Kelly Siskind crafted a wonderful story that I couldn't put down. Delilah and Edgar had a one in a lifetime love, they had a rocky windy path that lead to the very best HEA.
I was hooked from the first page of this newest book from Kelly Siskind! This was a really unique, engaging, and entertaining story.
At 17 Edgar and his family had to enter witness protection. They were forced to leave everything behind, but he never forgot his first love Delilah. When a chance meeting leads to a second chance he is willing to do whatever it takes to get her back.
The romance is a bit of a slow burn, and it worked well here as they have to get to know each other as adults. They were both hurt when he had to leave years ago and it was interesting seeing them work through their past.
I really liked Kelly's writing and the character development. I can't wait to read more in the series.
This romance had a little of everything- past love, small town, witness protection program and a bunch of big burly brothers. It will both make you laugh and break your heart and you can’t help but root for the main characters. This story also did a great job at setting up further books to come in the series.
At 16 years old, Edgar "E" Bower thought his life was perfect between the art he loved to draw, and his girlfriend, Delilah Moon, whom he loved even more. Then suddenly that life was ripped away from E because of his father's involvement with a money laundering scheme, and their family was thrown into the witness protection services. E couldn't contact Delilah because a local mob was out to kill them and he didn't want to put her in any harms way. Now living in Houston instead of Windfall, E still pines for Delilah even after 10 years. When Edgar and his brother Lennon happen to be on a flight heading home, who should be sitting in front of them but Delilah! Edgar is dying to talk to her to let her know that he is still alive. When they get off the flight, he goes up to her to tell her. She is feeling all kinds of emotions but tells him she is engaged to someone else.
Skip a few months forward and the cartel that was looking to kill E's entire family has been wiped out and WITSEC has informed the family that they don't have to be in the program anymore if they don't want to. Now E has a plan. Go back to Windfall and win Delilah back. He has even made a list of 50 ways he is going to do that. E eventually worms his way back into Delilah's life and things are going well but he can tell that she is holding something back. Delilah is afraid that her secret will end her relationship with E. When the truth finally comes out things going okay, then everything quickly spirals downward. It will take a lot of introspective dealings for these two to find their happy ever after but they finally do in such a great way.
I just adore this second chance love story. Edgar and Delilah were meant for each other from the first time they met. They shared such a great connection. I really enjoyed both of the characters.....they were so real and entertaining. I loved all of the ideas that E was coming up with to win Delilah back and I really laughed during their banter. Overall this was a wonderful story and I can't wait to read the rest of the Bower brother's stories.
4.5*
I love me some E!
Man, can Kelly Siskind write a swoony, heart melting cinnamon roll or what? Her guys are some of my favorites, and now E has been added to that list. He is so sweet and funny and loving and devoted, ugh, just everything you could want in a man.
I really loved this second chance romance between E and his first, and only, love Delilah. When I was young I used to think being put into the witness protection program would be cool, and maybe to a certain extent I still feel that way, but I can't really imagine being pulled away from everyone you love, without even having a chance to say goodbye. That's exactly what happened to E when they were just teens. It's now 10 years later, he's out of WITSEC and determined to win back Delilah- and he's got his list of 50 ways to do it!
This was such a fun story, but also a bit of a heart tugger when you think of all the years these 2 lost, and everything that happened while they were separated. But I so enjoyed seeing E put his plan into motion! I really loved seeing them fall in love all over again- although I don't think either one of them ever fell out of love. From the moment E and Delilah first met, you know they were destined to be together. And it made me so happy they were able to find their way back to each other.
I'm so excited for the rest of the Bower boys stories- I can't wait for them all to find love again!
50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover by Kelly Siskind is the First book in the Bower Boys Series. This is the story of Delilah and Edgar. Edgar and his brothers had to enter into the witness protection program about 10 years ago. This was due to their father laundering money from the drug cartel. Besides upsetting their lives, Edgar had to leave the one and only girl he has ever loved. When by chance he gets to reenter her life he takes the chance to do so. Enjoyed this book and can't wait for more from this author / series.
