Good listen
What would you do if you found out the man you loved and after a terrible accident were currently grieving for was actually a serial killer.
After being with John this kind gentle man for the last 10 years Cameron realises she didn't know this man at all
The evidence is damning and it seems even without the evidence Cameron found the police were already closing in on John
It also looks like Cameron could be in the frame for being his accomplice as Cameron digs deeper she begins to doubt he is actually dead after all the body was never found
Cameron decides to investigate her suspicions herself even if it does put her in danger
I enjoyed this book but there wasn't enough twists for me so halfway through I had predicted the end
Thanks Net Galley & Orange sky publishing for allowing me the opportunity to listen to this book
This is an ok thriller if you don't mind putting aside some believability. The first half of the book held my interest as the story unfolds and we learn what's happening and meet the characters. Once things get going though, this is where things start to fall apart for me. I don't mind carrying some disbelief throughout a story but it has to make sense to me in at least a little way which here it just did not. There was also a side storyline that I found distracting from the main story and did not see it's purpose. There were some tense moments and I was really engaged initially, it's just the rest of the story that didn't work for me.
I listened to this on audio and it was a well done production. If you choose to read this one, I would recommend listening to the audio version.
Thanks to me for the advanced audio copy of this interesting wilderness thriller!
I wasn’t sure what to think of this at first, as it starts with a man being mauled by a bear - presumably. After he’s officially declared dead, shit hits the fan for his wife when she discovers evidence that her late husband is really a serial killer. How could a wife not know is a main question, which sends her on a trip looking for her husband as she believes he’s still alive somewhere.
The story is great, I love a good serial killer story. The suspense comes in with the wife looking for her presumed dead husband. Since she knows he’s legally dead, she spends her time following little clues to locate him. It’s a wild ride honestly. The weird forced love connection I could have done without but I know some people need that in their stories so it is what it is.
The narrator did a great job in my opinion. I was interested in the story and the voices were done well. I’m happy with the experience!
I’d recommend this to anyone interested in serial killer stories or books that involve adventure.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this audio book mystery! Hard to tell who committed which crime for sure until the end. I also really liked some of the "educational" sections about Alaska and the wildlife and the environment. I think anyone would like this novel. The author did a good job putting together this story for sure..
** spoiler alert ** ****Spoilers included in review*****
The Final Hunt by Audrey J. Cole tells the story of a wife who finds out her husband is a serial killer who she believes has faked his own death. She is faced with losing everything so she takes off to Alaska on a belief her husband isn't dead and is hiding out. She wants to clear her involvement in his crimes while also protecting secrets from her own past.
I enjoyed this book and the characters and settings. The only caveat to that is I felt Cameron's past wasn't really fleshed out enough. The second, and much bigger, bone I have to pick with the story is Cameron is a dentist who has camped a few times but the writer expected us suspend our disbelief enough with the storyline that she could handle herself so well in the Alaskan snow-covered forests to find her husband and deal with him. I kept putting myself in the character's shoes and thought I would have run into far worse situations.
Having said all of that, I very much enjoyed the story. It kept me listening to find out what happened next. I would recommend this book to others but make sure you pack your imagination to go on this trip.
***I received a free audiobook from Net Galley for this review but my words and thoughts expressed in this review are all my own****
4/5 stars.
Thank you Rainer Publishing and OrangeSky Audio for the advanced listening copy!
When her husband, John, gets killed by a bear on a remote hunting excursion, Cameron is understandably devastated. That is, until she finds crime scene photos in his office, tying him back to one of the most notorious, uncaught serial killers in the area. Cameron starts to investigate John's life further, questioning EVERYTHING, including his mysterious death.
This one was such a wild ride! I finished this one sooo quickly because I truly couldn't stop listening! Audrey Cole tells us the riveting and fast-paced story of a marriage, and two people's lives, falling apart at the seams. You'll want to question EVERYONE that Cameron comes into contact with. There were a few moments in this story where things worked out just a little too well for our heroine, Cameron, which is why this is 4 star for me instead of 5. Despite that, I thought this was a creative thriller that really kept me on my toes!
