This book was so freaking delightful! I loved every second that I was reading it. A Merry Little Meet Cute had spice, emotion, humor, quirky loveable characters, and Christmas themed strip clubs. It was just so much fun to read.
The story is set against the backdrop of the creation of a Christmas themed historical romance movie for a squeaky clean network. A freak accident leaves the movie without a heroine and many crew members. The movie’s producer has a (relatively secret) past in porn production, and with the film at risk, he decides to bring in some of his porn industry friends to save the day. Hijinks ensue, and it is absolutely hilarious.
The hero is Nolan Shaw, a former boy bander who’s manager took all his money and is trying to rehab his image and restart his career. He has a sick mother and teenage sister to worry about. Our hero is Bee Hobbes, a plus sized porn star who goes by the name Bianca Von Honey. She had a major crush on Nolan when she was younger. Bee is excited to have her shot in a mainstream movie role, and is trying to hide her porn past. Interestingly enough, Nolan immediately recognized her and is a huge fan of hers as well.
The characters really shine in this story. I love how layered Bee and Nolan are, and I love how they compliment each other. Their relationship could compromise the movie, and the forbidden aspect raises the already delicious tension. I also love each of their relationships with their families and how sex positive everyone is. The side characters in this book truly shine. They open so many doors for future books, and I want to explore each and every one.
I highly recommend this book!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! This is a spicy holiday romance with a lot of heart. The characters are fully fleshed out and authentic while having not-so-average carreer backgrounds and their chemistry is lovely. Bee is a saucy MC and Nolan is the ML misunderstood boy band bad boy. It's fun, romantic, and heart-warming (with some steam).
I am already a huge fan of Sierra Simone’s work but this is my first-time reading anything written by Julie Murphy. I must admit that I do love the concept of this storyline.
Bee and Nolan have been pining for each other for a number of years, and now they find themselves co-staring in a movie that is the opposite of their public images. Bee is fun and confident and I enjoyed witnessing her interactions with others. There are some lovely steamy scenes involving Nolan and Bee – and not necessarily when they are together. I would have liked to have seen more of their feelings for each other developing - their declaration of love seems to happen a little too quickly for my liking and I didn’t always feel any connection outside of the bedroom between them. I would have liked a greater amount of depth to this storyline too, and maybe I would have enjoyed this novel more if it had been written solely through Bee’s POV 🤷
It took me quite some time to connect with the story and its characters. I enjoyed the second half of the book much more than the first, but even then, I skimmed reading through the final few chapters. I did enjoy elements of this story but I wish I could say that I loved it overall.
I award A Merry Little Meet Cute 2.5 stars.
Julie Murphy and Sierra SImone have hit it out of the park with this title. Sexy, very sexy, engaging characters, believable storyline. It's a winner.
This author combination is a dream duo of mine! I knew i had to have this a could not wait until the Holidays to read. So adorable and atmospheric! This romance and banter had me cheering and flipping out every single page! One of my new favorite books!!!! EASY 5 STARS!!!!!!!!
I had lots of fun with this one. I seem to be loving all the Christmas romances lately and I’m here for it. This premise was unique and I loved it: As this was my first read by both authors, i didn’t know what to expect.
Have been a fan of Slerra while new to Julie, A Merry Little Meet Cute is sweet, funny, light with heart warming mild angst and absolutely filthy smegsi.
From how i laugh so hard at Bee and her bestie, Sunny pack up her toys for a gigs.
From how i swoon and sigh with my heart thumping for the stage kiss, Nolan and Bee's first kiss.
From how i got so wet with their super steamy smegsi scenes
From how i feel Bee and Nolan when they were cornered by the press and judgie netizen.
I love this book!
Did I stay up all night because I simply HAD to finish this book?
Yes.
Would I forego any amount of sleep for the foreseeable future in order to read it again for the first time?
Also yes.
It's no secret that Sierra Simone is an automatic buy for me. I always enjoy the way she can write a story with a heavy plot line while weaving her signature style of spice into the story so when I saw she was teaming up with Julie Murphy to create a Christmas themed rom-com, I simply knew I had to check it out.
And let me tell you, this book delivered!
A Merry Little Meet Cute manages to create main characters you'll love, opens a honest conversation around heavy topics such as mental health and the legitimacy of sex work, has several laugh out loud moments, and sprinkles in just the right amount of spice.
And does it all in an idyllic Christmas setting!