Told from the hero's POV, 50 Ways To Win Back Your Lover is a delightful second-chance romance -- with a twist. It's been 10 years since Edgar (or E) had to leave in the middle of the night to enter witness protection with his family, crushing Delilah's heart as she was ghosted and left behind. A chance encounter -- in an airport of all places! -- reunites this couple. But is Delilah still available? E doesn't much care, because he is determined to win back the one that got away. Well, the one that he was forced to leave behind.
This story is sweet and sexy and E is so dang charming. I was really rooting for him to win her over all over again! I love books that are totally from the male POV, and feel like I don't come across them often enough. So I was really excited to get this story fully from E's perspective.
Kelly Siskind sets up a great series with this book, and I am excited to see what comes next for the Bower brothers. There are some issues that the brothers have to deal with due to their father's involvement in a cartel that led to them being in WITSEC to begin with, so I'm interested to see how that plays out through the rest of this series as well.
I received an advanced copy from Montlake via NetGalley and voluntarily left a review.
I've missed Kelly so much!
This book is full of Kelly's familiar story elements. Fun, banter, and emotionally charged moments that make you feel fuzzy inside.
However, this series feels that has something more... just more...
Life was really cruel to the Bower Boys and their mom; one incident ruined their lives and made them move away from everything they knew in Windfall.
They've been away from the quirky little town for 10 years now and they cannot go back!
A change in fortune allows the boys to reconnect with former friends, enemies, and lovers.
This is where our story starts and the series kicks off.
E, aka Edgar, and Delilah are the first characters that are trying to reconnect, and trust me it is not an easy task.
I got a bit irritated by E's optimistic and sweet approach to this whole situation. At a first glance, he seems a bit scatter-headed and the most delusional person in this story.
I'm a big girl and I can admit when I'm wrong.
E is just a hopeless romantic and a man irrevocably in love with Delilah. and nothing can make him not think of Delilah 24/7.
I liked the second half of the book a bit more since things started progressing and we learned more about the characters in this series. This is when the crying started and my heart moved permanently in the Bowers' household.
Edgar and Delilah did their part and introduced us to this lovely series.
Good job guys, I'm already hooked!
Thank you to @greyspromo and @netgalley for the copy!
4.5/5 - 50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover by Kelly Siskind, book one in her Bowers Boys series, is a second chance romance that will capture your heart, mind, and soul. E might stand for Edgar Eugene Bower, but it also exemplifies how emotional and emphatic he is; especially as he tried to complete, and succeed, in his mission to win back his beloved, Delilah Moon .Ten years ago after an amazing night with Delilah, Edgar and his brothers were forced to leave their small town and go into witness protection, because their father worked with the mafia and the family had death threats against them. No contact with anyone from their former was allowed. Edgar left his first and only love, Delilah, the one person he had been longing for her ever since. Imagine his surprise when he and one of his brothers find themselves on the same plane as Delilah, sitting behind her. This was the pinnacle, wanting a reunion with Delilah, pushing Edgar to return to their small town; hoping for a second chance with her. Edgar’s return doesn’t quite go as planned, but as his story is leaked, along the small town gossip line, former friends and strangers begin to accept him and his presence in the town. He did have a checklist of 50 things to do to help ease the trauma Delilah struggled with after his disappearance. As Edgar and Delilah spend time together, they are actually re-discovering each other all over again; falling in love again, this time as adults, not teens. Delilah has a secret about something that happened after Edgar’s disappearance, one that is a result of the downhill spiral she found herself in after he left. A secret that could make or break a loving future together for her and Edgar. I highly recommend 50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I give this book 4,5 stars rounded up to 5 stars.
This is a second chance/small town romance that hit me right in my heart. Kelly Siskind made me feel everything that the main characters felt all throughout the story. She made me laugh, she made me cry, she made me angry and she broke my heart and put it back together again with the HEA between E (Brian aka Edgar) and Delilah Moon. I have never read a book by Kelly Siskind before and this will definitely not be the last!
E and Delilah went from enemies/friends/lovers/enemies/friends/lovers. They are forced from each other when they are 16 because of E’s father and ten years later E gets a chance to return to Windfall to redeem himself and win back Delilah.