Cameron finds out her husband is killed in a bear attack. Soon after his death, she finds some crime scene photos that prove he is Seattle's latest serial murder. But everyone has a secret, and Cameron is out to figure out what happened.
The beginning of this book totally sucked me in. It starts off with a big bang and to be honest, it really doesn't let up very much. I felt like this plot really kept kind of chugging along and didn't really lull. I will say the ending wasn't that surprising but it got the job done. I also appreciated that we didn't use the "mental health" trope for once in a thriller. Whew!
There was a strange romance happening - I could have done without it... but maybe the author was just trying to appeal to a wider audience or to switch things up a bit.
This was overall a quick and entertaining listen - I could see this being a great little movie if picked up by someone! Maybe random, but I kind of got Dexter: New Blood vibes while reading this too! So I would recommend this for fans of Dexter.
Cameron’s husband John went missing while hunting. His body was never found by his friend said he heard a bear and John screaming. Everyone believes John was killed by a bear. Devastated Cameron makes a shocking discovery - photos. But these photos are not captured memories of happier times. No these are trophy photos - picture proof of John's involvement in the murders of women in Seattle.
Now, Cameron is being dragged through the mud. How could she be married to a serial killer and not know it? Her dental business is gone, and she is having trouble selling their home.
What's a girl to do?
This was an enjoyable listen, and I enjoyed the narrator but found the book to be predictable in parts and nothing in this really shocked me. I would put this in my good not great pile. It's one that while I enjoyed listening to it, I most likely will forget it in months to come.
Many are enjoying this more than I did, so please seek out their reviews as well.
Thank you to OrangeSky Audio and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
I was really into this wilderness thriller until the insta-love story that the end devolved into. Quickly went from a 4 star to a 2 star in the final chapters. I don't read thrillers for a love story. And especially one so unbelievable as that.
Narrator was great.
Another audiobook narrator that did not capture my attention and I was forced to plow on through the audiobook.
The book was very interesting and compelling. Suspenseful throughout too.
I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am providing my honest review.
Camron’s life is falling apart in front of her eyes. Her first husband died in a house fire after taking his own life, her second husband died in a hunting accident, and now her successful dental practice is crumbling to pieces. As the story unfolds about a teacher killer, fingers begin pointing at Cameron. Was Cameron dealt a bad deck or is she secretly somehow behind all of these horrific events?
The Final Hunt, written by Audrey Cole was a suspenseful page turner that kept me engaged until the very end. Taking place in an Alaskan setting really set the stage for the environment involved in the story line. The thrilling detail with the dramatic scenes pulled me in and made me feel as if I was right there along side Cameron on this wild ride. I listened to this book as an audiobook which was well narrated. I enjoyed the suspenseful story line along with a slight hint of romance thrown in.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychology thriller, mystery, and suspense. Audrey Coley jumps right in, giving you plenty of detail to set the stage from the very beginning. She keeps you wanting to read more and more until the very end, giving away hints but not enough to guess the ending to early. I will definitely keep my eye out for the next book written by Cole. Thank you for this reading opportunity.
I’ve really enjoyed this audio book. The narrator is very good and the story is a real page turner, with engaging and believable characters. The plot twist at the end wasn’t really a surprise o em but I’ve still enjoyed this audio book book very much. Looking forward to the next book from this author.
What would happen if you discovered that your recently deceased husband was a infamous serial killer and you had no clue? That is the premise for this story centering around Cameron the widow of this horrible man. Cameron’s life turns upside down as she tries to uncover the truth about the man that she thought she knew. Her journey leads her to places she never thought she would go and dangers that she never imagined she would face. It also brings to light her past that she thought was a secret that no one else knew about, but someone does and they are trying to keep Cameron away.
This was a good story, predictable in parts but entertaining just the same. Cameron was a great character, unlucky but determined!!
