Thank you for the chance to read this great clean book. I loved everything about it. It had so much to offer. Genevieve is the Mom of four and there are issues but she calls them all together after ditching her for a holiday meal. She gives them all a good lecture and up and left and moved away and gave them a lot to think about. I highly recommend you read this story to see how it all works out. I promise you won’t be disappointed. It was my first Emily March book but it will not be my last.

Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy.

I loved the central theme of family. The characters were very likeable. But, this book was a roller coaster. There were a lot of story lines. I had trouble keeping up in the beginning. By the time I made it to the middle, I had connected with them and wanted to see how it ended!

The Getaway is the first book in a new series by Emily March. While it is set in a new location from previous series, we do see connections with Eternity Springs, as well as Redemption and Ruin. The Prentice family has their drama and division, but they are first and foremost a family (although some of that drama does threaten to tear them apart). This first book centers on the mother, Genevieve, and her sister Helen, as well as oldest son Jake. There’s plenty of tension, grief, misunderstanding, and hard feelings. There’s also love and connection, passion, and emotion. The story is heartwarming and touching, with complex and fascinating characters. I look forward to reading more in this series.

I enjoyed reading The Getaway.
The new series, Lake In The Clouds.
It's engaging, funny & moving.
The Prentice family, have been
at odds with each other for a while.
They had always been close,
until the death of their "Poppy"
which threw a wrench in to their lives.
Genevieve, their mother, is tired
of all the heartbreak with the
rift in her family.
Jake, the oldest son, has had it with the place his works.
Both Genevieve & Jake, are in need of a change.
I look forward to Book 2.
A Must Read!!

I loved Emily March’s Eternity Springs series and her new series, Lake in the Clouds is sure to become a favorite of mine also. The same warm, loving, accepting theme is throughout this book.

This is the story of Genevieve, who was widowed young and raised her 4 children basically alone. Her close knit family was broken into pieces 3 years ago and she decides that for once in her life, she needs to let go and focus on herself. It is a great plot and I am sure so many women feel this desire also.

Her oldest son, Jake, put the burden of stepping into his absent father’s shoes upon himself early on and has a difficult time letting go of that role. When he is told that role was never his to assume and that he is not to continue, he is confused who he is. The road to self-discovery is often rocky and both Genevieve and Jake take the path head-on in this wonderful book.

The author wrote an excellent story full of a mother’s love, sibling disagreements, beautiful scenery, forgiveness, and gratefulness. With a touch of Celeste Blessing’s healing touch, hearts are healed, just as in the Eternity Springs series.

A huge thank you Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for giving me the immense pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

Genevieve has had some life! Widowed young and left to raise four young children was difficult but she did it with love and thoughtfulness. Now that they're all raised and independent, she is struggling with not only her diminished role in their lives but also her disappointment in their relationship with each other. Estranged over an inheritance, the siblings can barely get along. After a disastrous holiday meal where only her beloved older sister Hellen shows, Genevieve decides to break free from her family and have her own adventure. Genevieve and Hellen buy a new home in Colorado called Lake in the Clouds with the plan to renovate it and maybe operate it or flip it. Eventually each of her children find their way home to her in Colorado where they start to deal with the mess of their own lives. This story focuses on the oldest son Jake who is disillusioned with his job and calls it quits. We see his struggle to leave behind the trappings of work and responsibility to redefine himself and maybe to also discover love with a former colleague. All in, this is a beautiful story about rediscovering your family and forging new relationships with them along the way.

Genevieve is a widow who has raised 4 children on her own. The family has been at odds for some time and she is fed up. She sells her home and moves to Colorado with her sister. This is the story of a family and their journey to resolve their differences. I loved reading about this family and hope to see more of them in future books. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

