The summary of "Edward and Amelia" was appealing, as were the title and cover of the book, but I haven't enjoyed the story.
I didn't appreciate Amelia, the heroine, who was very self-centred. She's looking for trouble by breaking the rules, and when she accidentally falls into the Serpentine and is rescued by Edward, she only has herself to blame, yet for her the fault lies in others. By the middle of the book, I became bored with the book and stopped there.
Edward and Amelia contains some of the funniest laugh out loud moments I have entertained in some time. Poor Edward seems to bungle his post-marriage courtship of Amelia to the highest degree. He will endear himself to you as he goes about trying to make Amelia fall in love with him as he holds his heart at arm’s length.
Amelia! She has a heart of gold as she traverses an odd marriage trying to protect herself from Edward and her own family. There is a huge lack of communication that could have taken care of a lot of Edward and Amelia’s problems. I love the way Edward and Amelia’s father reacted at the end of the sweet romance. Amelia’s heart seemed to always belong to Edward even when she was not sure she could trust him. You will thoroughly enjoy this clean romance that centers on relationships, trust and love.
Such a great story! Marriage of Convenience and arranged marriages are my very favorite type of books. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Edward and Amelia gradually fall in love after their forced marriage. Edward certainly tried to make things work, with often amusing results. This was a delight to read!
I have mixed feelings about this one. Loved the romance, loved the set-up. However the misunderstandings that kept happening and the amount of times Amelia directly asked about Edwards reputation and he got away with not talking about it was somewhat aggravating. The reputation ruining that went down was also a little over the top. However, the disparity was more believable that way. If you like marriage of convenience, jealousy, and secrets. This one's for you.
I really enjoyed this book. Edward was so fun and awkward in his attempts to make his marriage a happy one. Amelia was fierce but also vulnerable in the esteem she held for herself. There were characters that I loved and characters that I wanted to give a piece of my mind. I would definitely recommend this book.
This book was fantastic! I loved it! My first book by this author, and she writes beautifully. She has that flow to her writing that make you able to read it quick and easy. Also she is able to make you see the scene in your mind vividly and feel the emotions the characters are feeling, great writer! As for the story itself, it is set in the regency era where all matter of things are considered scandalous. Edward and Amelia find themselves in one of those situations and are forced to marry. Edward has a bad reputation so Amelia is not sure he is to be trusted. Amelia also has a physical situation she is trying to hide from him. I loved both characters so much. They find themselves in all sorts of situations, some humorous, some horrible and some sweet. Absolutely recommend!
I am sorry to say i.dnfed the book at 51 %. Was it bad? Absolutely not. But There were too many misunderstandings and thing happening around them that became too Much for me. I really liked the slowburning lovestory though. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion
Oh Edward. You may be a charmer and a rake but you desperately need help wooing your wife. When Amelia and Edward are found alone together her father forces a marriage. Amelia knows his reputation and puts up walls around her heart. She hides physical scars and is always being put down by her sister. Edward is trying to make up for the mistakes of his past. I loved seeing his character arc and how they both changed and learned to trust each other. Edward’s honorary Aunts were so great! And kissing scenes at a piano are the best!
Spoiler Alert.
What a kick-ass story!
This was a Regency novel, meaning little to no sex, and I am.okay with that because that is how I started reading romance in my 'tweens. I do not hate Regency romances unless they are like Barbara Cartland. I know she was the 'Queen of Romance", but her books were just too much for me: too wordsy, too trite, the age gap was too much, too much drama, just too much.
But while this story is definitely a read-every-word story, it was not a let down. The momentum started out slow and then just kept getting better. Oh, and the age gap made sense.
The heroine is the youngest of three sisters; her sisters being twins. And she has an evil sister and an oblivious sister. She feels shunned by her family ever since her mother passed away because she looked so much like their mother. Her oldest sister was a jealous thing and did stuff just to be mean, like changing the shoe size of the cobbler's order so the heroine's shoes were too big. Little, evil things like that. The heroine had saved the life of a young boy when she was about 10 years old and had scars from skidding down a sharp stones slope. The oldest sister told her she was an embarrassment to the family because of her scars that went from her neck, down the right side of her body. Yes, pure evil. So the heroine had been feeling down trodden for many years.
The hero is a known rake who decides to get married this year. He is known for ruining women and refusing to marry them. He had just come back from a house party where the lady he wanted to court became engaged to someone else. He was walking through the park and saw a lady trying to reach for her bonnet that had landed in the river. It is the heroine. She had escaped to the park for some peace and thought she heard a child cry out and went looking for the child. But it was a bird. So as she was making her way home, a breeze carried away her bonnet and after much grabbing and missing, it landed in the river. So when the hero tries to help her, he accidentally nudges her and she lands in the water. He helps her out and grabs her bonnet. They are both soaked and fighting by the time they make it to dry land and see that some of Sociaety is watching them. The heroine is taken home by an older, gossipy lady who tells her father, the duke, what has happened. And the hero, who has dodged marriage by accident for so long, agrees to marry her.
This story is about a heroine who is struggling to find herself and a hero who is trying to correct his reputation and become a hero.
This story was a nice read with little parts that drag. I was able to read it quite comfortably. The story, age and supporting characters made sense. I wish the evil sister's punishment had been more detailed, but the story was great! I give it 5 shining stars and recommend reading.
