Lovely illustrations that cover a wide variety of family types. A good introduction for children, and a starting point for parents to explain different family dynamics.
Includes same sex parents, trans parents, adoptive families, foster families, single parents, grandparents raising their grandkids, disabled parents, and even a couple who never had children. All simply told at a child’s level of understanding, including a couple of comments from our narrator that they don’t understand everything.

All the Families in My Town, is stunning! I cannot say enough good things about this book. The illustrations were breathtaking, the message was fundamentally important, it's written in a way adults and children will both appreciate, and honestly, it touched my heart.
This book is essential because it raises awareness of families and the diversity of ALL people. It's crucial to start this for children at a young age, so they will grow to be accepting and understanding with the knowledge that not all families look the same. It will create meaningful conversations with your children or students. I will be adding this to my classroom.
It gives a message that families come in many different ways, but each is special.
Thank you to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this unique book. I definitely recommend it.
THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE! THIS IS SOMETHING I WANT MORE OF! More stories for children explaining and showing different family structures! There is no such things as a ‘one size fits all’ family, I mean, that is not even accurate for clothing! Let alone for human beings!! Yes are are all human, but that is at far, as that one goes. I’m absolutely loving this, everything is explained from Aria’s (child’s) perspective, which makes this so much better, more relatable for kids. I really hope this will become a standard book at schools, libraries and other educational settings! The illustrations have a ‘painted on’ vibe in warm colours, making each and every page feel like a painting! My favourite page is the ‘sleep over’ page, the way the colour blend and get the message across is a work of art by itself.
This book is a perfect way to illustrate differences in family and make these difference understandable to all. It does it in such a way as to be open with concepts and ideas some may find troublesome but shouldn’t. A family is a family, and they are all different in all types of ways. And the artwork, while done in washes of yellows and browns, are at once classic and old fashioned while still being fresh and new. All over this book was excellent and should be on all library shelves.
This book is perfect! I absolutely adored not only the artwork but the writing as well. The author and illustrator did such a good job of high lighting diverse families and people. This blew my expectations. I cannot wait to buy this book.
First of all, I am so in love with the illustrations in this book. The colour story and the whimsical lines are so appealing. I just love everything about it. Moreover, the story itself is so, so, SO important. Families can look very different, and as a child you may not always know that there are other families who are similar to yours (or completely different, for that matter). The representation is fantastic. I wish there was more.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC. All opinions are my own.
I absolutely loved this book! All the characters have their own story, not to mention the amazing illustrations. There is amazing representation of not only different races but also queer and disabled parents. I will definitely be buying the physical copy for my nephew. Thank You so much for giving me the opportunity to read such an amazing book here on net galley.
This was a very lovely children's story about a little girl and her family and all of the other families in her neighborhood.
The story does a very good job of showing a diverse group of families, from a little girl with two moms, a family that only has a dad, foster parents, a blended family, and even an older couple who never wanted children (which the author makes a point of explaining is an okay thing to want too!). And not only are there different kinds of families but different kinds of people for a wide variety of representation.
The art style is very fun and unique and I think it worked really well with the story!
At the end of the book there is a note for parents about how the book is meant to start a dialogue with their kids about how kids can come from all different kinds of families and questions they could ask which I thought was a good addition.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chouette Publishing for making this available in exchange for an honest review!
Super cute! I love the art style and the text is lovely. It does a really good job of making it accessible and easy to explain different family concepts and start conversations with kids about it.
A stunning book that really made my children appreciate the world and people around them. The illustrations and colours used in the book are gorgeous and I found my children really focused in on them.
that book was so beautiful and I absolutely adored reading it, I love all the diverse families that were introduced to us, the illustrations were absolutely delightful !
This was a cute picture book with plenty of diversity and representation for all. And not anything beyond that. I loved the art, I loved the diversity but it was literally just a list of people and then that was it. No plot or story there; it almost felt half-finished.
Beautifully illustrated book full of love and warmth. I especially loved the spreads about adoption and a couple with no kids. It might be just about nine houses, but it's a good reminder that we are all in this together.
This book is seriously beautiful! I LOVE the illustrations, the color, the design of the book, everything. And I love the story as well, how it shows us that there are different types of families, the innocence of children, and how accepting we can be if we just become more aware and open-minded.
Ten families, ten different views of what makes a family (love) all beautifully done in words and illustrations. It shows us that different is wonderful, too.
Ariane Caldin fills the pages with colorful, creative illustrations which add even more love and meaning to this book.
Robin Bright has brilliantly translated this book into English from the French (Canadian).
Read it WITH a child! Then get one for your local library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Chouette Publishing/CrackBoom! Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
I wouldn't typically read a children's book but I seen the cover of this on NetGalley and thought the illustrations looked beautiful. When I realised that it was a children's book I thought, lets give it a try.
'All the Families in My Town' is a short book about the different types of diverse families that exist - your standard 'nuclear family', divorced families, single parent families, adopted families, couples without children and so on. I thought that it was well crafted in a fun, appealing way and although many would probably say that books like this are preachy, I felt as though this one would be a very effective way to teach younger children that every family is different, and it doesn't have to be a big deal.
The illustrations inside were just as beautiful as the cover, if not more so. They were vibrant and appealing; exactly what you would want from a book aimed at this demographic. I really loved the warm colours used throughout the book and think any child would enjoy looking at these pictures.
What a lovely book it was😍. I'm so glad that I picked this book. This book introduces us to different types of families in Aria's village and shows that Aria is happy having them in her village. The concept of the book is unique and it'll help the children to discover the different types of families in reality and the illustrations of this book was too cute.
Thanks to Netgalley and Chouette publishing for giving me this lovely E-ARC.
Beautiful illustrations and a great story that introduces young readers to a full array of different family dynamics. A good learning resource for children.
All the families in our town shows how unique and diverse our neighbours can be. This is a snapshot on what could be going on in others lives, and is a good tool to show how different we all are.
The illustrations really stand out to me there is so much going on and so much to look at. The orange and blue flow throughout giving flow and movement to the book. A must in every library.

Don’t you just love seeing families full of love and joy? This kid’s book shows how diversity and representation are both normal and beautiful parts of life. Each illustration is a celebration of sharing your life with others (even if you do not want children).
A girl lives with her two moms in a small village, so small that there are only nine houses. She shows us around, introducing us to the different families, telling us each home contains an entire universe. There are families who always have the most delicious food cooked by a single father, a couple who are older, very much in love, and never wanted to have kids, a trans dad showing pictures to his daughter, blended, a foster and an intergenerational family dancing, playing cards and planting flowers, and a father in a wheelchair who loves playing tennis.
It is always a challenge when writing about diversity to ensure it’s neither too educational or too one-dimension. I think by showing people’s hobbies, their interactions, their happiness, and love, there is quite a good balance! It’s a relaxing and cheerful bedtime story, and many children enjoy meeting new people, even if it’s through a book. What do you think?
The illustrations are amazing too. I love the use of orange, which makes all the pictures so warm and lively. This is further strengthened by the flowing contours and shapes within each page. It’s truly impressive how Ariane Caldin made the skin colors shine through, even though they have such a sunny hue.