He has been in love with her ever since he met her and that has definitely not changed. He will do anything to get her forgiveness and win back her love but she has been through a lot since his family left town and she(and the townspeople) won’t make it easy on him.
I loved E and Delilah. Their banter was so funny and you could really feel that even though they have been apart for ten years they know each other still at some level. E would do anything to make Delilah smile and laugh but he would also give her space and time when she needed it even though it hurt him to do it.
The end conflict was quickly resolved by them talking about it and that was great even though I didn’t like that she kept that secret until the end.
E’s family was great too and I felt so happy that E redeemed them so they could return to Windfall without being treated like crap like E was in the beginning.
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series because OMG E’s brother Desmond’s book is going to be so emotional and though to read. I am sure it is going to hit me on my feels yet again.
I can definitely recommend this book.
I got this book from Netgalley and Kelly Siskind. This is my honest opinion and my voluntary review.
This was my first read from this author but I'm definitely looking forward to reading more, especially in the Bower Boys world. While it certainly had some light, funny moments, there were way more deep and emotional ones for us to feast on. Edgar and Delilah have both been through so much in the last 10 years and neither can really know the impact of Edgar's father's actions on everyone's lives. Sweet and sexy times are in abundance as well. There is more to learn about our boys (E and his brothers) and I'm here for the journey. Can two people come back from perceived rejection? Will the beautiful and idyllic town of Windfall be the balm that can heal them both?
4 stars. This was a good book! 50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover is the first book in the Bower Boys series and is Edgar/"E" and Delilah's book. E and Delilah met as kids and became childhood sweethearts. They have a soulmate connection and no one has any doubt they will be together forever. But at seventeen, the night after their "first time" together, Feds come and get their family to move them to witness protection. Unbeknownst to their family, E's dad has been money laundering, angering a dangerous cartel, and in order to save them all, he must turn state's witness. No one has a chance to tell anyone goodbye and E must leave Delilah behind. But he had a very hard time and has not let a day go by without mourning their relationship. Now ten years later, he is living life undercover as "Brian" with his family in another state when he happens to board a plane that Delilah is also on. He can't help speaking to her, even though it hurts them both because Delilah doesn't understand why he left her, and he finds out she is now supposedly engaged. Very soon after that, E's family finds out their stint in WITSEC is over when the cartel they are hiding from is wiped out by a rival gang. He is determined to go back to his hometown and win back Delilah's heart.
I really enjoyed this book. I found it very well-written and it had such a unique premise with a great story. Edgar/"E" was such a doll. He absolutely adored Delilah and was still very much in love with her 10 years after being ripped apart. They grew up together and were childhood sweethearts. He knew everything about her and was so sweet to her, willing to do anything to get her back. He had such strong emotions and guilt about everything that happened, when none of it was actually his fault. I felt bad for him. I liked Delilah too, but I didn't connect to her as much because the book is only in E's POV. I would have loved to get even a little bit of Delilah's POV. I'm not a huge fan of male only POV books and didn't know this was one going in. But if I have to live in any guy's head, it would have been E's. He was simply adorable. He and Delilah had a soulmate connection and were truly meant to be together. The small town setting, potential for E's brother's books, and the fun side characters all helped to make this an entertaining read. I had a hard time putting this book down.
Overall, 50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover was a winning read! I am so intrigued by this unusual premise and I can't wait to see E's four brothers get books to see how it all plays out. I look forward to more from Ms. Siskind in the future!
This is one of the best second chance romances I have ever read! It’s my first book by Siskind and I was thrilled to learn that it’s the first of a brand new series involving all five Bower brothers! I picked this up for its unique premise and quickly fell in love with the author’s writing style. I already can’t wait to dive into her backlist.
Ten years ago, Edgar Bower and his family were forced into WITSEC and had to leave their small town in the middle of the night. Edgar left his girlfriend, Delilah, behind and wasn’t able to contact her or even let her know that he was okay. He never stopped thinking about her, and when he is unexpectedly released from witness protection, he immediately returns to Windfall to try and win her back. Unfortunately, he’s still unable to explain what happened to him and his family all those years ago, and he doesn’t receive the warm reception he’s hoping for.