Thank you NetGalley!!
This was a great book! I loved watching E and A’s relationship progress.
Both characters were so likable, even when they misunderstood or did something without thinking.
Favorite scene:
The musicale 😝
I love a good marriage of convenience/forced marriage trope and I did enjoy this one. I thought the scars Amelia felt the need to hide were an interesting twist that I don’t think I have read before. Poor Edward was clueless! I usually really hate the miscommunication trope but I think it worked well in this story since he was ashamed of his past. The sister was just hateful and that overshadowed the romance at times, making me want more of the MCs together but otherwise this was an enjoyable read.

I thought the hook of the story was delightful! It really drew me in and captivated me. I was slightly bored somewhere in the middle, but it came together at the end pretty well. Amelia is such an interesting character and watching how people interact with her was fascinating. Edward is hilarious and absolutely delightful. I really didn't like him when he appeared in To Marry an Earl, but I love him now! The one drawback I had was we didn't get very much information on the event that changed Amelia's life. You get bits and pieces but I couldn't put it all together. Karen Thornell is a delightful author and I am excited to see where she goes with her writing career!
Aw- I liked it. You know how sometimes you are reading a book, and the heroine misunderstands things or is just a ninny and sabotages her relationship? I’m happy to report that this specific heroine had convincing reasons to believe her husband was a punk. I appreciated that she wasn’t just ignorant or dramatic. I also appreciated that her husband turned out to not really be a punk. I loved his mother’s friends as well.
(And it’s a clean read.)
Edward and Amelia is a sweet clean regency romance. I love both marriage of convenience stories and enemies to lovers stories and this book had both! I enjoyed everything about this book. The characters were great. They both had insecurities and imperfections to work on just like we all do. I could really relate to them. The story was a lot of fun and made me laugh. This is a book I really recommend!
Yes -read it.
I enjoyed this read. While the description is accurate, I thought it would be a standard read; however it wasn't predictable. I liked the main characters & routed for them both. Little bit a mystery or unknown component to the story.
I received an ARC from Netgalley to help me prepare for my honest review.
Cute book! There were times when the characters drove me bonkers but it was necessary and all came together in the end.
It’s a story of forced marriage. This one had a slightly different feel to it. Edward was my favorite and I actually quite liked Amelia. I don’t have patience for quiet simpering characters. I felt that all the characters in the story were well done! I feel it’s good to have a variety of emotions about and from all the characters and this fit the bill!
Happily ever afters are the best and this did not disappoint!
“You are not your scars.”
Karen Thornell is definitely a favorite author! Whether she’s writing contemporary or Regency, her heartfelt characters really shine through. I loved this story of two endearingly flawed people battling with scars, both physical and mental. It’s a forced marriage, reformed rake, slow burn romance with a pretty despicable villain. I had such a hard time putting this one down!
I adored Edward! His reputation is awful and he’s blamed for the ruination of many young ladies whether deserved or not. But, he’s finally determined to marry and settle down. When forced to marry Lady Amelia, he desperately wants to make it work. The poor guy has the best intensions, but goes about wooing Amelia in all the wrong ways. Without good parental role models, he struggles. Thank heavens he has two enjoyable biddies who try to guide him in the process.
As the Duke of Stafford’s youngest daughter, Amelia is constantly criticized for her behavior and appearance, especially by her sister Edith. Since her mother’s death, she feels forgotten and unloved. The scars hidden beneath high necklines are often a source of ridicule and embarrassment. She’s made to feel worthless until Edward comes along. With his flowery compliments and pet names, she can hardly take him seriously. She guards her secrets and erects her walls determined not to love him. As she gets to know Edward, she begins to let her guard down, but is he still the rake Society’s deemed him?
The banter was delicious. Amelia is so cowed when she’s with her family, but her fiery personality comes out around Edward. The romance was amazing. I loved those near kisses (darn Coombs the interrupting butler) and touches on the hand. The piano lesson bench scene was my favorite. At times, I wanted to shake the two! When they finally communicate, it’s obvious they’re perfect for each other.
Edith was horrid. She’s so mean to Amelia and her jealous tactics are awful. She’s a villain you want to see get her comeuppance. Yet, the author manages to make her a little sympathetic at the end.
This is definitely a favorite read! The great characters, storyline, and witty dialogue had me quickly turning those pages. If you love clean, Regency romance, this is for you! Can’t wait to read more of Karen’s books. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author and publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 4 1/2 stars/5

I found this book charming. It was filled with humor and a host of other emotions but it also contained humanism. I felt that both characters were close to human with the errors that they made that affected. The results affected their place in society, their reputation, everything. Written very well with smooth tracking, this book is a gem.
Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Edward and Amelia was just magic. This is just the kind of Regency Romance I love. When things are forced so as not to cause a scandal, these two are out to get to know each other. Amelia is able to get away from her horrid sister, kind of, but Edward's reputation keeps threatening to get in the way.
This is one of my favorite tropes, but what made it even better were these excellent characters. There were times I thought they were too nice given their opposition, but it worked out better than I would have handled it.
I am loving this world and these stories. It was nice to see characters from Karen Thornell's previous offering.
This is a delightful read and I could not put it down. It was the perfect escape.
I received an early copy through the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.
