This cyberpunk thriller novel is brimming with comedic dialogue and a wide array of literary and pop culture references along the way. Daughter of the Cyber Dragon is set in a post-apocalyptic neo-LA, where society is ruled by the corporate elite and organized crime bosses. The main character Kei Springs is a female rider, motorcycle courier, who among others is just trying to survive day-to-day in a dystopian society. Kei soon finds herself on an assignment that takes her on the ride of her life, for better or worse.

The inner monologue of Kei places the reader in her perspective like a first-person role-playing game that any gamer would want to play. The storyline and character arcs keep the reader pleasantly anxious to find out what will happen next; all the while the novel entertains the reader with comedic relief in a tense and action-packed story. This book is a perfect read for every science fiction fan, especially anyone already in love with the cyberpunk subgenre.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC and I cannot wait for the remaining of this Trilogy to come out.

I wanted to like CT Phipps and Michael Suttkus's DAUGHTER OF THE CYBER DRAGONS. In theory, this should have hit my sweet spot. I love cyberpunk in general, and in their introductions, both Phipps and Suttkus talk about their desire, in this book, to focus on the mercenaries who enable the upper classes to maintain their power.
Unfortunately, I almost immediately lost interest. The first problem is the prose--it's not just weak, it's plain old bad in places. Disjointed, confusing, unclear. On top of that, the characters are all too strange (for me, anyway)--they exceeded my weirdness quotient.
Someone who likes that strangeness and isn't bothered by the prose might enjoy this story.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! I went into this book knowing nothing but the premise sounded interesting and I was right. The book starts a little slow, but quickly speeds up. Some aspects were a little hard to follow and the character’s motivation seemed to change a few times randomly but overall I found the premise interesting and I think I will read the next book in this series as well.
