I read this at a time when I just wanted to believe in love again, and I felt like I got that. Even though it's not identical, I feel like every time I read a story where the girl works in a library or a bookstore it has You've Got Mail vibes which is honestly perfect. I loved the whole concept of wanting to meet Mr. Right and just the way the relationship developed between Paige and James was really beautiful. It felt almost like Friends to Lovers, even though they weren't really friends at the start.
This is definitely one of those feel-good kinds of stories, that I would recommend to folks who like me have been struggling with the idea of finding the right person and wanting to find love again.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ebook ARC.
Another book about books, kind of! This one has a librarian as the MC, and it’s delightful. Paige meets someone very early on in the book, right after breaking up with a long term boyfriend, and everything goes swimmingly.
This isn’t a romance with a lot of drama or miscommunication. Both characters are very honest and open about their feelings. There are some barriers standing in their way, but overall it’s a low-stress, happy read. I really liked it!
Paige is a 29 year old part time librarian working up the ranks to a full time job, learning how to be herself and recognizing her self worth after a break up of a 6 year long relationship. She is not the one for short flings and dating apps.
A handsome Scotsman James ends up arriving in town for his art residency and visits her library.
There is an immediate attraction between them right at the library desk. But obviously, James is off limit for Paige considering he’s only there for the summer, but will they be able to stay just friends?
What sounded like just a fun romance novel was fun but was also so much more. While Paige is navigating trying to become a lead librarian and heartbreak at the same time she meets James an artist-in-residence from Scotland. Jumping for a big career move and trying to navigate a fling as a hopeless romantic (without getting attached) was something she never thought would happen at the start of her summer. All while James is hoping this residency issn't his last hurrah and hoping this might be the opportunity to prove to his family that his art is his work.
This book made me laugh and it made me think of the expectations we set for ourselves as well as those set for our families in both our love lives and our careers. This romance was thoughtful, fun and a quick read.
I could see somebody else loving this book; however, I had difficulty connecting with the plot and characters. I did enjoy the setting, and the cover art is beautiful.
This was a cutesy, quick read. I loved the librarian aspect because I always thought it would be fascinating to work in a library and be surrounded by books all day. I enjoyed the male main character, but his Scottish accent in writing got to be a little too much at times. This is a tame romance book for those looking for a cute love story without too much graphic details.
Yes--a librarian finding romance with a Scottish guy made this book so perfect. Paige the librarian was so relatable and reminded me of myself in so many ways. I truly wanted a little more spicy scenes but all in all, I truly enjoyed the drama and journey of being yourself and finding your way in the world.
Well done. I read it all in one sitting and I loved Alana's writing style. Thank you Netgalley for my advanced readers copy!
Super cute and sweet. There’s so much about the setting and characters that I liked. Paige being a librarian (which is my dream job) and the Ann Arbor/MI setting and road trip is something I could easily picture since I’ve taken a few of those road trips myself as a Detroit-metro local.
Even Paige's full name (Paige Marie) was a pleasant surprise - being one of the names that we'd considered naming our daughter - I've loved that name for a long time!
Overall, really enjoyable breath of fresh air. Light and easy to read. A nice summer treat!
Paige is a single librarian who is looking for Mr. Right. When she meets James, a Scottish man, It seems like her wishes are answered, but he is only in town for the summer.
The book had everything to be a cute, rom-com, bubblegum love story. Yet, it somehow missed the premise and it ended up being quite vanilla and boring. The road trip scenes just felt like Michigan endorsement, and could have focused more on cute moments between the characters.
The biggest obstacle the main characters had to endure was missing each other’s phone calls. They had a very cute relationship with swoon-worthy moments, but they felt a little too perfect and had zero banter.
If you like insta-love this book might be for you, it just wasn’t for me.
💓 Thank you @netgalley and 8N publishing for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Scotsman in the Stacks is the first book that I have read by Alana Oxford and it won’t be the last. It is a sweet romance that takes place in a library between an artist from Scotland and a part-time librarian. Unfortunately this match seems destined to end in heartbreak for one or both from the start, what with living in different countries separated by an ocean and all, but will it beat the odds and end up being a match made in heaven after all. Read Scotsman in the Stacks by Alana Oxford to find out.
Scotsman in the Stacks is a sweet and fast romance story fit for any book and romance lover out there. I thoroughly enjoyed reading James and Paige’s romantic story and can’t wait to read another by Alana Oxford.
Scotsman in the Stacks by Alana Oxford is about Paige whose looking for a husband. She ends up meeting a Scotsman but he doesn't plan on staying in the city long. However, Paige can’t deny her attraction. This book was sweet and at times funny. This was adorable and I definitely recommend it.
After some problems with the file, I just decided to read this on my phone instead. Thank you, NetGalley, for the copy of this book!
I got hooked in the first chapters and it appealed on me in some ways but I really feel that there are some excitement missing to jive in the story. Maybe a little struggle of characters? However, I did not regret pushing through too read this book. 3 stars, would recommend for light readers.
Scotsman in the stacks is about Paige whose looking for a husband.
She ends up meeting a Scotsman but he isn’t going to stay long. But she can’t deny her attraction. This book was sweet and good. This was adorable and I totally recommend it !
The premise of this story had lots of promise but this book just fell flat for me. The Scottish quips were a little hard to follow and the characters were just kind of boring.
I rate this book 3.5/5.
Scotsman in the Stacks had everything to make a great romance story. I like the author's writing style, I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. It had a great flow and and easy read.
What was missing for me was the conflict. Everything goes perfectly throughout the whole book. The author writes what is going to happen in the story and it does happen, but it was quickly resolved. I wish there had been more to it somehow.
Overall I did enjoy this story and I would more from the author. This is a good summer read to add to your TBR.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this story.
I used to live pretty close to Ann Arbor and regularly vacation in Michigan, in addition to being a librarian, so I was quite excited to live vicariously through this book but it was a bit disappointing. The promised Michigan road trip is short and takes way too long to get to, I didn’t find the main characters interesting or compelling (who shops at Kroger when Meijer is right there?!). I didn’t hate the book, but I didn’t love it either. It would be good for people who like their romances on the weak side of PG-13. 2.5 rounded up to 3.
I thought this book was cute, but probably only appealing to me because of my background with the library. I am not sure it will appeal to typical readers.
Thank you to the author, 8N Publishing and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this - all the signs were there: library, Scotsman, Michigan - and it had a lot of potential, but unfortunately most of that was unrealized. I did like the way the author developed the story to showcase how life can take a turn and it's possible to go a different path than the one you (and everyone around you) expected you to take.
But. But! Specific issues I had with this: No one I know lives in such a white, vanilla and boring world. No librarian on a part-time contract can afford any type of daily life (let alone rent an apartment). No one from Scotland goes around saying "wee" this and "wee" that all the time. And please reassure me that no one wanting to show off the highlights of Michigan (which I love, I grew up there) goes to effing Frankenmuth?!
Scotsman in the Stacks was fine. Perhaps it was my higher hopes for it, especially as I have an upcoming trip to Scotland. If you're looking for an insta-love romance, this might just be better for you than it was for me.
Cringey at times, this book was just not my cup of tea. I wasn’t invested in Paige or James or how their romance would unfold. I just… didn’t care and the writing put me off sometimes as did the dialogue. I could not get into it, hard as I tried to. It wasn’t the book for me and that’s okay.
