I really enjoyed this second volume of Fangirl! It is very similar to the book but the art definitely adds to the story, especially in the Carry On fan fiction scenes. The growing relationship between Cath and Levi is sweet and romantic, in great opposition to her fracturing relationship with her wild sister. Reagan is, of course, amazing. My only gripe is that Levi and Simon drawings are too similar and Simon doesn't match the book description so it's a little disappointing.
Absolutely loved it!! I want to reread Fangirl all over again just to find out what happens! This is one of my all time favourites and of course the manga also does not disappoint!
I’m sad to say that I STILL haven’t read the original Fangirl novel. But I’m living for all of the Simon & Baz stories from within the manga. This definitely does make me want to pick up the book and finally read it tho.
Cath is living the dream of any fanfic author… writing about what you love. It’s just not your original characters that you write about. I haven’t read much fanfic that isn’t published as a retelling, so I don’t have the experience or knowledge about it, besides some popular books that started out that way. So it’s exciting to read about a character who loves writing it.
I really like Levi a lot! He’s so adorable and I want them to work out… in the long run. Her twin on the other hand is kinda horrible and I do not enjoy her!
I'm so happy to get to read the e-arc of this! I loved the first installment and fangirl is one of my all time favorites! This one didn't disappoint! I cannot wait to keep reading these! I love the illustrations; they capture the mood and characters so well!
Very readable. I want the next volume now since it ends on a cliffhanger! This was a funny and engaging book that made me really care about the characters.
I am biased because Fangirl is one of my favorite books of all time, but this was just delightful. Just like the first volume, this is a very faithful manga adaptation of the original. Like, very faithful. I recognized a lot of the dialogue. I was so wrapped up in the art and the story that I was upset with the cliffhanger at the end... even though I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS because, again, this is based on one of my favorite books. That's how immersed I was. I can't wait to finish out this series, and I'm so happy these have been on NetGalley!
I'm glad I got to read this follow up to the first fangirl GN. A big thank you to net galley in exchange for an honest review. This series follows the novel fairly well and I'm loving the illustrations that go with it. I hope that v3 will be just as good.
Manga adaptations are my favorite! The story works very well as a manga and keeps the pace in a very enjoyable way. The art style is great and I feel a new love for the characters in this iteration. Fantastic!
Thank you to NetGalley and Viz Media for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was an enjoyable read! I loved the original novel, but it's been a while since I read it, so it was a lot of fun to experience the story again, but through a different style.
Volume 2 picks up right were volume 1 left off. We get to see Cath come into her own a bit more, which is enjoyable. I also love seeing her friendship with Levi evolve. Wren somehow proves to be even more annoying than she was in my first read-through. Maybe it's how the story is broken up by volumes. And of course, this volume ends on a cliffhanger.
Looking forward to volume 3!
I am absolutely obsessed!! Revisiting any Levi and Cath scenario is heartwarming and reminds me how much I love both of these characters and Rainbow Rowell.
I’m already on the edge of my seat for volume three!!
The artwork is as good as the first and is able to capture emotions well. It is a faithful adaptation and would be enjoyed by not only fans of the book, but just most YA readers in general. The novel is able to condense the original without the feeling of rushing. The important events from the original are covered well and I'm looking forward to reviewing the next installment.
Fangirl is one of my all-time favorite books and seeing it in Manga form makes it all the more better. I cannot wait to read the rest of the volumes when they come out!
They did it again! I loved this one just as much as the first. These books give me such warm and cozy vibes; they are like a big hug. If you like the Heartstopper series, you will love these as well.
The second installment of the Fangirl manga was an enjoyable read! I'm finding myself not really liking Wren or Levi as much as I did in the first installment, and I find that Cath's characterization is pretty stagnant. I have not read the original Fangirl novel, but so far I think this is going to be the only way I do read it, because without the art I probably would stop at this point out of lack of interest. The art is the part that keeps me wanting more!
The art is clean and stylistically just as intriguing as the first part, Maggs does a great job with emotions and scene setup throughout.
I receive an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I still love this adaptation but it's the part of the book that had a lot more serious things going on. The art is still beautiful and on point. The story itself is getting to the halfway point of the story, somewhat.
I will say, how this volume ends, I completely forgot happened in the actual book. But when it happened, everything rushed back to me and gave me the feels all over again. I still think this is a good adaptation. There are a lot of moments where Cath is thinking and talking to herself to move the story along, but that is also how the book flows so I can understand that.
Still recommend this manga series. It brings the original text to life in a new and beautiful way. I love the characters, the situations, and the meaning behind this story. Definitely keep reading. I can't wait for Volume 3!
Finally! It's been a million years since I've read the novel, but the manga is definitely hitting all the highs and lows I remember and then some...Levi and Cath especially feel more real here as they get closer...and what a place to end, siiiigh
4.5/5
Solid book 2 of 4. It’s been awhile since I read the first, but it’s pretty easy to pick back up on the story.
The art was beautiful as usual. The pace of the story was good and pretty fast-paced. I liked the continuation of the emotional aspect to Cath’s life. I like the addition of the flashbacks and seeing more into the twins’ lives and differences.
I don’t have too much to add, but I am very excited to continue reading this manga series. I’m still not really up to reading the original (cause I’m lazy) but I’m super down to finish this version of the story.
That ending tho… I’m a little mad, but that’s how they get you.
This graphic novel is a great addition to the series. It was cute and had a solid cliffhanger, and we learn so much about the characters on the page.
I love this novel and its manga adaptation is brilliant and wonderful. Volume 2 explores more of the divergent paths Wren and Cath take in college. Levi and Cath spend more time together. When Levi and Cath read Outsiders together: swoon! But the end of this one: oh man. When does volume 3 come out?
It follows the novel pretty accurately and I LOVE the manga version of Cath's fanfiction. Baz and Simon look even better in manga format! Brilliant idea.
I am LOVING this rendition of the Fangirl story.
the art is superb, the characters have even more dimension and the Simon/Baz scenes are truly works of art. As much as I am enjoying it I do wish this had been a Manga rendition of just the Carry On story. The more I read these books the more I find myself waiting for the next Simon/Baz scene and not enjoying the rest of the story as much. Still amazing though, and can't wait for the next installment!
