There were parts of this book that I liked, but overall it wasn't one that resonated with me. Mia is vacationing in Hawaii to move on from a breakup. She meets the owner of her AirBnB, John and there is immediate sparks. I thought Mia was sweet and I did like John, but his story just felt a little too forced. He went from being a "recluse" with severe PTSD, night terrors, and depression to venturing out in public, cracking jokes, and mostly coming out of his shell all because of his "connection" with Mia. While I was pleased that he was able to find his way out of the depression, it all seemed a little too cut and dry. Very much check all the boxes, tie it up with a bow, and all is well. I just don't think it's as simple as the author made it out to be.
Overall, a promising idea but just too many holes in the story for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Megan Reinking for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The Ohana Cottage - Megan Reinking
๐ After a fresh breakup, Mia decides to go to Hawaii and rent a cute little place on Ohana Cottage for a month. She is determined to move on and take some time for herself. ( until she met the love of her life )
๐ John is the owner of the cottage. An army veteran , dealing with his fair share of trauma from his time in the war. He has lived through a lot of difficult things to the point of not being able to be outside and be surrounded. Which is very normal for a person with such an experience. Itโs not easy in everyday life to overcome such ordeals. He's hell bent on keeping to himself and shutting everyone out. Until Mia. ( well , itโs impossible to resist her )
I loved following Mia and John's story. A couple totally opposed to each other.
๐ She's outgoing, adventurous and chatty.
๐ He's broody, quiet and standoffish.
But together they make a very nice couple. I also really liked the character of Paige. ( maybe we will have a sequel with Matt ๐ )
โ๏ธ Itโs a book that makes us have a good time, a breath of fresh air. Easy to read and makes us want to take a ticket to Hawaii right away. The romance is beautiful & enjoyable. The atmosphere of this book is great. The author tackles serious topics but handles them in such a way that the book stays light.
๐ This is the first time I have read a book by Megan Reinking. The writing is fluid. She managed to transport us with her characters to this dream destination.
I would certainly read the sequel of this series which in my opinion is very promising.

The Ohana Cottage is a lovely story about Mia and John. Mia had recently broken up with her long-term boyfriend and desired a gateway trip. Thus she gathers her belongings and embarks on the trip to Hawaii which she has always dreamed of doing. She rents off The Ohana Cottage from John.
John and Mia are complete opposites. Mia is a very extroverted and vocal person, but John is not. John, on the other hand, is an Army veteran who is dealing with post-traumatic stress. As a result of his trauma, he isolates himself from the rest of the world. But Mia, being Mia, gradually assists John in re-engaging in a variety of activities and supporting him in starting to open up. They even begin to fall in love with each other.
However, dating someone who has experienced trauma can be challenging. What will happen between them?
Although this book is predictable, so are dozens of others, it is a delightful and short read. Definitely recommend reading๐
This was a beautiful love story, two people coming together unexpectedly and each with their own baggage who connect over time. I loved it! So beautifully written. Highly recommend
This was a nice, quick romance to read and I really like the grumpy-sunshine trope. I would say itโs a โlightโ read as well, except there is some heavy discussion of Johnโs PTSD after coming back from deployment 6 months before the book started. Overall, a very nice story, and I really want to stay at the cottage by the ocean ๐
This story was sweet, but fairly predictable. There wasnโt a whole lot to it, and I felt like it lacked a bit of substance. I really liked the characters, and I liked that Mia became a safe place for John, but the dialogue felt a bit off and I couldnโt stand the way Mia spoke most of the time-it made her seem so much younger! Overall this was a cute story and a really easy read, but it wasnโt anything special.
TW: PTSD and depictions of combat.
I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
The blurb, title and cover caught my attention and hooked me in. I REALLY wanted to love this book but sadly I was disappointed. The plot is sweet and predictable (which isn't always a bad thing!) but sadly I found the book to miss any substance. The dialogue was strange to me despite finding the characters themselves decent. There was quite a bit of rambling (dialogue wise) and it just didn't feel natural to me.
On the flipside; it's a quick read and I still enjoyed the plot.
The Ohana Cottage by Megan Reinking was a joy to read!
Mia just got fresh out of a breakup. And desperately needs to get away. From Minnesota to Hawaii.
In comes John who is Army veteran, he's dealing with his own personal issues from being in the war. He's on a quest to recharge... Until, his new tenant, who happens to be Mia, shows up wanting to rent his cottage.
She is what he needs, and slowly she starts breaking down barriers he wanted to stay up!
Geez, what A charming, sweet romance novel! Sorta make me think of a Nicholas Sparks book.
Written really well and kept me up reading half the book!
I was so engaged with the storyline throughout the book.
The characters are amazingly developed and I couldn't have enjoyed them more than did.
โI voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.โ

A quick, easy and cute read that I finished quickly. Well developed characters that I loved that helped the plot move along easily. I found the plot a bit predictable but I think a lot of the books in this genre are and it didn't alter the enjoyment of reading the book.
A cute story but not a lot of substance - I didnโt really get hooked to the plot. I loved the characters themselves and they were really likeable ! The locations were well thought out and โsupporting charactersโ in the cafe were intriguing with good back storiesโฆ but I got bored reading until the end because the plot was so predictable! A sweet summer read if you want something short to read.