I loved that this is told entirely from Edgar’s perspective! He’s our nerdy, sensitive, beta hero and his sense of humor kept a smile on my face even during the darker moments. And there are quite a few of those. Even while Edgar is trying to make amends to the people who were hurt by his family’s disappearance, it seems like everyone in Windfall was affected in some way and they aren’t afraid to share their opinions (and their wild theories about what happened to them). The story is told using flashbacks to show what the relationship between Edgar and Delilah was like before Edgar left and my heart broke over and over again for all of the time they lost. Siskind somehow managed to make this story feel light while thoroughly exploring both Edgar and Delilah’s heartache.
The banter is top notch and these two fall back into their old, friendly ways pretty quickly. E is such a sweet, cinnamon roll and I loved his 50 steps to get Delilah back and how dedicated he was to making her fall in love with him again. It’s a slow burn that’s worth the wait because the spice is top tier!
Read this if you love angsty pining, second chances, lists, dark secrets, witty banter, an artistic hero and a tough heroine. Thank you so much to Kelly Siskind and Grey’s Promotions for the arc to read and review! I’m already on pins and needles waiting for Desmond’s book! 50 Ways To Win Back Your Lover is out today!
He only needed one
With everything this poor guy has been through in just the last 10 years, he's definitely due for something good in his life. After his dad's shady deals with the mafia lands his family in sudden overnight witness protection he has no way of contacting the girl who meant everything to him. A true test of letting go someone to ultimately protect them was gut-wrenching. His unexpected and accidental meeting with her stirs up things that were always stirring at the surface, but with the threat suddenly removed we all know what his first move will be - back home to fix things and get her back.
Told through only his POV gives it an even more realistic edge as we don't know where her head is at or how this will all go down. With his patience and persistence you know (or hope) that it works out.
It's definitely a slow burn with these two as she's in overprotective mode after being abandoned. You can't help love the solid connection they still have after all these years.
Definitely excited to see what happens with all the brothers, but honestly am most looking forward to Desmond's story. His spiral that we caught a glimpse of in this book definitely has a lot to deal with and clear up. Can't wait.
Thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read this book and give my opinion.
This is the 1st in a new series, and this is Edgar and Delilah’s journey. At 17-years -old Edgar is in love with his girlfriend, and then he and his family leave town without a word. Now a decade later, while sitting in an airport with his brother, E hears Delilah’s name being paged over the tannoid, which has his head in a spin. I loved the inner dialogue E has which is hilarious. E returns to his hometown, determined to make amends with Delilah, but he does not get a great reception from her or the other town folk. This is a well written story which is sweet, and is fun, with 2nd chances, humor, witty banter, family, friendships, twists, regrets, tension, emotions, revelations, and love, which leads to a wonderful page turner. I look forward to reading more about the other brothers in this family.
I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
All I want to start with is the fact that Delilah and E own me. From literally the very first sentence of this book, I didn't want to put it down but I wanted to stop reading to savour it. I've had a difficult time finding books that I actually enjoy and can stay interested in. I am so grateful to have found this book, and this author.
There's actually nothing better than watching Edgar do anything and everything in his ability to win back Delilah- his Delilah. Small town second chance romances hit the spot like no other.
I'm not exactly sure how else to say it without being subtle so yes, I loved this book. I reread it more than I'd care to admit. That's all thank you for your time
Fantastic.
There are not enough words to describe how fantastic this book was. This author knocked this book out of the park. This is hands down my favorite book that she has written, which says something because there are some great books in her backlog.
Everything about this book was a reminder of why I am always searching for that 'magic' that takes me on a journey and gives me all the warm fuzzies. From the very first page, I was hooked. E, was the main character. His humor and inner monologue had me laughing. The banter between the brothers and some of the side characters was on point and had me thirsting for more interactions as if I was dehydrated in the desert. While this book was humorous, it also was a tad painful at times knowing how the actions of the father seemed to have had a butterfly effect and had caused so much fallout for everyone involved, and not just the Bower boys themselves.