Everyone needs a little spice during the holiday season. Now if that line intrigues you than you may want to pick this book up. No you will definitely want to pick this book up. Bee Hobbes is a plus sized adult star who is trying to clean up her image. She agrees to be in a family oriented romance movie. But little does she know that her co-star will be her childhood crush! Her childhood crush, aka Noah. He needs this movie to boost his career again. When these two collide we are given a story that feels like a spicy, and way sexier version of a classic Hallmark holiday movie.
What I enjoyed:
- the body positivity is excellent! We need more of this in books
- LGBTQI+ representation is always welcome in any book I read.
- Dual POVs kept the book interesting. You also get a great perspective from both of their inner monologues
- Spicy, spicy scenes 🌶
- Also, it's a beautiful thing when you read a hook that is really sex positive.
Overall, this was a cute, and funny book with a bit of spice. This book is perfect for romance readers who enjoy a bit of spicy scenes. I only wish this book fleshed out the characters more. 3.5 stars out of 5!
Sex positive, body positive, LGBTQ+ positive, so much positivity. “I want to have sex with my favorite porn star” and “I want to have sex with my childhood crush” collide, and there’s just no real interest in it for me. I would have liked more depth to the characters than “living out a childhood dream.”
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC.
I really, really enjoyed this book. It hooked me from the very beginning and kept me hooked the entire time! Very sweet!
I knew when I saw that Sierra Simone and Julie Murphy were teaming up for this book that it was going to be a must read…and it is! I’m so glad I was able to read this arc!
Bee is an adult film star and her boss needs her to take a roll in a Christmas movie he is producing for a popular tv station (think Hallmark). She just has to make sure she keeps her identity hidden.
Nolan was a famous rockstar until his manager did the band wrong and left the band split up. He needs this movie role to bring in an income.
This book has angst, secrets, romance, humor, and so much spice! I loved the side characters almost as much as the two leads. And I’m going to say this now…Teddy needs his own book! I really hope we get more books by these two authors!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!!!
I really enjoyed this book!
Things I loved:
-Dual perspectives is chef’s kiss for me! I love getting to see Bee and Nolan’s individual growth as well as their intertwined journey. I also love seeing the yearning, lust, love, and angst on both sides!
-The book had a good pace, nothing ever really felt like it came to a halt.
-All the characters felt full of life and I wouldn’t mind reading spin-offs for some.
a little holiday in the spring is just what I needed. this was so cute and such a nice reading break. I actually didn't read many holiday books this past year so it was fun to get into one in may.
This is the fat, queer, sex-positive Christmas romcom of my dreams. Julie Murphy & Sierra Simone writing together is an absolute DREAM! I want more from this duo so badly. I’m going to have to find more words but HORNY CHRISTMAS PINING DELICIOUSNESS will have to do for now. But seriously. I’m at a loss for words. Bee and Nolan were too good 😭 Everyone is gay and chaos and horny.
I wanted to read this book for three reasons, duo of authors: Julie Murphy & Sierra Simone Simone, synopsis adult film star accidentally cast in family friendly Christmas movie and cover is so pretty. But do not cover fool you Bee and Nolan get steamy. Overall a sweet, holiday romance with lots of steamy chemistry.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.
The perfect blend of sweet and spicy! This book was so perfect. I loved all the characters. Filming a Christmas movie in Vermont!? With a rag tag group of people!? Where everything is Christmas themed!? I'm hooked. I want to know everything about everyone and I SO look forward to Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone teaming up again!
I've been in a reading slump lately and this lovely little Christmas package pulled me right out of it!
Sexy, curvy adult performer Bianca Von Honey (using an alternate name) gets cast in a sweet little (ahem ULTRA CLEAN) holiday movie opposite her boy band crush Nolan Shaw. Turns out, he's a big fan of Bianca.
Both of them are trying to turnover new leaves and are depending on this movie to help. What could possibly go wrong?!?
I'd give this one four peppers on the steam factor (it gets steamy), perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Alice Clayton.
I loved this book. It's a romance but it's not your typical romance story. I loved the chemistry between Bee and Nolan. I liked how open Bee was with herself and that added more to her character. I always hope for a happy ending in a book and this one didn't disappoint. I would definitely recommend this book.
I am sure I don't need to tell any readers that a book by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone is amazing. This story features all the classic tropes (secret identity, “reformed” bad boy, and quirky supporting casts to name a few) melded with a sex-positive romance centering a plus-sized heroine. The story manages to be hilarious, heartfelt, a little angsty and very, very, sexy all at once. The super-meta aspect regarding “cheesy romances” played out in a spicy contemporary against a manufactured historical romance…this was solid gold! Add this one to your holiday reading list as soon as possible.
