Sweet and fun read. Grumpy sunshine set in Hawaii? Immediate yes for me! The perfect book to grab and read on the beach. You’ll love it
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for this box in exchange for a review.
I really liked this book, It was cute and the perfect thing to read when the weather is cold outside. I did feel like the pacing was off in some places but I really loved reading this book. I really loved the characters and I thought the dual POV was the perfect way to tell this story.
Overall this is another great book for readers that are new to the romance genre and want something closed-door instead of spicy.
Love this sweet romance and story set in Hawaii. I don't think I read many books set in Hawaii. I going to have to change that,
I read this book really fast. The story was entertaining even if it is clichè. Even though I find it difficult to understand the moving across the country for someone, I could let it slide for Mia and John. I understood they fell in love and they made each other better and I'm glad how the book ended. 4/5
This was a simple and cute romance, I do feel like it dragged on too long and the stakes were low. It is giving Hallmark
This was such a cute read! I loved it. I also loved the setting of it and i would recommend it to any romance read lover!
Very quick short read! It was enjoyable, if completely predictable. Would still recommend for a light fun read.
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review
The Ohana Cottage was a fun and quick grumpy/sunshine, fake dating summer read. I have to be honest I didn't love it like I expected to, it was good but not amazing. It felt like a written Hallmark movie which was gushy, predictable, and a little cheesy.
A book that can take me to Hawaii will always go to the top of my list. This is the perfect summer escape and I loved the authors way of writing!
3/5 - Available on Kindle Unlimited
So this was a very cute, sweet, grumpy (but more just quiet) and sunshine vacation romance. I WISH there was spice because the relationship was just pretty boring without it IMO. The plot was very simple and predictable, but that didn’t make it bad, just not great.
Brief Plot: Mia is handling a break-up with a vacation to Hawaii, and is renting John’s cottage house. He’s incredibly quiet, and after a pretend relationship with Mia for her mother and best friend, the two start to spend more time together and chemistry is there. But with Mia’s departure imminent and John still not opening up, is their relationship more than just a fling?
Thank you NetGalley and Megan Reinking for an eARC copy of The Ohana Cottage. This is my honest review!
I loved the representation in this story as well as the vaction vibes it gave me. It was a really fun & quick summer read. I always enjoy a grumpy/sunshine & fake dating trope. The ending felt a little rushed but a fun read overall.
This book transported me to Hawaii and I could picture everything in the book. I loved Megan's descriptions of the area. Everyone has been Mia and and i could feel her pain but I also was so proud of her for dealing. This book is a cute romance read
This book started out as a cute romance and a nice easy read but I wasn’t a fan of the drama near the end that honestly felt forced and unnecessary. It also seemed like things were rushed after that to get to the ending. The first 20 chapters of the book were great and I loved getting to read about the characters, especially Hazel, but I was disappointed in the ending.
The Ohana Cottage by Megan Reinking makes a great summer read for lounging by the pool, its quick, upbeat and a really easy read. I requested this on NetGalley purely for the cover, not having heard anything else about it, and often that can go very wrong for me. Luckily this time it didn't and I whizzed through The Ohana Cottage in two quick sittings.
I liked the characters, even if at times Mia was a little bit over the top for me. I would have liked to learn more about John and his past, especially as we didn't hear much about it until quite close to the end. Maybe this is just because I'm not American but I often find the way being in the military is talked about in books can be quite cringy. At times I found that to be the case, particularly early on in the story when Mia first learnt about John's past. Having said that I think serving in the military is much less common here and not viewed in the same way as it is in the US so mybe that is a normal reaction. I think instead I would have liked the book to delve further into John's time in the military so we could understand him more.
My main struggle with this book is that it read like a movie. As I was reading it I couldn't help but feel like it had been written to be adapted for the screen, not written to just be a book. I don't know how to explain in words exactly why, but something about the pacing and the scenes really gave me the feeling of a romance movie specifically.
Overall I found The Ohana Cottage and perfectly good summer read, or purhaps something to bring you out of the January blues a little bit. It was quick and easy, with nothing too triggering or upsetting either. A good light-hearted book for sitting by the pool or laying on the beach.
Tropes: grumpy sunshine, holiday romance, fake dating.
This book made me want to go on holiday SO BADLY. Also, I really appreciated the inclusion of PTSD rep.
My issue with this book is that it focused more on telling than showing. No matter how much the author tells me they have chemistry, if I can't see it I don't believe it. Also, so much attention was given to tiny details (do I really need to know what they ordered in great detail every time they ate???).
Overall, the premise and vibes were good, but the writing let it down a bit.
Thanks to NetGalley and Megan Reinking for the free arc in return for an honest review.
Another cute summer read! The book follows Mia, who decides to go on vacation to Hawaii after her breakup with her ex.
“I’m not crazy like my friends and family said. It’s totally normal to fly nine hours by yourself to escape an ex and spend an extended amount of time on a reset, right? Yup, totally normal.”
Some of the thigs I loved about the story , it has grumpy/sunshine trope, forced proximity, fake dating.John and Mia are complete opposites and compliment each other, Mia is extroverted and John is an introvert, and she brings him out of his shell..
DNF'ed
Maybe I just couldn't get into it, maybe
But really. No
I expected a lot from this book
The beginning didn't grab my attention.
🥺😭
Thank you NetGalley for letting me read this. It was an enjoyable and fast read. I read it on a rainy day and it transported me to the sunshine. Would definitely recommend.
Great summer read. Very enjoyable.
I received and ARC from NetGalley, and this review is entirely my own.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to review this ARC.
I loved the cover for this novel the moment I saw it!
The premise had all I was looking for in a summer read.
This is a great summer read.
It was a great book but I did have some issues with Mia she was at times a little too much. But I loved
John so much that I can over look that. His PTSD was handled in such a great way.
Overall this was a great read!
