My thanks to both NetGalley and Scribners for an advanced copy of this forensic science thriller.

The latest entry into any long running mystery series, is usually welcomed by readers not as a novel to be read, but as an invitation to a reunion that might happen once a year, sometimes a little bit longer sometimes shorter depending on the author. Readers catch up, are amazed that children are growing, sometimes in series they don't, wonder about friends and co-workers, ask about relationships and all that fun stuff. And solve a murder or two. Kathy Reichs in the twenty-first entry to the Temperance Brennan series, Cold, Cold Bones, offers quite a few bodies, and a little bit of nostalgia as past crimes and actions might be catching up to our heroine.

Brennan is joined in North Carolina by her daughter, fresh out of the army and living nearby, and while moving a box is found on Brennan's front porch, with a human eyeball inside. On the eyeball are GPS coordinates for a monastery with a macabre collection of bodies. Soon more bodies are beginning to appear, bodies that mimic cases that Brennan had dealt with in the past. Someone is targeting Brennan, and might not stop until our good forensic anthropologist is imitating a corpse on her own operating table.

The book is familiar as most series are, but with a heaviness, both of crime and violence, and of the past. This entry is also much better than the previous ones, both in the plotting and in the writing. Brennan is still sarcastic, and funny, but at about the halfway point the story hits a point where everything seems real. Even the cast, who seem rather blasé that an eyeball was in a box on her front porch, seems to catch up and go, oh wait this is real. The plot is good, and the villain makes sense, though careful readers might be ahead of the characters in figuring out who it is.

A very good story, with enough background for new readers to keep up and keep old readers flipping along. Readers learn quite abit about human anatomy, more than they might, and the characters are fun and different in ways that make them stand our. Recommended for fans of the series and the show, and also readers of Aaron Elkins' Gideon Oliver stories, Jefferson Bass' Body Farm books and Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway mysteries.

Tempe Brennan is back again in Cold, Cold Bones. Her daughter is moving back to town and Tempe is concerned that Katie is showing signs of PTSD. Before she can get a handle on Katie though, a copycat killer leaves evidence at Brendan’s front door. A twisted case unfolds with haunting earmarks of the past but for Brennan, Slidel, and Ryan the killer might be closer than they expect. Fast paced in a typical Brennan story way, the story could standalone but the characters backgrounds together would be lost. Suspense, danger, and whodunnit that is not really a surprise, mashup for an enjoyable page turner that will keep you reading late into the night. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

Another solid installment in the Temperance Brennan series. Pacing was good, with a nice mix of good guys vs. bad guys, a couple of red herrings, and an ultimate villain that was not immediately obvious, but became more so as the end of the book neared (but before the ultimate 'reveal' within the plot).

If you are a fan of the television series Bones you will enjoy this book. Even though it is the 21st in the series, and frequently refers to earlier solved crimes, this is a stand alone story.
The tale is a quick read, but the murderer was determined too easily. The plot needed a little more meat on the bones.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

A grizzly serial killer is on the loose. The killers M. O. Is to “copy cat” Temperance Brennan’s closed cases. Kathy Reich keeps the tension high from beginning to end. It is a a terrific book with vivid characters and intricate details.

Forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan is just getting to spend more time with her daughter Katie, who is home from the army, when she receives an eyeball in a package on her porch. Which leads to the discovery of a head in an outhouse, followed by a string of killings that seem to mimic crimes Brennan investigated earlier in her career. Someone is targeting Brennan, but who, and why?

This latest book is better than the previous two in the series, but the killer’s identity was fairly transparent too early in the book; learning the motive was the only reason I had to keep reading. The writing style is beginning to grate a little---a lot of repetition ("id" is an example), many very short sentences in a row (over and over and over). Recommended for die-hard Brennan fans.

After a few Bones books that were lackluster, the last two, including this one, have really been great. I hope you're ready for some suspense before you pick up this book because this one has plenty. But pay attention to those nagging thoughts, they are not as benign as they seem. The only negative I'll say is it was wrapped up a little too fast for my taste.

Thank you to the author, netgalley, and the publisher for providing me with a copy to read in exchange for an honest review.

In my opinion, "Cold, Cold Bones" was not the best in the Temperance Brennan series, but still was a pretty good read. .

Temperance or Tempe. You may know her as Bones if you watched the show. @kathyreichs produced another amazing story. Katy is home finally, Ryan (the hot French-speaking Canadian makes an entrance), and Pete is off on vacation with another woman. Typical, Temperance Brennan's story that I love because she finds herself in the middle of another crime. This series has been one of my favorites for a long time. I know when I read a Kathy Reichs book, I’ll be sucked into it and love every moment of it. If you like Bones on TV, then you will love this series.

From the moment an eyeball arrives at forensic anthropologist Tempest Brennan's home, it seems obvious that this time it's personal. Following gps coordinates found on the eyeball itself Tempe and her police cohort Skinny Slidell are led to the first of several suspicious deaths, which seem to mimic old cases from Tempe's past. Meanwhile Katy, Tempe's ex-military daughter, who has been showing signs of PTSD has begun volunteering at a homeless shelter. When Katy disappears from contact, Tempe must decide if she is just needing space or if it could be all connected and Katy is in danger.

Book number 21 in the Tempest Brennan (Bones) series by Kathy Reichs checks all the boxes that author and real life Forensic Anthropologist Kathy Reichs is known for and leads to best sellers lists. Though overall I loved this book.. I did have a few issues with a few moments in this book.
1- an eyeball is left on your door at your personal home and you don't immediately take it as personal and threatening - they know where you live..
2- when you are being 'threatened' and a family member goes incognito you don't hesitate to search for them.. act first apologize later
3-gut feelings are considered an asset by most law enforcement to be taken seriously then followed up by the work If something or someone feels off at least look into what might be causing that reaction.

