I really wanted to like this book. Scotsman and a library what more could you want? Well apparently a bit more than we get. I’m sure many will enjoy it but it was a little too light for me? That’s not really the right word but I can’t put my finger on exactly why I didn’t like it but something was off. A part of it is def my cynical 32 year old single self being annoyed that Paige is having a crisis about turning 30.
I'm sure that there are people out there that are going to love this. I just hate to be one of ones that don't. I think if you're new to romance this is a good introduction to the genre. However, as someone who reads a lot of romance, I don't think this is was for me.
My biggest issues despite the pacing and the plot, is that our main character is very one-dimensional and very very white. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but the fact that this doesn't seemed to be rooted in any sort of reality close to ours is what really made this a poor reading expereince. Also the phonetical spelling of how our Scotsman was talking did get tiring.
I'm sure that the next offering from Alana Oxford will be great, and I think I'll wait for that one.
I was given an ARC of "Scotsman in the Stacks" via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
This closed-door and clean romance is cute, but I definitely found it to be on the long side. There were scenes I found that were either drawn out or were completely unnecessary for moving the plot forward. I did enjoy the characters, though the MFC's growth was a bit sharp at points. This book would be great for Michiganites or those with a fond attachment to Michigan (as there are several, very detailed passages about specific landmarks) - not being either of those type of people, I found these scenes to be too detailed and drawn out.
This book was a fun treat! I loved it! It was a good reset after I read a heavier book. It kept me flipping pages well past my bedtime!!
This book centers on a librarian, Paige, who is making changes in her life. She finally realizes what she wants in life and breaks up with her boyfriend and also looking for a promotion. She takes on more responsibilities and is a hard worker. Paige meets a resident artist, James, in the “stacks” and it’s the beginning of something special. This was a cute slow burn romance.
you had me at Scotsman and stacks. Give me a man with an Scottish accent and I am there. give me a book/library and I am there for it too. Oh yeah. I loved it all. I wanted more and more. I just reviewed Scotsman in the Stacks by Alana Oxford. #ScotsmanintheStacks #NetGalley
A Scotsman in the Stacks was a cute, fun read. I enjoyed the main characters, the library aspect, and the slow burn. I also loved the setting of this book and thought it perfect for a cozy romance.
REVIEW: I´ve really enjoyed knowing a little more about the work of the librarians, the interactions with the people and the activities they can arrange. Paige is a very sweet, kind-hearted character, maybe she worries too much, but it was very nice to get to know her, and see the relathionship with her friends and for sure, with the handsome Scotthis James. I want to know more of Scotland, and to hear the accent! Yes, maybe I won´t understand a word, but what a treat!
It was a nice reading, very lovely.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and 8N Publishing for the advance copy of Scotsman in the Stacks by Alana Oxford.
Scotsman in the stacks is a sweet romance especially for those that love books.
Paige wants two things: to land a full-time librarian job and find the man of her dreams. On the cusp of thirty, she finds herself suddenly single and working part-time in a Michigan library. A handsome patron with a delicious accent appears at the reference desk, inadvertently sparking an idea that might help her land the promotion she so desperately needs. But that's not the only thing he sparks.
James is in town from Glasgow, Scotland, on a summer artist residency. Luckily, the trip got him away from the pressure he feels to take over his uncle's river tour business. He only wanted to clear his head and make his art in peace, but he wasn't counting on finding an attractive librarian to fill his days.
With only eight weeks before James goes home to Scotland, Paige knows she should protect her heart. After all, she already wasted years with her commitmentphobe ex. But the more she gets to know James, the less she can stick to her plan to just be friends. Is she just wasting her time again, or can they bridge the ocean between them to find a happily ever after of their own?
Scotsman in the Stacks is told in one point of view through Paige. Paige definitely knew what she wanted, and she wanted commitment especially after her ex had not committed after six years. When James came to town, she tried to stay away but was drawn to him. I enjoyed Paige’s character and saw a lot of growth throughout the book. I think had things not worked out with James she would have been okay too.
I loved James’ character (but sometimes reading his dialect was frustrating it would probably translate better through audio book). The other supporting characters kind of felt like filler. I wish should have interacted differently with the library patrons and I wish that her friendship seemed less superficial.
