Oh, those ladies of Buckhead, Georgia! On the outskirts of Atlanta lies the influential community of Buckhead. And within this very high profile community lives a group of women that could just as easily stab you in the back as give you a pat on the back. Around the center of it all is the Glow Salon, ran by tough but kind Jenny. Jenny knows everyone's secrets and so far she is keeping quiet. Sweet, young Crystal is the new gal, that has married the man that used to be married to the queen bee of Buckhead herself--Shannon. Sides are being taken! Olivia is the one you have to watch out for-she is ready to take the seat as the new queen of Buckhead and she'll stop at nothing to get this ticket!
The plot is told in an addictive Dallas-soap opera style that will draw in readers. Readers will love to hate Olivia and find a true friend in Jenny. The audiobook is narrated by a full cast of very talented women, making this a truly delightful experience.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced listening copy of this title in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book. What I really liked was the multiple narrators for the POVs. I think that really helped with the audiobook. For me personally, I feel that audiobooks don't get as high of a rating for me than regular print editions, so my rating isn't as high as I would anticipate. I would like to rate this 3.75 stars instead of 3. The story is definitely show worthy and I love the drama throughout the novel. It kind of reminds me of a Big Little Lies series! Book was written well. I hope it becomes a show!
The Review
This is one of the best thrillers I’ve read so far this year. The dialogue and multiple POVs of this read have driven forward a mystery that feels both authentic and surprising all at once. The ways in which these women interact with one another, and the choice to focus solely on the women’s POV and leave the male characters as wildcards was an inspired and satisfying choice for the story. Getting the chance to see the shocking twists and turns not only in the story, but in the shocking bonds these characters form with one another was such a great hook for readers to get invested in the narrative.
Honestly, this is one of the first books in years in which I was totally surprised by the book’s ending. I love stories like this that make me guess the killer’s identity early on, only to change my opinion several times over the course of the narrative. I had thought I’d figured out the twist until the final few pages when everything flipped on top of its head. What helped this mystery was the identity of the victim, which was kept hidden until the final few chapters of the book. Not knowing this kept the motivations and agendas presented from each of these characters’ POVs so captivating that the real identity of both victim and killer will leave readers reeling.
The narration was so entertaining and felt like listening to a great new radio show. The narrators really brought these characters to life perfectly, and having multiple narrators taking on the individual POVs was incredible to listen to. Such a fun and exciting book that readers won't be able to stop listening to!
Oh boy did I like this book. I was captivated from the jump. The narrators did such an excellent job showcasing each individual character. This book made me feel like I was in a suspense/thriller/mystery version of GCB. Do you remember that show? Good ole Southern Belles, some with a bee in their bonnet and others motivated by money and greed. This just gave the ultimate version of that to me. The narrator of Olivia just really sold her character to me. I so enjoyed it. I didn't really see the ending coming and was thrilled when it all started coming together. The book just left so many moments of satisfaction as it wrapped up. This one was fun.
Loved listening to this novel taking ace in the rich neighborhood if Buckhead. A group of women are all members of a very exclusive salon. There is rumors, betrayal, amd murder. The narrator made the story come alive.
Great book! What a rollercoaster 🎢. I could not put it down and listened to this into the wee hours of the night. Great writing and narration. Will not hesitate to read more by the author.
I really wanted to love this one after seeing so many glowing reviews but I just didn’t. Maybe it’s because most of the characters were very likable, or maybe it’s just because I have a hard time with rich people drama. I didn’t find the ending overly surprising but it was satisfying. The narrators on the audiobook were very similar so I often had a hard time telling the characters apart.
The cast of narrators did a great job with this one! It was engaging, exciting, and they felt as catty as the book read. I LOVE a rich housewife, drama filled story. The grosser the pettiness, the better for me! This good delivered that for sure! This was a 3.5 for me that I round down to 3 on here. I think the ending felt rushed and I was expecting more of a wow factor. I loved the unlikable characters throughout the entire story though!
If you think the print version of Jeneva Rose's One of Us is Dead is fun and dishy, then you're going to want to listen to the audio version. The narrators are absolutely perfect as they flawlessly move through the snarky dialogue with just right amount of spunk. I listened to the audio version on a road trip to Canada, and I was having so much fun listening that it went by in no time! Thank you so much for the opportunity to review!
This was one hell of a fun, soapy and over-the-top thriller! I can't even count how many times I laughed out loud and the final twist completely shocked me. If you like the Real Housewives, pick this one up ASAP.
Thank you to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for early access to the audiobook of One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose in exchange for an honest review.

We're following our four main characters, Shannon, Crystal, Olivia, and Jenny (along with their husbands and a few other minor characters) as they navigate the drama and prestige of life in the upscale community of Buckhead. These women have been doused in scandal, backstabbing, and secrets for a long time, but it is all coming to a head as private lives are exposed.
