include some realistic things into a fictional story. Makes it more entertaining and the love story was definitely a good one.

Izumi is living her best life. She is finally getting hang of this royalty thing… right? In this novel, she is presented with another hard question “to be or not to be?” She wants to please everyone but in doing so she might be losing herself. Can she be herself and still make the life she wants?

This was an audiobook and I think Ali Ahn does a great job at portraying Izumi. She really brings her to life. I listened at 2x the speed and was able to feel all the emotion coming off the track.

The story itself was very entertaining. I felt it was good because the drama isn’t what you’d expect. There’s no outside force wanting things to go bad for Izumi. It’s all a personal dilemma. It makes her very relatable.

This will be spoiler-free as this didn’t release until 31.5.22 or 5.31.22 however you read dates. LOL.

I liked it a lot! Very cute coming of age story. Love triangle, fake dating, unlikely friendships (with dogs haha), and growing friendships! If you liked the first, you’ll like the second!

4+ stars for this sequel to Tokyo Ever After. This book continues with the life of Izumi and her parents as they navigate post-secondary choices, Royal etiquette, and tough decisions.

Although this one doesn’t have the thrill of a first book, I loved to hear Izumi’s story continue. While the first book has her being swept up in the Royal life, book two brings choice and heartache. Past characters return and new characters weave into the story. By the end of the book, I was wishing for more (book three, please?).

I enjoyed the audiobook of Tokyo Dreaming. I thought it was a sweet story with real life ups and downs of a teenager, plus trials and tribulations of a royal--I had know idea. I think my students will be excited to read this follow up to Tokyo Ever After. I liked the characters and felt like I was in Japan.

I was so happy to see that Tokyo Ever After had a sequel and this one does not disappoint. It's always nice to see where the story goes and Izzy grows up so much in this one, which was needed, and starts to think about what's best for her in relation to her family. There are some heartwarming moments and a few coming-of-age points where she realizes she has to leave her old life behind. I loved the addition of her tutor and how that story played out. I really hope there is at least one more so I can see how the story continues.

Audiobook version was excellent, no issues.

After reading and really enjoying Tokyo Ever After, I was so excited to get an advanced listener's copy of the audiobook for this story! The concept of these stories are so fun - Princess Diaries meets Japanese Royalty... how can you go wrong! I honestly can't decide which of the two I prefer better...which is rare for a second book, I often find. This book certainly held its own to book one. After book one, I was dying to see more about Izumi's life as she moved into the role of princess. In this book we have relationship and family dramas, love, major life decisions... If you read and loved Tokyo Ever After, this one is not to be missed! I love the Princess Diaries so much - and I would love to see this series made into a movie. It have a feeling it would rival Princess Diaries in all the best ways!

This is an incredible sequel! I loved it just as much as Tokyo Ever After. Learning more about Izumi’s parents and their relationship. Everything she does for them is so sweet.

I liked seeing Izumi also mend relationships with characters from the first book and really grow into herself. It took me back to the days when you’re starting college and not sure exactly what you want to do. I found to be super relatable. First choosing something you think you’re supposed to major in, and sorting out what you actually enjoy rather than what society is telling you.

So many valuable lessons throughout this series. I’m also a sucker for a classic love triangle! I highly recommend reading this one.

This was a great sequel and I will definitely be picking up a copy for my classroom library for SSR.

This book was so good! I loved seeing the new dynamics between Izumi and her family, especially her cousins. Also the love triangle caught me off guard but I was still here for it. Overall it was such a sweet and heartwarming sequel!

Sequels can often disappoint, especially when an author ties things up so well, as Jean did with Tokyo Ever After. However, Jean is a strong storyteller and readers will be thrilled to return to Tokyo to see where life has taken Izumi. A modern fairytale my students will love!

I absolutely loved Tokyo Ever After, so my expectations for the sequel were huge.

I really loved that we got to see Izumi’s character grow. The way she handled being a princess was just amazing, I could never.
The amount of obstacles she faces in this book is insane but it was never too much for the story.

One thing I didn’t love was the love triangle. Im not a fan of them in general and I would have preferred the new character had just been a friend.

Overall I loved this one so much and I hope this series never stops.

