An absolutely stunning book, with photos that could be framed. Practical tips on collecting and (duh) drying flowers to make art out of.
It is evident this book was born from love, however it unfortunately was not doable for me as a beginner. I still felt out of my depth, so I think this may be targeted at more intermediate flower dryers or those with a natural ability to style flowers. I have neither of those.
The amount of inspiration in this book is overflowing, and even looking at the images are enough to encourage creative projects. For me, those projects were on paper, and not with flowers, though.
I love dried flower arrangements so was really happy to see this book. The photographs are beautiful and really show case what can be done with an arrangement. The information contained within is perfect for a beginner and the projects give you something to try your hand at. All in all, a great book for people looking to have a go at making their own arrangements but not knowing where to start.
This book was precise and to the point. It made me curious and excited about the prospect of the various different, unique ways of drying flowers. It not only included ideas for drying flowers in summers but also in the fall. The best part in my opinion is how thorough and easy the guidelines were.
At first glance all these methods look hassle free and cost effective since everything needed to dry flowers and then arrage them in an aesthetic way, you already have in your houses.
Definitely going to try out some ideas very soon.
Highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in drying flowers or wants to add a bit of flare to their houses.
A great guide to making your own dried flowers. There’s a lot of flower projects too. I really liked the instructions. A lot simpler than I expected. At least with this book.
Modern Dried Flowers would make a nice addition to the craft book collection of anyone who is a fan of working with flowers. Even if you're not ready to deep dive into dried flower arrangements, this would make a nice coffee table book. The pictures are beautiful and Angela Maynard is highly skilled in this craft. Her projects were beautiful and cover a variety of uses and seasons. There is quite a bit of info on flower types, instructions on each project, tools needed and so on. What I would have liked to see a little more of is the process(es) and technique(s) of drying flowers. Besides that, this is a lovely book that I'd like to use a reference for future projects.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed are entirely my own.
While this guide does have a part explaining how to dry flowers this is more a guide for how to craft your dried flowers into various products. I've only just dabbled into drying flowers (by accident) I definitely am going to try out some of these projects. The first on my list is making a dried flower hair comb with a vase of dried flowers coming up next. A great resource!

Not quite what I was expecting. I would have liked to see more information on drying your own flowers but it was still an interesting read!
This is a really wonderful guide to flower arranging using dried flowers. It contained lots of useful tips and explanations as well as really accessible projects to try. I especially loved the buttonhole one, which looked really simple but effective.
The photography in the book is fantastic. It’s aesthetically pleasing but also really clear making the processes easy to follow.
My favourite part of the book was the guide to dried flowers at the end. It was a really helpful reference for me and has helped me to think of flowers I might grow myself to achieve my desired final look for a dried bouquet.
A great read!
This is a great knowledgeable depth into dried flowering. It is super complicated for me but I appreciate anyone who does it. This book isn't for me but the author is clearly an expert.
Not only does this book have some absolutely brilliant ideas on what to do with dried flowers, but it also has the basics - tools, how to dry flowers and much more.
Each project includes step by step photographs to help with each process, Maynard also includes what's best for each season.
From Corsages to hand-picked bouquets, wreaths to wall art. This book is perfect for those like me who love flowers and are wanting to pick up a new hobby.
The stunning photographs included will certainly draw you in and the simplicity of the book (without being too basic) will help anyone start this wonderful new hobby.
The visual guide to dried flowers at the end was the cherry on top of this book. A perfect coffee table book, a wonderful gift or just a lovely book on flowers and how we can bring them into out household.
I’ve always loved the look and idea of dried flowers, but I’ve never had any success - thanks to this book, I now know why. It’s not something you hope or wish for, it’s something you to have to plan. And this book helps you by giving so many tips and plans to make it work. I can’t wait to try to dry some flowers now with the knowledge Angela Maynard shared. Plus, the photography in this book is stunning!
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Oh I love this book so much! Very helpful and informative on arranging dried flowers! I will read this book again and again.
I have really enjoyed this book, finding it to be a source of inspiration to channel my creativity in a way I hadn't previously considered!
Advice is given on how to source dried flowers, be it purchasing flowers to create the projects, or foraging for your own.
The main focus of the book I found to be the projects for dried flowers, all of which were utterly stunning and inspiring, but I was also pleased to see that we are talked through the process of drying flowers to make the projects - good for those of us who are inspired to forage!
Overall I found this to be a beautiful book that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
I have tried drying flowers with equal successes and failures without any prior knowledge on how to do it correctly. So I was very excited to receive this copy of Modern Dried Flowers from NetGalley and it did not disappoint. Angela Maynard shared her knowledge in depth on the what, which, where and how"s on drying flowers. Every projects were accompanied with a clear step-by-step guide on how to create your own uniquely dreamy and whimsical floral arrangements.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC copy, I can't wait to get the hard copy when it's published.
I have a farm with a lot of land and grow a wide range of plants from cover crop where I grow wheat, oats, herbs and then flowers and vegetables. I harvest a lot of dried wheat, oats, flowers, and even some vegetable flowers and herb seed heads, so consequently, I am ALWAYS looking at books, etc. for inspiration. I am a creative so the ideas flow but there is nothing like finding that gem that inspires. Unfortunately for me, this one fell a little short. It felt flat. Not that it's not beautiful, it is and I follow Angela Maynard on Instagram but I was so rooting for this book and her because I adore her.
But, it did not have the wow factor. I was waiting for pops of color because dried flowers can have color and dry exceptionally well, such as strawflower, bachelor buttons, yarrow, etc. Angelas 'Summer Swag' fell into this category and also her copper mess arrangement is such a great idea, but why lay the flowers flat and not facing out. If I arranged it flat I would put one another row facing the other direction and then a design down the center. Angela also spoke about the "increasingly conscious of the impact of choices on the environment" and how that is another reason dried flowers are increasing in appeal but during the 'Everlasting Corsage,' there was the use of white Ruscus which as environmentalists we are teaching about the harm to the environment with the use of dried bleached flowers such as white Ruscus. But there needed to be more selection of flowers because this felt limiting when there is so much more to use. Dried flowers are growing in appeal right now and it's a very good thing they are because they have so much to offer. I hate putting perfectly beautiful stems in my compost pile so here I am hanging them in my workshop and knowing they have tremendous value. This kind of book is needed. And Angela's cover is beautiful, eye-catching everything I think a book on dried flowers should be but I hope there is a second edition so Angela can add more to this great concept and give it that wow factor and better photography.
I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this much-needed book.
All in all this was a nice, simple introduction to this topic. I have a pipe dream that I'll find a way to build a career in some sort of artsy field, but don't have much knowledge or skills, which is why I was interested in this book.
My favorite part of the book was the visual guide to dried flowers and plants - I appreciated the images and level of detail included in that section. I also appreciated that the author included a variety of project types ranging from wearable crafts to different home decoration projects. It was also nice that there were some included references as additional resources to consider.
I was hoping the book would include more information in the drying process and methods of drying as well as the how to of selecting and designing the crafts. I feel that there is some level of introductory tasks relating to this craft that were missing - if I acquired some flowers/plants I'm not sure if I'd totally be able to get started just using this book alone.
This was a visually appealing read that had some fun looking projects and information.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I don't know much about flower arranging, but found this book to be beautiful. There are some fun ideas on flower arranging and how to make flower crowns or set up a wall display. There's tips on finding the right vase to display flowers. I was hoping for more information on sourcing flowers and how to find them. There's pictures that show step by step how to complete the projects.
Overall a nice find!
