Horrible nonsense. He must have been high when writing this. It's drivel. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
This ambitious and energetic collection covers a lot of ground. The key themes that I can identify are the power of music, empowerment of self, brokenness and healing, mental health struggles, and ultimately, the incredible power of the human spirit. It's also visually stunning with full color on every page.
This poet has an incredible ability to play with words, sounds, imagery, and rhythm. These are poems to experience, not just read flat on the page. Sometimes, the sounds and cadence alone are enough to power you along through the verses. It seems that this poet has a musical background of his own as he knows exactly how to create a driving beat in each and every poem.
Other poems pay homage to beloved musical artists such as The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Bach. There are literary allusions and pop culture references aplenty. It's fun to see what you'll recognize and the new ways words and ideas come together to create completely unique wordscapes.
Prairie, My Dairy, You Ate ALL the Cherries - the wordplay in this one was such a delight. It stood out to me.
The musical poems spoke strongest to me and where I'm at in my life right now. The Beatles poems are excellent- among them "Dear Beatles" was probably my favorite as it really painted a clear picture. The scene unfolds around you like a movie as you read and it's very relatable.
"33 or 45, My Inner Core Now Feels Alive" is a lovely ode to the power, importance, and transformative power of music. This is a poem every music lover can relate to.
Finally, the collection concludes with, what I think, is the most powerful poem of all. "Scream Without Sound, Cry Without Tears, Bleed With ALL Scars to Remember the Years" This poem covers a lot of ground, but it overwhelmingly imparts the feeling of hope. The author clearly made it through a very difficult journey and despite all this, the last poem gives the reader assurance that the struggle does not define either the poet or the reader.
Keep your records spinning everyone, and check out this collection of poetry.
I give this collection 4 stars because I feel like this poet is going to come back with even more and it will only get better and impress me even more than this collection. A very strong debut.
