Womp womp. I don't have much to say about this book other than it was just okay. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad, it just... Was. I felt like we were told a lot of the plot without actually SHOWING the characters experiencing it. This writing style always leaves me feeling a little detached from the story, but especially from the characters. This is not to say I didn't enjoy reading this! The Ohana Cottage was the perfect park companion on a day that felt like summers already arrived! It was light and cute, just not very memorable when you read as much as I do, unfortunately!

It’s a five star from me. This book was so dreamy and full of genuine love that I can’t help but be the new biggest fan of this book. Will I be buying it once its officially published? You can 110% bet I will be.

The way that Mia goes on her dream vacation after a breakup, alone, is incredible. You go out there and live your life to the fullest. Enter John Byrd. Former military, broody and gorgeous in all the right ways. Its a grumpy meets sunshine in the most beautiful place on earth - Hawaii. How can one not fall in love?

We get to watch Mia and John’s friendship grow into something more (due to a little sprinkle of fake dating - we love to see it) and it is so heartwarming. Of course there is the inevitable conflict that comes up that breaks the lovers apart, but we are left with a happy ending for the two of them when the book comes to a close of course.

This book was wonderful to read and I cannot wait to hold the physical copy in my hands!

This book was very cute and sweet although very repetitive. Most of the book was just them going to the beach, going to get something to eat, going to the cafe, swimming in the pool, eating dinner. etc. So after a while, I just started skimming. I feel like there were also many unnecessary details added to the books that just wasn't pertinent to the story.

If you're looking for a cute summery clean romance that you can read in a matter of a few hours, this is the book for you.

Mia heads to Hawaii to process a breakup and meets John, a veteran suffering from PTSD, and their chemistry quickly ignites. This was a cute rom-com, set in beautiful hawaii, that had great characters and a good plot. The spice in this book was the best minimum rated PG-13 spice I have read.

The Obama Cottage was a solid 3 star read for me. I wanted to like it so badly but it didn’t feel like the characters got the depth that I needed to be invested in their stories. The side characters were all decent but none of them impacted the main story at all. I did really appreciate that the love interest actually went to therapy instead of relying on the mc to be the solution to all their issues. Not a bad read it just didn’t resonate with me.

I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t a super long read and wasn’t dragged out (which I’ve found in a lot of books).

Although some things the characters said were rough or the way they spoke felt like they were the other, I enjoyed the dynamic between them. The feelings felt a little rushed and wished there some more tension but given John’s character and own struggles, I don’t think it would’ve felt right. The balance and pace seemed good and I would read again.

Considering this is her first book, it’s really good! (I’ve read my own first book and others and I can tell you it can be really bad)

After finally closing a long-term on-again-off-again relationship, Mia takes a trip to Hawaii to figure out her next move. Her AirBnB host recently returned from military service in Iraq after experiencing tragic loss in the field.

The scenery of this story was lovely and I could feel the island vibes through the screen, but it took 70% of the book for me to feel the same way about the main characters. They were perfectly fine, but I didn’t feel drawn to them or have a specific desire to become friends with them until they experienced conflict with each other and became more realistic. They were almost too perfect - even with their flaws. I totally ship Paige and Matt, though! Would totally read that book if there was some quality banter between them.

this read is sweet (as papaya, iykyk) and swift. i really wanted to love it and i hate leaving lackluster reviews but this… wasn’t it. UGH. ok, here we go: there isn’t much to this book. it falls flat; the characters and plot are very 2d, and i struggled to care much about them. i think the problem was that we were seriously lacking in backstory as well as internal development. all the scenarios were very X and Y happened and now we have Z. black and white and nothing more, which almost kind of worked for this read? as in kept it light enough to binge in one sitting without getting involved.

the arc felt extremely quick, and the relationship didn’t really develop it just… happened? I honestly didnt understand where Mia and John’s connection came from. i can’t tell you one thing either of them have in common??? there weren’t any deep moments between them. the conversations were very surface level. and that is the exact way i’d describe this book: surface level.

rating: 3/5 because this would work if you want a book to read that you don’t *really* want to pay attention to

This is Megan's debut novel and I cannot wait for you all to read it.

Well by now we all know I am a sucker for amazingly illustrated cover art.
Initially that's what drew me to the book, along with the synopsis.

Mia travels to Hawaii & books a Air BNB, owned by John a army veteran who keeps to himself while trying to adjust to a "normal" life , to reset after an on again off again 4 year relationship.

She is the breath of fresh air that John needed to get back out there and start living again. The pair are drawn together in the way opposites always attract, she's the sunshine and he's the grumpy.

The author does also touch on the heavy subject of PTSD that John has post-deployment and I would've loved to see him work through that some more.

Overall this was a great, light-hearted read that I finished in almost one sitting. The storyline was very entertaining and fun & the characters were intriguing.

