My favorite thing about this book is the illustrations. I really wanted to love this book, and while I do like it, it is just too long. I found my mind wandering while reading, with no real need to finish the tale. This book would have been better if it has been cut down more. This isn’t’ a literary class, it’s a picture book.
Thank you to Chouette Publishing / CrackBoom Books and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.
Julia and her animal friends are having a camping night under the stars but Julia can’t find her book. Then sailor Bertrande bear shows up and takes them on a night adventure to the night library to get a book.
I personally didn’t really enjoy this or get into the story, I thought it would be a really relaxing adventure but I just didn’t find myself escaping into this world. It was still cute and I liked the friendship between Julia and the animals and the importance of a nice book to help you feel better.
I really liked the illustrations in the book, they were really beautiful and had sweet nighttime relaxing colour tones. I did find some issues with the language in the book as there were some really long, unusual and could be difficult words for children to read.
This wasn’t really a book I would read again personally, but I’m sure others would love reading this and that some children would love the adventure with Julia and her friends.
A Starlit Trip to the Library is about a little girl who joins her friends to go get a bedtime story. The art is very cute but the story, as another reader said, made me cringe. I felt like it tried to do entirely too much in 44 pages and ended up feeling rushed. I also got really annoyed every time the bear spoke, he comes off really pretentious and heavy-handed. I know the bear is apparently the selling point to this series (I have not read the first book), but for me, he got on my nerves. KIds may not be as picky as I am, it does have a lot of action to keep the story moving, and there are educational pages in the back about animal constellations and a song with lyrics. It wasn't bad, but I've read a few books now about "animals go to the library at night" and I've seen it done better.
Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.
I love anything with bears, and anything with reading, so this was a perfect combination. The world that this child lived in seems like something I would have wanted to escape to as a child. I want Olga to be my librarian!
This book is like a big cozy hug (from a bear named Bertrand), and it's filled with pretty big words. Maybe this is for the slightly older early reader or it is something to be read together with a parent/teacher. Also, the artwork is absolutely gorgeous and feels like a magical camping trip, which I adore.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC. All opinions are my own.
This is a sweet picture book that celebrates friendship, libraries and the love of a good bedtime story!
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and I can picture little hands reaching for this book often in my elementary library.
The illustrations in this were DIVINE and really made the story that much better. I love when they make an already wonderful story even more amazing.
And this was an amazing story! It was about library books and the constellations and sharing stories together and the promise of adventure! Could not love this more than I already do. Two pages in and I knew I needed a hard copy.
The pictures over the full pages are lovely and well done. Reading the story within those colourful and whimsical drawings, really does make you feel like you are inside the story. So very well done on that department.
The story made me cringe, maybe I'm being a little harsh on a kids book, however I did not like the way the story was flowing, or the lack of it, it felt a little rushed sometimes. Eg; the crown falling in the water and how this was then saved, felt a little too easy for my liking. Then there are the boxes with books behind the library.. in the story the following is said 'the day staff think they can just throw everything together willy-nilly' (and yes, I'm aware it's a kids book) library staff wouldn't 'just' throw out everything in one big pile. It's not giving children the example of being careful with their library books (or books in general) because why would they? The staff doesn't bother either? And yes, maybe I'm harsh as it is after all a children's book, but I did not find it enjoyable to read, nor will I be reading this story to my small humans.
I did enjoy the 'animals among stars' page, as the information given to the children (and their caregivers/educators) was a very educational and clear in approach.
I give this book a 2 out of 5 stars.
This is a charming story that our family thoroughly enjoyed. It is a sweet quest for a bedtime story that kids will easily identify with. We all know you can't go to sleep without a story. The lovely illustrations show Julia's adventures with her animal friends across the sea, navigating the sky to secure a wonderful bedtime read from Olga the night librarian. The navigation guide at the end of the book is a very nice bonus, a perfect springboard for learning more about maritime adventures.
I found this to be a wonderful book, I love the illustrations, which I know the wee ones will
definitely, with out a doubt enjoy. However, it's the educational value that made it into a real
winner. Young children will not only learn about the constellations, they'll also be learning some
new words as well. Such as Cygnus for the swan and Ursa Major and Ursa Minor for the big and
little bears. They also will be introduced to the library, and find out that the librarian is there to help
them in finding just the right book, exactly the one they're looking for. All in all I recommend this title
for every child's library, both at home and in a preschool setting as well. I'm giving this terrific book a
4 and 1/2 stars rating. Happy Reading Everyone!

Gorgeous illustrations and a fun and engaging story. This book would be excellent for storytime sessions under a library theme, I believe children will really enjoy it!
While this book is longer than a read-aloud for my toddler, my young readers enjoy reading it with me and we especially love exploring the constellations.
This is such an adorable little book. Even as an adult, it made me want to take my own starlit trip to the night library - what a novel idea!!
The illustrations in this book are beautiful - an starlit trip on a raft comes to life amazingly well.
On a serious note, i love books like these - that encourage children, not only to read, but that also espouse the wonders of a library and librarians. They are a treasure to our society and help so many people to improve their reading abilities and to just escape to magical worlds.
I loved it.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me access to this book.
The illustrations in this book are so incredibly beautiful! I found myself scanning every inch of the page with each page turn. There were so many details to see and the art style will definitely be very appealing for kids. I thought that the story was cute and it was a nice way to have a short, simple adventure to follow. I can see myself reading this to kindergarteners and first graders that are just learning about the library and get really sucked into the illustrations. Overall, I think that this book would be a nice addition to any elementary library.
Loved this book because the story revolves around the constellations. I really enjoy looking at the stars at night and have since I was a child. Kids will love all the adorable animals who befriend Julia. They are having a good time camping out when another friend drops by. Love the assortment of animals as it gives the impression of how diverse our own friends should be.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I received an electronic ARC from Chouette Publishing through NetGalley.
Adventure, camping, river voyages, library visit - Katz blends all of this to share with readers. Julia is camping out with her forest friends when she realizes she forgot the bedtime story book. Fortunately, her friend Bertrand offers help and they all journey to the library. The wise librarian finds the perfect book and everyone settles in to listen to the story as they journey back. I appreciate the information on constellations and navigating by the stars seamlessly woven in.
Charming story to delight younger readers. They will love the brightly colored illustrations that clearly show the energy and action as the text reveals what happens next on their trip. Don't miss the QR code at the end to hear the song written to go with the story.
I really like books about books so I knew I would enjoy this one! The art and details are really nice, and I really enjoyed how quirky the characters were.
Julia is back in a new book! She's on a camping trip with done woodland friends, when she discovered she doesn't have a book to read at bedtime! Luckily, her bear friend, Bertrand, happens upon them on his way to the library, and she and her woodland pals get to tag along
This book is simply beautiful. The illustrations are bright, colorful, and gorgeous. The characters are cute and I do love a book about getting more books. The owl librarian is really leaning into the usual cartoon character stereotype, but she's pleasant and not snooty, so I can appreciate that.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy via NetGalley in return for sharing my thoughts on this book. Thanks to the author and publisher for this opportunity!
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A cute picture book about a fun trip to the library. A bit on the longer side, but it could be read by an adult.
