This novel was interesting and kept my interest throughout. I enjoyed the plot and overall a good read.

I have read many (not all) of the books in this series and I loved each one of them. This one is one that I just absolutely loved. I just couldn’t put it down at all. Heck I didn’t want to stop reading it that I asked my husband to go pick up some takeout just so that I could finish reading this book instead of putting it down to cook.

I am so hoping there will be many more books to come because I can’t bare the thought of this series ending.

I do recommend this book.

So good! I love Temperance Brennon - she is one of my favourite characters., a great character with all of her imperfections. As always, Reichs’ novel is fast-paced and I was glued to the story. I read this one in a day.

How can anyone not be intrigued and curious when a story begins with a human eyeball that has gps coordinates etched in it? One of Kathy Reichs excellent mysteries with forensic anthropologists Temperance Brennan , Tempe will search out who is behind the gruesome killings. Strangely, but interestingly they are similar to some of her worst previous cases. An excellent mystery. 4.5 stars

Just in case there is any reader out there not familiar with this series (it could happen!), Temperance Brennan, the sometimes irascible, always ingenious forensic-anthropologist, ex-alcoholic, divorced mother of kick-butt Katy Peterson, is a force to be reckoned with. As she performs her medical duties (expertly and with more than a hint of dry wit), consulting on “corpses unfit for autopsy”, due to their “burned, decomposed, mutilated, mummified, or skeletal “ state, for the Medical Examiners office in Charlotte, North Carolina, Tempe stirs up her own sort of trouble, running into more than her fair share of personally-targeted danger, violence and trauma.

In this installment, Tempe must deal with a horrific - a grisly eyeball of unknown origin, hand-delivered in a package left on her doorstep. Before too long, this is followed by the discover of a human head, a whole slew of diverse and creepily-dispatched murder victims, and an odd assortment of evil, angry vengeance-seeking criminal-candidates.

Working round the clock with assistance from her handsome beau Ryan the PI, his sometime partner ex-cop-and-now-PI Erskine “Skinny” Slidell, and an ever-changing team of police and medical colleagues, Tempe must race the clock to identify a murderer whose homicidal quest appears as personal as it is gruesome.

Without giving the plot away (no spoilers here) this is a fun read, fast-paced and clever, loaded with tension, snappy characters and a truck-full of nastiness, destined to keep you reading, clocking clues and seeking literary redemption of a sort, for someone must pay for all this murderous mayhem.

With an ending mostly guessed, this reader found the finale satisfying, and well-executed.

A great big thank you to the publisher @Simon&ShusterCA for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

This was not a book I would normally gravitate towards, it wasn't for me. I didnt like the pace or the characters or the development of the story, it fell flat for me. I had read great reviews, it didn't work for me!

This book is the 21st in the series, and I honestly thought we were going to loop back to the beginning. But we didn't and this isn't how to story goes. Too bad, because I feel like this is a missed opportunity to revamp this series.
These read well and the story is great. Obviously the author has this recipe figured out as it's the 21st book in the series. It was well written sucked me in but just didn't go where I had hoped for. It was still an incredible read and I would absolutely recommend.

Yeah, other fantastic installment in this series! I enjoy it so much, and this was a really great look back into Tempe's past cases. And adding the pressure of her daughter disappearing, well, this book was pretty intense! I had to know what was going to happen next!

This case is personal for Tempe-these are cases that she previously worked, and someone is copy catting them, and sending them in her direction. So something is going on there. And then she can't get ahold of her daughter, and the pieces start to come together.

One thing that I really enjoyed about this book was that we got a look back at Tempe's past cases. And while it's been a while since I've read the first few books in this series, I'm pretty sure almost all of the cases that this copycat recreated were before the first book. So it was really interesting to learn about them!

There was a lot going on, a lot of moving pieces, and I had a great time watching it all come together! That ending was pretty intense, and I couldn't put it down! I had such a great time reading it, and oh, the bad guy was pretty shocking-but there were clues that led to them, so that was awesome!

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for the next in the series!

Despite the fact that I quickly identified the murderer, I remained engaged in the story and was curious to see how the plot would unfold. The story is typical of a Temperance Brennan novel so no real surprises here. Either you like the series or you don't. An okay read for a rainy day.

Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan shares her time between Charlotte, North Carolina and Montreal, Quebec, working in both locations.

In this 21st in the series, bodies are found in N. Carolina, the only connection their mimicry of remains Tempe found in the past. Who is targeting Tempe? It all seems very personal.

Then her daughter Katy disappears and Tempe is frantic.

This author is always worth reading.

Unfortunately, this one was a miss for me. I found the way she connected the copycat cases - realizing that they were connected before knowing that they were copycats - based only a gut feeling was too much for me. There was no real reason to think that the knife in the eye connected to the torso. I think that feeling should have brought Tempe back to some physical evidence - an unusual tool mark or unexplained trace fiber - that she had originally overlooked but led her to realize the crimes were being committed by the same person. Instead it was just a wild hunch that turned out to be right.

The biggest problem for me was that the original cases that inspired the copycat murderer were newly introduced in this book (unless I’ve simply forgotten, which is possible as I’ve been reading this series for a decade now). For me, this was a giant missed opportunity. I think it would have been really fun for all of the new cases to be linked to cases from previous books. I thought that’s what was happening at first, remembering that remains had been found in an outhouse in a previous book (*Bare Bones*, I believe). I would have really enjoyed the callbacks and I think it would have breathed new life into into this series which has honestly gone a bit stale.

I don’t know where this series is going anymore and I’m not really that excited to find out. I would love to read something really grounded in Dr Reichs’ research and field experience as a bioarchaeologist and forensic pioneer.

I was worried when reading this book that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I’d hoped I might when I realized it is part of a larger series and that this story harkens back to some of those other mysteries, I needn’t have worried as this book stands alone excellently without going into too much detail about those past mysteries that would annoy someone already familiar with them. This book had me gripped and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. It was creepy and suspenseful and intriguing , all the things you want in a good mystery thriller without being too much of any of it. I had no trouble falling asleep after reading it in bed. A great read anyone who loves the genre will enjoy.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This author is back! I found her last book very lacklustre and it had a hard time keeping my concentration. This book starts out with an eyeball in a box on her doorstep; how much more exciting can you get than that. Tempe tries to figure out what’s going on at the same time she is trying to deal with her daughter who has recently moved back and seems to be having some problems.

This book was full of action, and the characters that we love with a storyline that was worthwhile reading. Put this one on your list

This was my first novel from Kathy Reichs, and I really enjoyed her writing. Our main character, Temperance, is whip smart, loves her job, and is great at what she does. It took me a bit to warm up to Temperance - she came across as clinical, but I ended up loving her dry humour and the way she described things. The love she has for her daughter makes her human and more relatable.
I'm interested in hearing more from this author, and especially from Temperance!

This is my second book read by Kathy Reichs (not including the novella First Bones) and I loved it. The suspense had me speeding through because at one point a few people looked guilty to me. I have a soft spot for Tempe because I loved the tv show this series is based on. Kathy knows her stuff so I'm confident that the forensic science is accurate. Looking forward to diving back into the series and reading some of the earlier books.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book from the author and I must say I quite enjoyed it. I love the forensic anthropology aspect of it, plus the thrilling action-packed scenes! At first, I couldn’t grasp the wry humor of Temperance, but after a while, I was able to get used to her inner monologue, which was actually quite funny. Temperance’s relationship with her daughter made her more human and it definitely added color to the story, as sometimes she comes across as cold and only work-centered. I definitely would go back to the previous books in the series to read more about her cases!

Temperance Brennan is back! I have been reading this series since my teens and they never disappoint. Well, I guess I could use more Ryan in every book but oh well. This books started with a bang and an eyeball and it didn’t stop from there. I loved this and consumed the whole book in a day. I have recommended this to my family members.

I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of this book from Netgalley. What a treat! As with all of Reich’s books, it’s a real page turner. I love Tempe Brennan as a protagonist. She’s clever, smart, kind, and a great mother all rolled into one. I love her sense of humour, and the way she interacts with the other characters. Combine that with a thrilling murder mystery and you have an amazing book on your hands.

The book grabbed my attention right away and as each new body (or body part) was discovered my interest only grew. There were plenty of things happening at any given time in the story that kept me glued to the pages. I enjoyed the look back at tempes previous causes and trying to remember which one was from which book.