I really enjoyed learning about upper Michigan and the trip and felt transported there.
Overall, this book was short and sweet. There were only behind closed doors romance minus kissing and I would have liked to feel more chemistry. But the book was cute, and I will read more from the author.
Have you read Scotsman in the Stacks? The book will be published June 14th.
This book started slow for me but finally picked up about 1/2 way. The second half was better and actually enjoyed it . I am glad I didn’t give up on it.
The premise of this book was sweet and the characters were likable, but the pacing was slow and I lost interest. I couldn't really feel the chemistry other than being told it was there.
I am a sucker for anything about books, librarians, love of books, love of librarians especially when set in the UK and this tale delivered 100%. A great meet cute - characters who are totally engaging. Just an all around wonderful read.
An adorable, cute, funny romance that I read in one whole sitting! I’m a sucker for books about book lovers so what’s better than read about a librarian and a book loving Scotsman maybe falling in love! The library meet cute was soooo funny and just perfect for these main characters! If you love a strong Scottish accent, friends-to-lovers, and falling fast and hard you’ll love this adorable romance! 4,5 stars rounded up!
Very cute book featuring a Midwestern librarian and a Scotsman! The pacing of this book is a bit off, but the characters are likable. It's an easy book to read with no surprises. Thanks to NetGalley for the free copy!

I have to grab this one up as a library science major, I am now in love with all main characters that are librarians. Paige and James have great chemistry throughout the story, with a super fun meet cute. I enjoyed Kayla a ton as Paige's best friend. I think this one is a great summer vacation pick up and read book. It is short and sweet, low angst, and fun to read.
Incredibly low stakes romance, although points for decent librarian rep. Not much growth, pretty much zero sexy time, and things that should have been a much bigger deal (helloooo, giving up her lease without somewhere else to go??? in this market???) were totally NBD. It all felt rushed and too easy, and the writing was...lackluster.
The burb about a Scotsman and a librarian immediately caught my attention. Paige is a librarian trying to move past a long term relationship that was stagnant. James is a Scotsman visiting Michigan for eight weeks on a art scholarship. Paige feels like she's behind in her life. She's (inexplicably) able to afford her lifestyle working part time as a librarian but feels like she should long ago have been married with children at the ripe old age of 29. James comes into the library to check out some books while he is in town and is instantly drawn to Paige. Paige is really torn because she wants a long term relationship and James will only be around for 8 weeks. They start out as friends and quickly can't deny their attraction to each other. The only conflicts that take place in the book was finding a new apartment and trying to get a full time job.
I found Paige to be kind of annoying. Her boyfriend of six years asks her to move in together and she immediately breaks up with him because she doesn't think he's serious about spending their lives together. Don't get me wrong, they probably weren't meant to be but their break up was just dumb. James and Paige had a whole lot of instalove which was not totally for me, There really wasn't anything wrong with this book it was just a bit of a bore. I rolled my eyes when James revealed his art at the exhibition. It was fine as a whole. Not something that I would pick up again. I like spice in my romance books and it was non existent. I did really enjoy all of the Michigan touristy spots mentioned. Being a Midwesterner myself, I could picture the Superman ice cream and the UP,
Thank you to NetGalley and 8N publishing for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book was adorned. The characters were sweet and absolutely lovable. It’s definitely a feel good book but it was bit slow in my opinion. I felt like the interactions were a bit repetitive and I was expecting more tension between the characters. The beginning of the book was especially slow. I will admit that a book about book lovers will always play well for me but I felt like Paige had very little personality outside of her job and the plot point about her previous boyfriend that was set up at the beginning and the book was too quickly abandoned.
This was a lovely little meet cute romance! The book does an excellent job of drawing you into the setting. The locations and atmosphere are very well set up, and it is easy to visualize the world of the novel. In terms of plot, there wasn’t a very strong tension or conflict of whether the couple will end up together, which I usually prefer, but it was a very sweet read and would be perfect for readers who like a gentler, sweet love story without too much will they or won’t they angst.
I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I think for the right person, this book could really click. For me it was just boring. I am not much for slow moving stories and this one really sort of moseys.
