I really loved reading this book. It's a lovely romance. I think it's also a great way for people to start with romance because it's a quick read.

Short romance about a girl who just needs a break from life, and goes to clear her mind in Hawaii. She meets John, a quiet owner who also had some haunting past memories which he has to work through.

The story was way too short, and I really would have liked a lot more backstory. I couldn’t get invested into either of the characters or believe the chemistry because it felt too quick. The writing style also had me skimming.

Not for me- but if you like a cute romance with no thinking needed this book is for you!

Ah, I had high hopes for this book and whilst it did have some pros - very easy to read, summery and soft - I did think there were a few issues for me.

Firstly, the main character was ridiculously annoying. This distracted me so much from the story, as I just couldn't be bothered reading about her. Secondly, it was too slow paced and repetitive. I found myself wanting to just skip ahead to the ending. I was bored and didn't connect with this.

So many people loved this book, but it just wasn't for me.

This was a great summer getaway. Definitely felt like i was there at the beach and Ohana Cottage and felt quite warm and homely. While it felt like this

Mia the main character was quite insufferable at some points. It felt very her way or the highway in what she said and did. I felt that took a-lot away from what the story was about. I would love to have seen maybe more about Mia getting over Sean. Maybe it was there i might of missed but yeah.

That one line i dislike in every book “I finally release the breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding.” This is on me but i just don’t get this line.

Johns character i loved. I liked the way his PTSD and his time in the military was handled and talked about, it felt genuine. I didn’t like the way Matt and Mia would share information about his time though with other people that didn’t necessarily know him just of him. It felt invasive to be sharing information which even John probably trusted them with.

It dragged a bit also felt quite repetitive in some parts doing the same activities and that. I didn’t feel quite connected to the characters also.

I think the ending of this saved it. It felt a nice way to end it. To allow John to know that it is okay to ask for help even when you feel you don’t need it and i liked how Mia never once gave up on him before she left and when he came back for her.

As this was a debut novel for Megan i am excited to see where she goes from here. I would definitely pick up a book of hers in the future if it catches my eye like this one did.

I really enjoyed this book and learning more about Mia and John. This book also made me miss hawaii and want to return again soon :)

This book was ok. I went into it expecting hallmark with a dash of lifetime but instead I got c-span. I was bored, I didn’t connect or care about either character. I liked that the author addressed PTSD in very understanding way but the notion the a women he barely knows can help him “work through” his PTSD in the time she’s on vacation felt insulting at best. This one is a skip.

Very sweet story about how a girl (Mia) helps an army vet overcome his PTSD, and eventually fall in love. I really enjoyed this book and it's a great summer read!

The Ohana Cottage is a great pool or beach read. The story takes place in Hawaii making it perfect for summer reading. The story follows Mia who is taking solo trip to Hawaii after a breakup. There she meets John, who is suffering from PTSD following his return home after his most recent tour from Iraq. Mia tries to help John overcome his PTSD as they grow closer throughout her trip. One aspect I really appreciated about this book was that it didn’t brush over the challenges of being in a relationship or caring about someone who is suffering with PTSD or is closed off and struggling mentally. I thought Mia and John were adorable and I enjoyed their relationship journey throughout the book.

The book was short so I felt like there wasn’t time for their relationship to completely develop in the way I would have liked. I think a longer book also would have allowed for John’s mental health struggles to be discussed and fleshed out a little more. But even with the current length of the book it was still an enjoyable read. The short length makes it fast and easy to get through making it a great summer beach read.


Overall, this was a 3.75 for me.

I really enjoy reas this book!!!

I was unable to finish this book after trying for a month. I loved the concept of going away on vacation and falling in love just like any other romance reader. The writing style feels like you are being told pin points and not being drawn into a story. Everything felt distant and sterile. I didn’t read past 54% because this story and/or author did not make this story engaging.

The Ohana Cottage is the first book in the new Hawaiian Getaway Series... and what a fun start to the series it was.

When Mia rents a cottage in Hawaii to get away after a breakup, she finds herself falling for the handsome but broody cottage owner John. This cute romance is perhaps a little bit predictable at times (think Hallmark-like), but oh so enjoyable nonetheless. The chemistry between the two was great and though it tackled some heavier topics like PTSD from military service in a way that didn't sugarcoat, it still remained a fun, light-hearted read overall. I really enjoyed it.

Because I do typically review mostly Christian fiction (or otherwise more squeaky clean) reads, it's important to note that this does have some language, and behind closed doors love scenes. While it is clear what has happened, no in depth details are given beyond heavy kissing. It's cleaner than many mainstream romances, but definitely not one for younger audiences. While I could have done without the language myself, I still found myself enjoying the story overall and will look forward to reading more from this series and author.

This book follows Mia as she takes a much needed extended vacation in Hawaii after breaking up with her longtime boyfriend. There she meets handsome but troubled, John who owns the Airbnb she is renting.

They quickly hit it off after a brief fake-dating scenario.

What I appreciated about the book is that is doesn’t brush over the challenges of being in a relationship with someone that is closed off and dealing with a lot mentally. There were moments I was worried Mia was just going to sacrifice her own happiness for John’s but it didn’t take that turn, thankfully.

If you like your romances very sweet with no spice this is for you. An easy beach read.

The dual point of view of this book took some getting used to, but it was fun to get into the heads of both characters. This was a fun, quick read that I literally read in one sitting. The setting was charming and still makes we want to jet off to Hawaii. If you like opposites-attract romances, you'll love this story.

First of all, location location LOCATION! I am obsessed with Hawaii and coincidentally, the book begins when the MC (Mia) takes off on a solo (eat pray love-esque) Hawaiian adventure which I did back in April. This instantly connected me to the MC and the story.

Mia and John’s love was really sweet and the way they meet just makes it better. However, because the book is so short, it doesn’t feel like enough time for their relationship to develop. The conflict between the two characters felt a bit forced - like, really? Is this really something you can’t work through right here and now?

I also felt that the mental health representation was important and well done.

Ultimately, quick easy read and would make for a really good beach read or for a reader looking to escape to Hawaii!

I liked the setting of the book and that we got some classic tropes such as grumpy x sunshine and a little fake dating.

Overall I did need a lot more of everything, both the characters and the storyline. I just didn't connect with the characters and wasn't very invested in their story. But maybe that's because it was very short so there wasn't much time to properly get to know the characters. The writing style as well was not for me and I wasn't a fan of the internal dialogue.

John and Mia. Yin and Yang. Peanut butter and jelly. This book was so wonderful. I was consumed with it from the moment I read Mia goes to Hawaii. 🌺 It was everything I could ask for in a book. Forehead kisses and papaya and picnics 🧺 by the pool and surfing in the ocean. I was back in Hawaii with this book. 🌊🌊🌊

Mia breaks up with her long time boyfriend and comes to Hawaii 🏝 for a few weeks to clear her mind. John owns the cottage she is renting and lives right next door and they become quick friends. When their friendship turns into short term fake dating, they start to see the two of them may be perfect for eachother in the way complete opposites can be. But there’s always a little catch.

The fake dating did it for me. The dual POV’s will always be my favorite. John is amazing and has the softest soul with the thickest layer to peel back first. Mia is bubbly and has a smile 😁 plastered on her face.

I loved The Ohana Cottage 🌴🌴🌴 so much and am completely ready to read anything else Megan writes! It was so good!
