Oh Ms Jenkins, you have created a group of outwardly loving friends gathering for a hen do for hapless Holly but of course each woman has one or more secrets they are keeping from each other. These are major secrets, the kind that can and may possibly destroy some of the women around them. Thoroughly readable and easily finished over a weekend, we read with our mouths open as a death happens in the first few pages and we all need to discover who and why. I needed a mental whiteboard to keep up with everyone and their connections which added to my enjoyment of a solid five star read.
Holly has spent decades mourning the loss of her childhood sweetheart and the father of her child. As she prepares to finally move on and marry Aaron, her closest friends throw her a bachelorette weekend away to celebrate. The weekend ends in a tragedy and everyone has something to hide..
This was very fast paced and a quick read. Lots of twists and turns and I definitely didn’t see the ending coming! This was a true psychological thriller where nothing was as it seemed to be.
This would have been a five star read for me if not for a few things. This story is told from the point of view of three different characters who are very similar. This was confusing at times and there were a few occasions where I had to flip back to check who was narrating. I also felt that the story may have benefited from being slightly longer to allow for more character development as most of the characters did feel fairly one dimensional.
All in all, this was a super quick and suspenseful read that was fun to read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced reading copy!
read this in one day, could not put it own, lots of twists and turns, enjoyed the book very much, will look for more books from this author
I wasn’t expecting this book to be so good. I thought it would be pretty much standard but it is so so much more. Thrilling. Believable. Couldn’t put it down. Absolutely great!
I went into this expecting it to be like a hundred books I'd read before however, I was absolutely hooked from the very 1st chapter. This starts off with a bang as keeps you enthralled the whole way though. It was a complete roller coaster and I loved every second. I devoured it in a day, I just couldn't put jt down. I wish all thrillers were this engaging and well written! You might think this book is just yet again, another reunion/who dun it type but this is definitely one of the best I've come across from that genre
I was gripped right from the very start, it was twisty and unpredictable and kept me on the edge pf my seat, wondering what would happen next. I loved it.
I so love this author s books and you know that you wont be disappointed as normal It pulls you in from the first page. Holly is getting married to Aaron. but the ghost s from the past still haunt her she lost her first love Joseph they had a son together Caleb .but Joseph was killed in a hit and run. her best friends who are bridesmaid s are all going to a lovely house in the countryside for Holly's hen party organised buy Martha and a work colleague Zoe is coming to and a friend who she meet and formed a close relationship with at the bereavement meetings but all her friends all have secrets and thing get out of control its very twisty and very addictive so recommend
Oh my, the drama! I requested this book because the concept sounded intriguing. I am also getting married so a thriller about bridesmaids sounded perfect. I did not expect to be sucked into this book before I even finished the first chapter! This is one crazy ride. Let’s just hope my bridesmaids aren’t secretly like this 🫣
The book opens up with a murder but we don’t know who the victim or the killer is…yet! Instantly you are thrown into the drama of a weekend get away for Holly’s hen do. Her bridesmaids all seem to be hiding secrets. This book is a real page turner, and you’ll have a hard time putting it down. We do go back and forth in time through the plot. This was done well, and keeps the story interesting. You will constantly be trying to piece together the mystery.
What I loved:
-We get three different POVs between: Holly, Claire, and Suzanne.
- Right off the bat you are thrown into the drama of these “friendships”
- The rivalries and secrets. I kept coming up with so many different theories.
This was an excellent thriller, and I loved the pacing. The whole concept was interesting and twisty. Do we really know who are friends actually are? This book kept me guessing and on my toes the whole time. I cannot wait to read more from this author in the future! 4 stars out if 5.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a honest review!
Hen weekend filled with scandal and crime. I loved this from the beginning and read it in one sitting. Usually, 3 or more character views start to confuse me but in this plot you quickly learn who’s personality is who’s and can follow along. It wasn’t too detailed where the story got lost, it flowed and was truly a great mystery/thriller. I have been craving one with a ladies group protagonist since I read The Hunting Wives.
A juicy novel of “Who done it” with secrets all the women have that are bursting at the seam. What started out as such a promising, fun filled weekend for Holly’s hen weekend before her marriage to Aaron soon becomes a dangerous, toxic and trapped environment. Are your best friends some from your childhood really your friends? A delicious guilty pleasure from beginning to end. Great job Victoria Jenkins! Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre (you always find great talent!) for this ARC!
This is the best psychological thriller I've read in a really long time! The twists and turns kept coming, and I did not suspect any of them. I liked that the story was a slow build, but never boring. It was also really believable, which I appreciated. Who among us hasn't been on a bachelorette party that ended in disaster and ruined friendships?! Thank you for the opportunity to read this book early. Loved it!
I have been a fan of Victoria Jenkins for a few years now so was very excited to hear about her newest release.
As always, Jenkins' characters are very believable and multi-dimensional. She doesn't subscribe to stereotypes within her books and you feel like the characters in this book are recognisable women that are realistic.
The book centres around a group of friends on a hen weekend for Holly. Having lost the father of her son almost twenty years ago, this wedding is an opportunity for her to find happiness with her new fiance and surround herself with close friends who have played a pivotal role in her life. However she doesn't know that these women also hold secrets that they have hidden from Holly for far too long. As a storm isolated them in the hen weekend cottage and old rivalries resurface, how long can their secrets stay hidden?