Everything in Hawaii was so good beautiful scenery, beach😍, Ocean, everything was going so great and then she meets John the cottage owner and he was so hot🔥🤭. She was shamelessly staring at him🤭.

❣and there was John he had his inner demons and didn't know how to fight them, he was suffering from PTSD from his military service.🥺😣😖

❣when John met Mia he can't help and notice Mia and observe her he was feeling some unidentified emotions toward her🥰.

❣when Mia's mom and her best friend visit her without any information and ask questions about her decisions related to her relationship and the Hawaii trip, she told them a teeny tiny white lie🤭 that she dating John.

❣so Mia is bubbly and talks a lot and makes friends instantly and there is John always grumpy, wants to be left alone but is attracted to Mia and always thinking about her and how to make her smile, does everything for her💞😍.
I love this book I couldn't put it down🌸💞.

This was a cute little summer romance story that unfortunately fell a little flat for me. There was a lot of telling, rather than showing, in the writing and not a very strong conflict or plot. Although I occasionally enjoyed picking it up every now and then, it was very forgettable overall. I do recommend if you want a light, summery read this season though!

The Ohana Cottage was a fun and easy read with a beautiful Hawaii setting. Mia and John are very sweet throughout the book.

However I felt some of the chapters lacked excitement and drive for me, felt a little slow at times. But, some heavier topics covered with the right amount of romance!

This is such a good summer holiday read! It's something which I could picture people enjoying by the side of the pool.

We follow Mia who has decided to go away to recover from her breakup and decides that Hawaii is her place to do that. I'm a sucker for anything set in Hawaii, as it's one of my favourite places in the world. I loved Mia as an MC and seeing her relationship with John develop too.

It's important to add that there are triggers to PTSD from the military, so do bare that in mind when picking this up! However, the personalities of both Mia and John compliment each other very well.

It's a nice rom-commy read and very easy to get through. However, it wasn't something mind-blowingly amazing and not very memorable. I do know I enjoyed read this though!

This was a cute summer read. I was instantly drawn in by the fact that it is set in Hawaii (My dream holiday destination!!). This story could definitely be read in one sitting (although I read it over a course of a few days). It has short chapters and dual POV which I love. It has a nice mix of character development and plot. I really liked the side characters and would have liked to have got to know them better. Maybe this will happen in future books though. I do feel the relationship between the main characters developed very quickly, so if you are looking for a slow burn romance this is not for you. There was an element of fake dating in the book but this fell a bit flat for me. But overall, it was great to read in between lengthier books/series. 3 stars.

The Ohana Cottage is a cute summer feel good love story. This was a very quick but enjoyable read. The book follows Mia and John. Mia has just gone through a break up and has decided to travel to Hawaii on her own for some time away. John is an ex military man who suffers with PTSD and is very introverted. I really enjoyed reading the romance between these two and I only wish the book had been a bit longer so we could have really seen these two develop more. The story is predictable however, that is not a bad thing to me as I love when a love story has the ending you are rooting for. Overall I rated this 3 stars.

I would also like to point out that the subject around trauma was written well and very respectfully. As someone who struggles with PTSD is was nice to read a character that I can in some way relate to whilst not setting off my own triggers. I would put out a warning to anyone who does have PTSD or trauma from military as it does have flashbacks.

The Ohana Cottage is an adorable, quick romance perfect for the summer time. Meghan Reinking chose the perfect back drop for her summer romance-Hawaii. Reading this book made me want to get some ice cream and head to the beach.

Mia is bubbly, kind, and able to make friends wherever she goes. She also rambles a lot but it’s honestly pretty endearing. John is quiet and is in his head alot. He hates crowded places and has PTSD from his time in the military. You watch him struggle to cope with what he’s been through and try to find a way to become acclimated to society again. I really appreciate the author trying to show a veterans PTSD and telling that story. I think it’s very important to have that represented in books and other forms of culture.

I flew through this novel and would say it’s perfect for anyone looking for a super quick read. I enjoyed the first 75% of it but didn’t really enjoy the conflict at the end. I expected some kind of conflict but I didn’t really like the way it went down. The end of the book felt like it kind of dragged in my opinion, although I did really enjoy the epilogue!

Overall, I thought The Ohana Cottage was very cute and gave off the perfect summer vibes with it being set in Hawaii.

So she did what any smart woman would do and rented a cottage in Hawaii to just get away. She wasn't going to discover anything except herself again and some peace, but what she ends up finding on the beach is worth so much more.

John is a retired Army veteran who suffers from PTSD from the war. He just wants to keep to himself and make some money renting the cottage on his property. Then Mia rents the cottage and he can't stay away. It's an instant opposites attract, and John can't get enough. Could Mia be what he needed all along to help start healing his wounds?
