Kelly Carlson has quite a bit of bad luck. Her husband died from eating shellfish (he was apparently unaware of his allergy) and she was tried for his murder. Her monster-in-law attempted to sue for wrongful death. Her monster-in-law next tried to gain custody of Kelly's son. Then her son's girlfriend turns up missing and her son is the prime suspect.

The story was fine. I felt there were some things that didn't sit right with me - like how Kelly was even tried for murder for her husband when he willingly went to a SEAFOOD restaurant and ordered seafood himself. The claims were that he knew he was allergic to seafood and his wife somehow snuck seafood onto his plate. ANYWAY, it's not necessarily a main part of the story, but I feel like it wasn't realistic whatsoever.

For the most part, the story was anti-climactic for me. It was over half the book before Dan's girlfriend disappears. I assume that's to give more backstory to Kelly and her crazy mother in law's issues, but it felt very dragged out. The book wasn't boring, but it just felt like I kept reaching for something bigger to happen only for it to fall a little flat. There was definitely more potential there.

The narrator was fantastic. She was very entertaining to listen to and a big reason for why I continued with the book. All in all, it was an okay story with great narration.

First of all, I’d like to thank Netgallley, the publisher and Dreamscape media for this ARC audiobook in return for my honest and unbiased review.
Sadly, I have to say that this was not one of my favorite books that I’ve listened to this year. This is supposedly a thriller/suspense novel but I guessed the outcome before I even finished listening to half of the book. Some of the storyline just seemed so far fetched and I found myself growing very annoyed with how Kelly was handling things with not much sense in her brain. I also couldn’t believe a lot of the injustices that were done throughout the book. They just seemed very unbelievable, but I can be wrong, especially for a small town environment.
Now, even though I said all of those things, the book was not terrible! It was still an entertaining read. It’s worth checking out. You may enjoy it more than I did!

This is another Cole Baxter offering that is being turned into audio. I think that's a great idea! Many of his books are available on Kindle Unlimited so it's nice to be able to add the audio and flip between the two.

This story has us following a wife whose husband passes suddenly from an unknown nut allergy. Her mother in law insists that she is responsible so she is jailed and kept away from her own son.

Proving her innocence, she's back with her son but very traumatized. She begins to worry that her son has some traits given to him by her mother in law, his grandma. A tragedy ensues and what happens next, no one saw coming.

One reason people can't see it coming is because this is quite outlandish. Again with this author and his writing style and prose. Misuse of words but then strangely strict grammar. He needs a great editor to make these books sparkle.

They're definitely interesting stories worth your time and I think this author is only improving with every book.

The author's lack of knowledge of the legal system/police procedure ruined this story. So many aspects of the plot are implausible and impossible. The main character, Kelly, is dumb and whiny. Mona is a cartoon villian in the extreme. I also don't think the author took much time learning about NPD and sociopathy; small amounts of research can lead to better character development. This was an easy and fast read but the story was just "so so bad." A shame, as there was potential.

This was a fast-paced listen that I was able to knock out in a day.

When a woman is accused of poisoning her husband, and subsequently charged with his murder, she must fight for innocence in a town that has been under the control of her mother-in-law’s scare tactics and influence.

To make matters worse, her teenage son, whom battles a personality disorder, faces his own murder trial for his missing girlfriend, even though no body was found and no evidence was actually obtained.

With everyone against them except for their faithful and diligent lawyer, this mother-son duo must find a way to bring the truth to light, despite every possible obstacle being thrown their way.

I really liked the legal premise that this story was based upon, because it highlights the potential for corruption and the influence that people with money can have if they try hard enough. Furthermore, it brings wrongful convictions to the conversation which seems to be a very timely subject in our world today.

I did think some of the story was overly exaggerated and I was able to predict the twist early on, but the character development and the plot kept me eagerly listening through the end.

“What She Witnessed” is the ultimate evil mother-in-law story! It had some plot holes, but was fast paced and still kept me hooked. If you like dramatic thrillers, this book is worth checking out.

Thank you @netgalley and @dreamscape_media for allowing me to listen to this audiobook ahead of publication in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was a pretty good read over all, some good twists and suspenseful moments. Didn't always enjoy the characters at times but other than that I enjoyed this!

Name of Book: Watch she Witnessed
Author: Cole Baxter
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Publisher: Dreamscape
Pub Date: May 3, 2022
My Rating: ⭐⭐.5 Stars!

Story starts with Kelly and Dave going out for a much needed date night. Only the unthinkable happened Dave has a serious allergy attack. He died and Kelly is accused of poisoning him.
Kelly is charged and while waiting for trail, Dave’s mother Mona takes care of her teenage grandson and is now demanding custody. The autopsy proves that Dave’s died from an undiagnosed allergy that neither Kelly nor Dan knew about. Kelly is found innocent and Dan is return home.
However, Mona is a sociopath and with her wealth she continues to cause Kelly problems.
Three years later Kelly fears that her son Dan has inherited not the family food allergies but his grandmother’s mental issues.

Yikes I had a hard time with these unlikeable characters.
Mona is an evil total mess plus!
Kelly is so annoying with her whiny nasty language.
And
Then there is Dan!! Hmm I really wasn’t sure about him. He was accused of kidnapping and perhaps murdering his girlfriend. He is the one who kept me reading; found him more likeable than his mom and grandmother!!!

I was drawn to this story as I too have a serious food allergy.
I hung in there ~ turned out okay but it was not the great read I was hoping would develop.

I love a good thriller with some twist and turns and unexpected plots ahead. I really feel like this book offered that to me. Kelly is accused of her husbands death and is put on trial while her son, Dan is living with her estranged mother-in-law, Mona. Kelly's life has fallen apart because her husband is gone, they owned a business together and she has no income coming in to support her and her son. All of a sudden their world is thrown into a whirlwind with her son becoming accused of murder of his girlfriend and Kelly found fighting for their lives all over again.

I loved this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone that loves a good thriller.

What’s worse than your husband dying unexpectedly? Being blamed for his murder by your terrible mother and jailed for poisoning the man you married before tox reports reveal he died from an allergic reaction to nuts. Kelly Carlsen is now spending all her time with her son, Dan, and not just because of the terrible situation that cost him his father and almost also cost him his mother. Dan has inherited more than just his looks from his father’s side of the family, he’s inherited his grandmother’s sociopathy. When Dan’s girlfriend disappears during a heavy bout of drinking, he claims not to remember what happened, but he fears he’s killed her. Kelly is determined to protect her son, no matter what the cost, but she hasn’t bargained on her mother-in-laws machinations and desire to bring Kelly down, once and for all. A surprise ending makes this book the perfect read (or listen)

What She Witnessed by Cole Baxter is my favorite of the author's books that I've read/listened to. The book kept me guessing and not knowing what to expect. The characters were well done, and I loved how Kelley's "Mom" instinct went into protective mode. Kudos to the author for not having me figure it out. Chelsea Stephens performed the book flawlessly. She brought the characters to life and I could hear who was speaking. I could envision so many details. Thank you #NetGalley and #Dreamscape Media for allowing me to listen to this pre-release audiobook. The twist at the end was great!