This was alright. I am the first to say that I am a fun of a mama-drama thriller, but this felt a little too reminiscent of Big Little Lies and lacked originality. This plot was repetitive and predictable. The dual timeline was not well executed; it didn't serve much of a purpose and the plot would have been fine without it. The cast of characters was a few people too large.
On a positive note, I did like Jenny's perspective. She is the relative outsider in the group and had a lot to offer in terms of painting the rest of the cast in a honest and interesting light. I think I might have preferred if the entire book was told from Jenny's point of view rather than the convoluted multi-POV.
Overall, this was okay. One of Us is Dead doesn't contribute anything particularly new and innovative to the thriller genre. It is not a BAD book by any means, but it is definitely better suited to someone who is not as well-versed in the thriller genre.
Not going to lie, I picked this book because of the cover and the setting (my mother is from Atlanta, and I was born there) but again it seems like another book that gets bogged down in the middle. Maybe because each voice needed to tell their side of the story but it really started to drag for me. It was saved by the climax and the sense that justice was carried out.
I listened to the audio version of this, and honestly I'm so glad I did. The narrators did such a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life, I felt like I was in the middle of all the drama.
Though there were many different characters, their stories all intertwined with one another and you got a front row seat to all the petty, "rich bitch" drama. One of the things I really loved about this book was that from the beginning you know that someone was murdered. But you don't know who, how, or why. The story is told mainly in the past, but every so often there is a chapter sprinkled in from the present. This kept me on my toes and guessing the whole time. Often when I thought I had it figured out, something would make me second guess it. I liked how as the story progressed so did the unveiling of the events that lead to the death of one of the girls.
If you love housewife drama, this one is definitely for you! It was engaging, sassy, devious, and at times laugh out loud crazy. I highly recommend the audio, as I felt I connected with this more and got more out of the story than I would have if I read the physical copy. If you are in the mood for something quick, attention grabbing and just easy to read, I would highly recommend One of Us is Dead.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are, as always, my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this juicy, gossip heavy suspense novel. Set in a rich Atlanta suburb, the story is about a group of women (petty and not) and the lengths some will go to for love and security. It definitely had me engaged until the end. I was sneaking in listening sessions every chance I got. I also loved the gay storyline, a mom finding love unexpectedly. I will absolutely recommend this to my readers and suggest ordering it for my library!
3.5 ⭐
This was fun!
A light, interesting thriller, rich-people-problems trope, and most of it set at an exclusive high end beauty salon. Whenever you are in the mood for a juicy, gossipy, dramatic, The Real Housewives style but add murder type of book, this is your gem.
I guess I just needed a bit more of the thriller component throughout the book. There was too much cheating, and the intrigues started to feel a bit repetitive after a while. Until the very end, it had a bit too much unnecessary drama and too few dead bodies for my taste.
The ending was pretty spectacular, though. But even then, there were parts I loved, and there were parts I was like - fine, if we really have to go there. 🙄
All in all, a bit of a mixed bag for me. Still, it was a light and super fast read. Perfect for the beach or any time you just want to chill and relax.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an audio ARC of One of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose in exchange for an honest review.
The audio on NetGalley is terrible. I have discovered audiobooks from NG tend to be hit or miss on quality. Lucky for me, I snagged this one from my library and loved it! The story was great, the execution not so much via audiobook.
I loved this audiobooks, the narrators were perfect. I even liked Olivia because the audio version was simply perfect. I loved Jeneva Rose's use of blunt and raw humor to lead us in circles to figure out the mystery.
Well done!!!!!
I’ve been entering all sorts of giveaways trying to win this gem. Started it the second I was approved!
✂️ Who amongst these women will be clever enough to survive Buckhead—and who will wind up dead? They say that friendships can be complex, but no one said it could ever be this deadly.
💭 Wealthy southern housewife drama? And there’s a murder? Sign me up! I loved all the characters - loved and rooting for the good ones, and loved hating the awful ones. Buckhead is filled with drama and it was such a fun read.
Jenny, Olivia, Karen, Shannon, and Crystal - they all have secrets. Bless their hearts they ALLL come out. Highly recommend the audio version, I loved all the different voices. Can’t wait to read more by this author!
I’ve never seen an episode of The Real Housewives but I picture this book was the script for that show no doubt. The Real Housewives meets Mean Girls! 🖤Rich folk drama and I was here for it. Were the characters cringe worthy at times, spoiled other times, cruel and devious as well .... yes, yes, yes and more yes. Did I roll my eyes a few times while listening also a yes. It was a slow burn at first, full of drama, multiple narrators, cattiness, slightly over the top full of twist. If this sounds like something you’d love I highly recommend.
A huge thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for an audiobook copy in exchange for my honest review. Definitely give this one a try!!
I really enjoyed The Perfect Marriage. That was Mt first by this author. I was excited to see a new book by her.
If you love a good catty/bitchy real housewives set thriller then this one is for you. I honestly can't do that kind of thriller anymore and that my bad. I always go into a book blind so didn't know what this was about.