As I read this family drama, June temps in my homestate of Texas exceeded 100 daily. No wonder we Texans have for decades fled every summer to vacation in Colorado! I know they must resent us, but I have priceless memories of family time there. This heartfelt family drama was especially relatable and would be a great summer escape read.
It's full of wit, emotions and good old fashioned Southern family traditions. Women of a certain age will so appreciate the obligations some of us had to carry on. My own mother had three considerably older sisters. Much like the mother in this story, I was the one the china (and stemware, silver, and serveware, etc.) was passed down to. My collection exceeds six sets dating back four generations. I need to follow some of the advice from this story.
The family matriarch, Genevieve, is having a meltdown hissy fit. Her four adult children have broken family traditions and ruined Thanksgiving. Ever since her husband's unexpected death many years ago, she's kept traditions going, no matter how scattered the kids were.
There are four kids with Jake the oldest a successful businessman. Lucas isn't as settled or dependable. Brooke is married to Travis, nobody in the family trusts or likes him. Willow has two young children. Her husband, Andy, was tragically killed in accident. Helen, Genevieve's older sister, lives in Colorado.
Lucas and Jake aren't speaking after a disagreement about the disposition of Lonesome River Ranch and Poppy’s will.
Jake is forced by his boss to conduct layoffs, this includes Tess. She's a designer at Jake's company and he is not pleased with the direction management is going.
Several months after the Thanksgiving let down, Genevieve is making some drastic life changes. She again calls all the kids home to the "Feast of the Epiphany". She has decided to announce her  retirement as the Prentice Family CEO. Blindsiding her kids with her move to Colorado and shockingly not taking the cherished china or much else. It's time for Genevieve to figure out her next chapter.
Genevieve and Helen have new adventures to pursue and old dreams to make happen. Jake and Tess cross paths again after he abruptly resigned.  Buried feelings and new beginnings are brewing.
The family feud over their grandfather’s lake house simmers. Brooke and Willow also have life changing events and the family learns to heal wounds.
This was a new author for me and it was a very enjoyable read. There are life lessons about baggage and families. There is drama, romance, and new beginnings. I look forward to more in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance digital copy of "The Getaway, Lake in the Clouds #1", and to Emily March, Forever, Grand Central Publishing.
These are my personal honest thoughts and opinions given voluntarily.

This was such a good book. It was a book I had no idea I needed. I felt like it gave me a bit of clarity & insight being a mom of 5. Ups & downs are part of life. And even your grown children can twist the heart strings. And how you must let them make there own path. Even if you disagree.

I’m a big fan of this author and this did not disappoint. This was truly a story that literally worms it’s way into your heart. It has a huge forgiving heart like a mom. It’s about love…a mothers, a siblings, and romantic. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this family.

Genevieve is a single mother who has raised 4 children after her husband passed away. After none of her children show up for Thanksgiving, she decides to pack up and move to Colorado to be with her sister. Her son Jake also comes to Colorado. The story focuses on their journey and the things they learn along the way

What a beautiful, heartfelt story of family, love, and healing old wounds.
Genevieve lost her husband at the age of 39, with four children to raise. She did her best, with the help of her sister, Helen, to keep traditions alive and family together. But all her efforts were wasted when a dispute tore her kids apart. Now they avoid each other, and keep secrets. Genevieve decides she has had enough, so she sells her house and belongings, and together with her sister embark on new adventures, one that entails fixing up an old resort. Slowly her children find their way back to her and to each other.
As always, Emily March writes characters that are real and relatable, with plots that flow effortlessly from scene to scene and captivate the reader from the start. Highly recommend. Best "Beach Read" I've read in a long time.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is the start of a new series by author Emily March. This story mostly deals with widowed Genevieve Prentice and her son Jake. Genevieve is tired of taking care of her four adult children, so she sells her house and moves to Lake in the Clouds, Colorado with her sister. They plan on renovating a lodge and making a new start. I liked this book but found it to be slow at times. Not sure if I will continue to read the other books in this series. It was just an average read.

This is the first in a new series by Emily March. The book introduces to the Prentice family, who is struggling through family (and personal) issues. I loved the setting very much, it made we want to visit the fictional town of Lake of the Clouds. The book was an easy, quick read and perfect for a travel day! I am not sure I would classify the book as a romance, but more general fiction. Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for letting me read this book and give my honest review!

Very emotional and entertaining kickoff to the Prentice family and Lake in the Cloud series. While Jake and Tess were utter sweetness and perfection as a couple- the boss situation, the firing, the courting- they were just meant for one another. But what I identified most with is the matriarch Genevieve and her strong hold on her family, not knowing when to grab ahold and when to let go.

As the mother of adult children, it is the hardest balance to give advice and listen compared to telling your child what to do and expecting them to listen. They have wings and we don't need to clip them, but we have always been in control and it's hard to back off and let them experience the hardship and trials of life when your advice could help them avoid some of that. Genevieve comes to the realization that she can't do it anymore, and the hardest part is to stop the worry, you can't control it anyway.

I loved the relationships and dramas of the siblings because it felt genuine, heatfelt and painful. As a mother, you have children you love and adore equally, but you can't make those children feel that same unconditional love for one another. It's heartbreaking.

The Getaway built a great foundation for this series. I cannot wait to read more about the Prentice family.

It was an average book, I didn't really seem to care about the main couple because it really focused on the mom and sister.

This book was so good for my soul. Just what I needed to read. This is about a family in turmoil. Sometimes you need to let go and go your own way and find yourself before you can deal with family issues. This book gave me a lot to think about. I highly recommend this book! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