All that aside I must say I enjoyed this book it is gritty and dark at times but you can count on our heroine to put the pieces in the right order and solve the puzzle. I anxiously look forward to the next installment.
I received this arc from #netgalley for my honest review.
I gave this book 5 stars at goodreads

This is the 21st installment in the Tempe Brennan (Bones) series. A series of odd cases lead Tempe to believe someone is copy catting her old cases....but why would someone do that? Things strike closer and closer to home, and Tempe can't reach her daughter, Katy, who is a vet suffering from PTSD. Skinny is back and, of course, so is Ryan (a little!).

Suspenseful and entertaining, even if you do figure out the culprit mid-way through.

Tempe Brennan is a forensic anthropologist. Her daughter Katy has just returned home from the army and is settling in Charlotte, NC.

They find an eyeball at Tempe’s with GPS coordinates that lead them to a Benedictine monastery. Soon, more bodies show up and they have eeary resemblances to some old cases Tempe worked with Detective Skinny Slidell. He is officially retired but still helps with the cold case unit at CMPD and works PI with Tempe’s boyfriend, Canadian Andrew Ryan. When Katy disappears and things turn more serious, it appears someone is targeting Tempe. Who is this killer and why are they copying her?

This is my first book by this author. I haven’t read the other books in the series (this is book 21) and I didn’t feel lost at all in the series. I definitely want to go back and read the others. I would recommend.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.

This is the 21st book in the Temperance Brennen series. You don’t have to have read any of the first 20 books but, sometimes it helps to know ‘who is who’.

Somebody is using Tempe’s old cases and revisiting them in new ways.
Besides this, her daughter Katy, newly back from her stint in the service, has disappeared.

Similar to previous books in this series, the closer Tempe gets to solving
the mystery of ‘who done it’, the more dangerous things become for her.

One thing I noticed is that the language in this book has become increasingly
crude and laced with profanities. I don’t remember ever thinking that about Reich’s past books. Just a heads up if that is not to your taste.

My thanks to Net Galley and Scribner for allowing me to review this book.

In Tempe Brennan s 21st outing, she is brought in on various cases that turn out to be copy cat murders of previous murders. Add on top.of that her daughter Katys ptsd and subsequent disappearance, Tempe has her hands full. Thankfully Skinny Sidell is back to assistant, along with her boyfriend Ryan. I enjoyed this and was surprised to the identity of the killer.

Tempe s daughter Katy is home from over seas, after serving 8 years in the military. Katy is unsure what she wants to do now. She decides to.volunteer at a.homeless shelter. When she returns from volunteering a few days after starting, she and Tempe find an eye on a.box on Tempe s back porch. Then Katy disappears.

Someone is copying some of Tempes old cases. But who would do this, and why. While Tempe is working these copy cat.murders, she is also trying to locate Katy. Thanks netgalley for. This advanced copy.

This is the 21st book in this series. I hadn’t read her in awhile but I didn’t feel like I missed anything. There is plenty of suspense to hold your interest. I did see the ending coming, but still enjoyed it. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Thank you to Scribner books, NetGalley for the ARC and especially thank you to Kathy Reichs for continuing to write Temperance Brennan books. This is number 21. Here are the reasons this series is one of my favorites. 1. I enjoy different genre but my favorite is mystery and if you throw in forensics, well that is like the icing on my cake! That alone is an attention grabber and the mysteries mount up for Tempe, seem to copy some of her older cases in this book. Mystery after mystery. 2. I have to ‘like’ the characters, realistic with their strengths and weaknesses. In some series I have to stop and try to remember who the main characters are, not with Temp, Ryan, Katy and Skinny. It’s like visiting old friends. That alone says something. 3. Some authors can be what I consider wordy, overly descriptive but not Kathy R.’s books they are just right. I know the book has grabbed me when I’m doing a chore and I’m thinking about the book. Wondering ‘who did it’ or ‘what’s going on’. Or if I’m trying to sleep and say to heck with it and finish the book in the wee hours of the morning…like with this one. The only problem I have with this series is sometimes after I’m done reading the latest book, it’s hard to pick up another author’s book. She spoils me 😊 If you are looking to read this book as a standalone, you could but I would suggest you treat yourself and start with Deja Dead.

I really enjoyed this installment in the Temperance Brennan (Bones) series. A box arrives at Tempe's house containing a human eyeball. Tempe really needs to get a ring doorbell and cameras to see who is roaming around her house. More strange things keep happening and it looks like this is personal. Who would be after Tempe when the cases are all so different? You will keep reading until the thrilling conclusion.

Thank you to #netgalley and @Scribner for a copy of this book.

If I have a tried and true author, Kathy Reichs fits that label perfectly. As a science "nerd" myself, I absolutely adore the detail that she includes in each of her books. I love reading about the forensic side of cases & how all the teeny, tiny details can come together to catch a killer.

This book had me from the jump. I love that she continues to bring back the same characters. There are so many twists and turns that have you guessing who the killer is the whole time. I figured it out, but definitely did not know the why. Reichs is the master at throwing out so many details & subtly leaving clues throughout the story the whole time.

I don't want to give away too many details, but will say that if you enjoy reading crime & thrillers, this book is for you. Honestly, Reichs never disappoints. I'm already excited for the next book she comes up with!
