Average read for me.

This was a cute story...but just not for me. I felt like the banter was kind of generic and kind of cliche. It did have a cute plot line but just the overall vibe wasn’t doing it for me.
The book started out strong but at about 30% I started to get bored. I also began noticing discrepancies in the way James spoke. At first it was very very Scottish and then all of a sudden it wasn’t and he was no longer using Scottish words and then he would and then he wouldn’t and it was throwing me.
The cover is super cute though and immediately sold me and again it did have a strong start but it just didn’t hold up through the rest of the book. More time spent into this novel and lots of editing would’ve made it a lot better!
As a librarian in Michigan, I loved this book! I thought it was so much fun to recognize some cities, parks and locations in Michigan. I more than understand trying to find a full time job as a librarian. As a reader, I totally felt for Paige. She had just gotten out of a long term relationship with someone who did not want to commit, as she is watching her friend enjoying her marriage and her upcoming baby. I was really rooting for her. James is from Glasgow, Scotland for a 8 week artist in residence opportunity. They both have some things to work out in their lives and I loved the time they spent getting to know each other. Turns out that James is a reader…how can you NOT love him??? This is a sweet, contemporary, slow burn romance. The conflict is not over the top and it makes for a perfect weekend getaway read. Especially if you are road tripping through Michigan. I’m also really loving the cover. Overall this was an enjoyable read and I definitely recommend it when you are in the mood for a charming, funny and romantic read.
This is your typical sweet romance book with a guy who's almost too good to be true (but then again, this is fiction), a heroine who seems to have inhaled all the goodness in the world at birth, a pregnant best friend whose delivery was also included in the book, and just pure innocent vibes with no smudge of smut or whatsoever. I am not one to dote on the "instalove" trope but as the author had said, this story is inspired by a true love story which she witnessed in real life. Indeed, I enjoyed this story despite it not being my favorite romance trope and I had my share of giggles and squirms.
I appreciate the author's efforts in including the Scottish accent in the text, maybe to give us the full experience of a Scottish character. Though others have found it annoying and unnecessary, I found it rather cute and it made my whole reading experience different from what I used to. The only thing I didn't like in this book was Dylan and that creep Norm and I'm so happy that Paige finally stood up for herself and put an end to Norm's uncomfortable interaction with her.
All in all it was a cute book and if you're looking for some feel-good romance, you better grab this one.
This one missed the mark for me. I was bored and DNF'd at 40%. I was hoping this would be great, but I just couldn't get into it.
This was a sweet, very low stakes romance. The writing was fine….good enough to get into the book, but it feels like not a whole lot happens. There are plenty of people who would enjoy the vibe of this story, even if it wasn’t my favorite.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me access to this eARC for my honest opinion!
I didn't finish this book because the writing of the Scottish accent was "offing" me.
I just really couldn't get into it.
The story was kind of bland -ish, the main character wasn't being a main character.
It just wasn't it
I DNF'd this book, It was too slow-paced and could not keep me interested.
I loved the concept and the artwork was great it was just not a fit for me at the time.
This was a super sweet little book!
We start off with Paige, who is a librarian and in a long term relationship that is going nowhere. After they split up, she thinks that she is going to be forever single until James walks into her library.
Even though he is only meant to be in town for the summer, she decides to live in the moment and is swept into a summer romance.
This was a light, easy read that was very cutesy. They were obviously besotted with each other and communicated openly. One of the issues I had with the book was how James’ accent was written. I understand that it is meant to get across how he speaks and pronounces words, but it would immediately take me out of the story to decipher it. I also don’t think there was really any conflict in the book to make me invested in it. The characters were also okay, but I felt little connection and didn’t think there was much development.
If you’re looking for a sticky sweet, closed-door romance though, check this one out!
Thank-you NetGalley and publisher for the chance to review this ARC.
Scotsman in the Stacks was a really cute. I really liked the premise here!
I mean librarian who falls for a visiting Scottish man. Pretty interesting for sure!
It was an easy read and I enjoyed it!
After breaking off along term relationship Paige is feeling down until a handsome.scotsman comes into her library.
I feel like it his should be a young adult book not an adult.book.
There's no spice in this book
Scotsman in the Stacks was a really cute rom-com about a librarian who falls for a visiting Scottish man. This book was very lighthearted and is the perfect easy summer read. The characters are written really well and you will be rooting for their love the whole time!
I had a hard time getting into this one. I really wanted to like the characters but they felt a bit flat. I do like the friends to lovers trope.
Such a sweet, true friends to lovers, feel-good novel.
I adored Paige, a sweetheart librarian who just came out of a long distance relationship that was just absolutely going nowhere. Scott, her friend for now *smirks* is a Scottish artists that is in Michigan for the summer.
I love a good enemies to lovers, but books like these make me realize I love friends to lovers just as equally. With that being said, there were some occasions where I didn’t enjoy Paige’s character that much, but again, other chapters I loved her. Its not necessarily gripping or deep, but a quick no-brainer read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishing team!
Unfortunately, I found that I couldn't really connect with the story or characters. It felt like they were one-dimensional to the point where I had a hard time caring to follow through.
The writing style wasn't much for me.
Ugh!! Paige is the most Karen-esque librarian and I do not want to be associated with her--even if it’s only in a fictional way. The writing in this book just isn’t very good either. It’s one-dimensional and flat--and also super corny. I guess if someone is looking for a very bland, closed door romance they might like this but it’s a definite "immediately no" for me.
Ok so this was super cute but nothing really new or exciting to write home about. I think is going to be one of those stories that you read it, you enjoy it, then you go on and and read other things and kind of forget about it.
When I say that I had to SKIM through most of this book I am serious. This book was so incredibly boring to me, which was awful because I loved the premise so much. There was just no chemistry between the main characters what so ever and there was no cute banter, or overwhelming spice to really keep the story going for me.
Super cute rom-com about books, libraries, and what it means to go after what you want even when it doesn't make sense.