This sequel to Tokyo Ever After was one of my most looked forward to reads of this year, and it didn’t disappoint!
I loved the audiobook format, and thought the narrator was perfect. She nailed the differences between characters and made it a fun listen.
Tokyo Dreaming picks up with Izumi trying to navigate both her role as princess and post-high school decisions, balancing her wants with imperial expectations.
This storyline didn’t grab me as quickly as the first book did, but I really started to enjoy it more and more around the 30 percent mark and I was glad I stuck with it. I enjoyed the surprising turns it takes, and revisiting all of Izumi’s friends and her conniving(-ish?) cousins.
Overall, this audiobook was a fun and easy listen. I recommend it!

This was the first audiobook I’ve finished, and I really enjoyed listening to the narrator. She brings the characters’ personalities out, and I recommend the audio format for something relaxing to listen to while doing other things.

I loved Tokyo Ever After, and was looking forward to reading the sequel. While I enjoyed getting back to the setting and characters, I wasn’t pulled into the story as much as the first book. It’s a coming of age story that I would’ve been into more as a teenager. Some parts of the book were more predictable than I would have liked them to be. And I felt like there was more referencing to the first book than was necessary.

The scenery descriptions sound lovely and make me want to visit Japan. Izumi’s conversations with her friends are fun and remind me of my own friends. Overall, not bad for a sequel, if you enjoyed the characters in the first book and want to read more about what they’re up to afterwards. But the first book stands up well on its own too.

Happy to return to Princess Izumi’s new world. This was an adorable read about a girl who is trying to find her place in life while dealing with found family, new traditions, young love, new friends, and plan a future. You’ll definitely want to get this one! Adding this to the library shelf for sure.

I enjoyed this book. Not as much as the first, but it was still a good time. I was frustrated with Izumi's decisions throughout the book, but understood why she did what she did. That said, the decision she made at the end kind of ruined it for me. I didn't feel like the direction that it was going and I wish it hadn't. It almost felt like all of the things we dealt with in the book were pointless by the end.

That said, this is still fun for anyone who dreamed of being a princess and the audio was very well done.

If you like any stories about royalty, people who are royalty and don't know it, or romances between a "commoner" and a rich royal, then these two novels are for you! This duet is perfect for anyone who enjoyed the American Royals series, Princess Diaries, Ella Enchanted, If you love paper craft art, these covers are for you as well!

I will say that Tokyo Ever After seemed a little far reaching and you do have to suspend belief to enjoy it; however, Tokyo Dreaming required an even greater suspension. I did get swept away in the plot and the cheery romance of it all, but at times I had to pause the audiobook and shake my head at how wonderfully every thing can come together in a novel in such a predictable way. But just because a plot is predictable, doesn't mean it's not enjoyable and I did enjoy listening to this story.

Izumi and her mom have moved into the Imperial Palace in Japan after learning that Izumi's dad is none other than the crown prince of Japan. Her parents had a brief but intense love affair in college and then parted ways. But fate/Izumi brought them together again. And the whole island is buzzing about it and not all the buzz is positive. The press doesn't like the match and neither does the council. It's heart touching how much Izumi is willing to do for her mom and her dad to be together and likewise what her mom is doing to keep them all together as well. When a country's royalty is so ingrained with tradition, it's hard to mold into the shape that is needed. The struggle with that does seem very realistic and does the ending.

My favorite line was at the end of this one and it's going on my list of favorite ways to end a novel: "Life is a poem. And I'm going to write it."

I really loved Tokyo Ever After. I was a bit surprised ot find out it wasn't a standalone but a duology, so I was really curious to see where it was going! This time around Izumi is trying to 'fix' her image and prep for university. Although I did enjoy the book, and it was nice to see Izumi make new friends, the themes felt too similar to that of book 1. It felt like we starting at the beginning again, and it was kind of frustrating, especially when it came to her romantic relationships. i feel like it was the only way to create more drama for a second book.

Still enjoyed it, but I don't honestly know that book 2 was necessary.

I liked the audiobook narrator, but I will say her range wasn't very wide, and I've always struggled to enjoy her voicing hte men. Otherwise, very solid!

This book developed a lot of the relationships including Izumi and her cousins which was surprisingly my favorite character development. I felt like the love triangle was unnecessary but entertaining. This was an adorable extension to the first book.

I adored listening to Tokyo Ever After and was excited for a sequel to find out how Izumi was settling into royal life. At first I thought the story started off a little slow, but once Izumi goes to visit University of Tokyo with her parents and entourage of royal attendants, I was hooked. Tokyo Dreaming tells a great story of what is like to become a young adult, figuring out what is right for you and not necessarily making the choices that please those around you. Holding on to who you are at your core, while your life continues to change around you and events happen that can be out of your control. How your relationships with life long friends can change once you leave high school and how to still hold on to the good.
