Rich housewives thriller. It was pretty fast paced, I was never bored. The twists of course are all right at the end but it wasn’t painful getting there. The characters are all so over the top and self obsessed. If you liked Desperate Housewives or Big Little Lies you will like this book. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy of this book! Release day is 4/26!
Update 4/7/22 I received a copy of the audiobook from the publisher as well. I already read the book back in January so I didn’t fully listen to the audiobook. I did skip around and listen to a few parts and the narrators were great. It’s a full cast, 5 narrators. I wish I’d gotten the audio first that’s always my preference and a full cast is always awesome. Definitely would recommend!
After reading this book early, I was thrilled to receive the opportunity to also early review the audiobook! The cast of narrators were absolutely perfect and truly embodied the ladies of Buckhead. Below is my original review of One of Us is Dead; as I said before - you HAVE to read this!!
Well choo choo choo - this book was an absolute train wreck and I mean that in the best way possible! 🚂
I LOVED this book! I don’t really know what I expected going in but it definitely delivered. I loved the multiple POVs from all the wives but especially Jenny the hairstylist. We all tell our life story to our hairstylists so I thought this was a fun and unique piece to this story. I’m also really glad you know from the first page Jenny isn’t the one that ends up dead because I would’ve been DEVESTATED. She was an absolute gem.
My only complaint is that sometimes the story was repetitive because scenes would sometimes happen again from a different wife’s point of view, but other than that I loved every minute of this book!
THANK YOU NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for this ARC and thank you Jeneva Rose for writing this incredible book! One of Us is Dead comes out April 25th and you HAVE to read it!!
Read this if you:
*liked Big Little Lies
*love reading about rich people (& their problems)
*like multiple POV
*LIVE FOR DRAMA
I was hooked on Jeneva Rose after reading The Perfect Marriage. This one did not disappoint. One husband trades in one wife for a younger, hotter one. One husband is a plastic surgeon. One is in “supply chain” (and I had to lol @ this because I work in ACTUAL supply chain. Her description has me cackling). Affairs. Lies. Secrets. Hidden pasts. You will not want to miss this one.
Thank you NetGalley & Blackstone for eARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub date: Apr 26
Jenny owns Glow, the salon for anyone who is anyone in the high end town of Buckhead. Glow is the hot spot to be for the women of Buckhead, and being a member there is not easy to come by. For Olivia and her close-knit friend group, Glow is their place to be and Jenny knows all of the scandalous drama that happens in these women’s lives. Things start to bubble toward disaster when Shannon’s husband leaves her for a younger woman, Crystal. Crystal is soon thrust into the drama and handed a membership at Glow. In with the new and out with the old, Olivia takes advantage of this to take over leading the group and turning everyone against Shannon. But Shannon is not the type to walk away kindly, and the town of Buckhead is in for some deadly consequences.
Holy Drama! This book is packed with scandal and deception. For the fans of Desperate Housewives, this book is sure to entertain! The added devilish and deadly turn at the end really shows just how determined some people are to ruin others’ lives, or taking them.
I thought the character development was superb. Switching between the various women's perspectives allowed for a reader to get into the minds of the characters. It also made me loathe them and love them, well some of them. I felt there was a strong understanding of who each woman was and as the story flowed along I was eager to see just how each woman’s life would play out in the end.
As an audiobook, I really enjoyed that it was narrated by multiple people for the effect of the different characters. I thought the narrators were able to create a whole experience adding their own flare to the women, and really feeling the drama being played out. The ending did leave me feeling a bit better about the slow burn though! I am looking forward to reading more from Jeneva Rose in the future!