In my opinion, it would be hard for a person to not fall in love with this amazing family, in particular, Edgar (This name kills me) and Delilah. The setup for the remaining brothers to have their stories told makes me giddy. It was a tossup of whether I wanted Desmond or Lennon's story next but after the bombshell that was dropped, it was a no-brainer of who I wanted next.
One of the best of 2022.
Heavy and Surprisingly Angsty Romantic Comedy?
E or Brian Baker (not his real name) is in witness protection. His father laundered money for a drug cartel forcing him, his four brothers and his mom into hiding. One day at the airport he sees his past love, Delilah Moon, after ten years in hiding. E is still in love with Delilah - he decides to break the rules and talk to her and that’s when he sees her engagement ring.
E is trapped right behind her for the whole flight and overhears her complaining about her fiance. He makes up his mind to talk to her when they land. E does talk to Delilah but it goes poorly. He tells her the truth but she doesn’t believe him. He remembers the love they shared ten years ago:
“Delilah was all the stars in the galaxy, so big and bright I could never quite hold all of her.”
When the cartel that is after his family is taken out by rivals all of the brothers and their Mom meet to discuss not having to hide anymore. They are all affected in different ways and their lives have become warped versions of what they once were.
E decides to lie to his family and return to their old town and Delilah. He’s going to think up fifty ways to win her back.
This story of E and Delilah’s love is told in first person narration by E only. It goes back and forth between the present and E trying to win back Delilah and his top 10 favorite days or memories from their relationship. The narration left me with the feeling that Delilah was a bit of a cypher. I can understand why it was done this way but I would have liked to be able to get in her head. In reference to the graphic novel that E is writing, Delilah tells him:
“Because this is YOUR story, E. Not our story. Certainly not mine.”
That’s how I feel about this book. It’s very one-sided.
When the “surprise” is revealed it’s very heavy-handed. Actually the heaviness of the entire book surprised me.
There are a lot of light moments and E has a great sense of humor but the pathos is pronounced for a book that seems like it’s going to be a lot lighter based on the cover and synopsis. So if you’re expecting a cute rom com - this is not that. If this cover and blurb makes you want an angsty second chance romance - you are in luck.
I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
This book took me on the best emotional rollercoaster. It's a slow burn, second chance love that makes you laugh while also breaking your heart before putting it back together.
Delilah and E's love story is complicated by his father's poor life choices. They are forced apart as teens and each grow up to be two very different people in the 10 years that pass. This makes both E and Delilah's character arcs satisfying. Delilah starts off closed off and deeply hurt by E's absence and her traumatic response to that loss. E seems naive, thinking if he goes through his 50 point list of things to win Delilah back everything will be as it was. As he soon finds out, a reminder of the things that used to work between the two of them doesn't fix anything. The way that trust and friendship redevelop between E and Delilah was told well, with lots or heart and some spicy moments that didn't overpower the story. And bonus points to the cast of characters that is Windfall, the quirky neighbors who remind me of the residents of Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls.
Overall a well written start to a new series that I can't wait to read more of.
50 Ways to Win Back Your Lover by Kelly Siskind
Bower Boys #1
Wonderful way to spend the day ~ thoroughly enjoyed this book!
What I liked:
* Edgar “E” Brian: artist, graphic novel illustrator, brother, son, brokenhearted by losing his one true love, willing to o whatever it takes to see her happy…and with him
* Delilah: baker, shop owner, daughter, good friend to many, loves her small town, devastated when Edgar disappeared, guarded, has secrets
* Edgar’s mother and brothers – hope they move back to Windfall…at least two others are lined up for their own potential happily ever after that I would like to read about
* Windfall: small town with charm, interesting caring characters, great place that I would love to visit
* Getting to meet and get to know the people that were important to Edgar and Delilah
* The way the two spent time together reacquainting themselves with one another as they danced around and toward a future together
* That it made me smile, care, and hope they could get it right
* Reading a new-to-me author that I would gladly read again
What I didn’t like:
* The money laundering father that disrupted and broke up Edgar’s family and left devastating damage to so many
* The difficult time more than one had after Edgar’s family was whisked away to WitSec
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