First of all, I found the dynamics between characters very interesting in this book. The friendship group revolve around the bride Holly. Claire and Martha especially seem to have a very prickly relationship even from the outset. With wealth and confidence, Martha has taken over the hen weekend organisation leaving Claire, who is facing bankruptcy due to her husband's gambling addition, already feeling wrong-footed. Holly's other friend Toni arrives with her obnoxious daughter Georgia, a nineteen year old with a serious attitude problem and her own rivalries to fave for the weekend. Along with these women, Holly's work colleague Zoe also joins them and Suzanne, a friendship developed by their shared grief and difficulties in bereavement. As you'd expect on a hen weekend, there is a mix of personalities and relationships but this unfortunately this group are going to prove more chaotic than could ever be imagined.
Every single person on this hen weekend has a significant secret to hide and many are also looking for the chance for revenge. My only niggle about the narrative would be that the secrets are dealt one after the other and you can start to feel overwhelmed by the barrage of these in short succession. You have to keep reminding yourself about these secrets and when they begin to wind and link across characters it can take a moment to gather your thoughts. Having said that, this was also a source of excitement in the book. There were genuine moments that pleasantly astonished me. I'd question the believability of one of the characters not recognising another but then suspending that disbelief meant that I was able to enjoy the other clever twists the booked offered.
Another fun and engaging book by one of my favourite authors - very happy to recommend!
I reviewed an advanced review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thank you to Bookouture and Victoria Jenkins for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Unfortunately, I just didn’t care for this one too much.
I was frustrated that the novel took so long to get going, most of the characters were one-dimensional so I kept getting them confused, and I did not enjoy the twists or find them terribly surprising.
I really liked Claire and Martha’s characters and felt they were well-written, and I enjoyed the cover art.
I think some readers may enjoy the hen weekend type plot, but I think I’ve seen it too many times to be struck.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
It’s not only addictive and gripping, literally I could not put down this book! I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed this book. Mind blowing, twisty ending and suspenseful.
The title of this book suggested that it’s about a group of ladies and…gossips? (haha)
Holly, the bride-to-be, and her close friends having a stayover weekend hen party (aka Bachelorette party). Everyone is expecting having a good and carefree weekend in the beautiful house - drinking, talking and laughing. Yet, the party turns out to be really “unforgettable”…when you found a body in the pool the next morning…one of them is the murderer. Sure? Your close friend?
I always read with excitement when the content related to friendship betrayal, secrets, holding grief, jealousy - probably just reflect our lives but we decline to confess these evil immoral human behaviors.
The Bridesmaids begins with a flashback, it gives the story more depth. It’s structured with Holly and her bridesmaids perspective in each chapter to build up the tension and changes of emotion. The story becomes packed and page-turning in the second half of the book. I love this pace!
I think it makes perfect sense that we all have secrets, those you shared with your loved ones aren’t secrets. Secret is only known to yourself. (Now tell me your secrets, I promise I will not tell the others….)
I truly recommend this book to those who love suspenseful, gripping, twisty and mind-blowing story!
This book had so much drama. I normally love when we have a group of people coming together for something. There is always secrets and drama. I thought the characters in this were okay. I didn't see much of a difference between them. If I didn't read the name at the top of the chapter I don't know if I could have told you what persons chapter it was. With all that being said, I still enjoyed the writing of this book. I think for me I just wanted a little more from it. It wasn't a bad book just a bit predictable to me.
One hen party six bridesmaids that goes terrible wrong. All these woman are lying and afraid that their secret will be revealed. Seriously these are all awful people and would be hard pressed to pick out who is the worst among them. One fast paced read and so many many lies that make it a great read. One dead body at the end. Fake friends, lies and so many cover ups....
The Bridesmaids is an appropriately named thriller about a group of six women celebrating bride-to-be, Holly. Gathered together at a secluded cottage, the girls all hope to relax and reconnect with each other with a weekend away from their busy lives. If you think that just because the bridal party is made up of grown women in their late thirties you're in for a mellow hen-do... think again! All of these women are keeping massive secrets, and like fine wine secrets get better (or at least more entertaining) with age!
Holly, Claire, Martha, and Toni have been friends for over twenty years and it would appear they’ve been lying to each other for just as long. Holly’s friends Suzanne and Zoe may be new to the group, but they can definitely hold their own with these women. When one of the party guests turns up dead, everyone’s a suspect and it isn’t hard to see why.
I really enjoyed this book! The Bridesmaids is a relatively quick read that I struggled to put down. I was afraid some of the twists would be predictable but I was pleasantly surprised to discover my guesses were wrong every time! If you’re craving a fast-paced thriller filled with juicy secrets and badly-behaved bridesmaids, you’re in for a real treat with this book!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Victoria Jenkins for allowing me to be an early reader
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an early copy of The Bridesmaids. Wow soooo many POV’s that it made for confused reading. This book was about a bunch of liars and characters that have no morals all the way to the end. Not one of these women had a good bone in them, sad that they pretended to be friends. I’m thankful my friends are not anything like Hollys friends.
The Bridesmaids is an exciting thriller, filled with plenty of drama, about a bachelorette weekend that goes horribly wrong when too much is drunk, secrets are revealed, and someone is murdered. The story is told through three POVs and alternates between the "now" and "during the weekend." Even though the story was pretty unrealistic, I still enjoyed it. Wanting to find out each bridesmaid's secret kept me turning the pages. It was fast-paced and entertaining. I'll definitely recommend The Bridesmaids; it especially makes for a great beach read or vacation book.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the copy of The Bridemaids. I found the multiple timelines distracting and they didn’t really add that much to the story. The ending was kind of an anticlimax to me maybe because of the many stories and the long build up. This would be a great beach read! It’s engaging and a fast read and even though the characters are not likable they were interesting. It was kind of hard to keep everyone and their stories straight at first, but I eventually caught up. If you’re looking for an easy read that isn’t really deep, this is the book for you.
3.5 stars rounde dup to 4.