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
From the publisher: "After John disappeared while hunting - presumed dead from a bear attack - Cameron found the crime photos. His role in the recent Seattle serial murders was discovered. The media destroyed her reputation. She lost her dental practice, is on the brink of losing her home.." Just from those 3 sentences I knew I was in for a wild ride. And I was right!
What would you do if you discovered (after his death) that your husband was a serial killer? When this happens to Cameron, she's judged by the police, media, her dental clients and friends. No one can believe she didnt know about his crimes. Instead, they believe she aided him and is complicent in the murderous acts. Did she? What is she hiding?
Death, secrets and lies set in the wild Alaskan wilderness, The Final Hunt packs a punch to the senses. 'It's a quick read (or listen as in my case.) Once you start you wont want to finish until you figure it out. And while I guessed early on how it would all play out, that didnt take away from the enjoment I received from Cole's tragic thriller. Also should Cole decide to continue on with another book, I would be interested in reading more from her.
IThe Final Hunt would make a great tv series. Scenes from Alaska and the suspense from the story would translate very well to the silver screen. I would watch.
Many thanks to NetGallery, Audrey Cole and Orange Sky Audio for the opportunity to step into the great Alaskan outdoors and experience a memorable survival story.
Ending is a little predictable but overall the story is good. Do we ever really know who we are married to?
I received the audiobook version of this ARC from NetGalley so thank you!
How do you react when you find out the person you think you know best, you don't know at all?
This was my first read from this author but it will not be my last! This book was so so good! I loved the story and it always kept me guessing and engaged. I didn't know what turn the book was going to take next. I loved the pacing and the characters. I loved the fact that the main female character was a strong female lead.
My only complaint was that I didn't love the narrator for the audiobook.
I enjoyed this story and I would recommend it to thriller lovers out there!
So excited to have been given a advanced copy of this book! I received the audiobook version from NetGalley. This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be looking for more. I was sucked into the characters and was finding myself rooting for Cameron! There were definitely some twists that were a little too far out there for me, but overall I really enjoyed this one and would have no problems recommending it. It was fun, quick and definitely had me guessing until the very end.
I think they audio version wasn’t my favorite, the voice sounded kind of robotic, but it didn’t ruin the story and I’m glad I read this one!
This book drew me in almost immediately! This story follows Cameron whos husband was just murdered by bears on his hunting trip. Shortly after her whole world was turned upside down, she discovers that her husband was a serial killer (she finds his trophy photos in his office). Throughout the next few months you start to realize that everyone has secrets- and no one is innocent in this story. I enjoyed that there was a small romance in the book- it felt slightly out of place, but still made for a cute ending. Overall, this book was a super easy read/listen and I flew through it. The ending was slightly predictable but it did not make it less enjoyable!
Cameron finds herself facing hard times after her husband passes and her life slowly begins to unravel when he is accused of committing a string of murders. Cameron digs into the truth and begins to feel he is still alive. Determined to find him, Cameron's own past comes back into view and the focus shifts to her.
I really enjoyed the plot and storyline. It is a fast-paced read with not a bunch of depth into any characters, but the pace is nice and I really enjoyed it! If you're looking for an intense, quick murder story, with some cool info about Alaska, then check this one out!
Special thanks to NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest opinions.
Who's the Killer?
Thrilling, exciting and page turning. This is a story you will want to read. It keeps you engaged from the first page to the last. Keeps you guessing from the beginning and when the story ends you are still guessing.
Cameron has a profitable dental practice , with her husband John they have a beautiful home and a beautiful life. That is what she believes until John goes on a hunting trip and his partner Simon comes back without John. It is said that John was mauled and killed by a bear
Cameron is devastated and spends time at the mountain cabin where John was hunting. Then she finds the photos. When John is named as the Teacher Killer by the police her life becomes a nightmare. She loses her dental practice and is on the verge of losing her home. The press are relentless, the detective investigating is determined to find the truth and John's friend and partner Simon is the only one she can trust.
When she finds something in her home she is convinced that John is still alive and goes to find him in the wilds of an Alaskan winter. She soon discovers that her only friend may not be a friend at all. Will she find John alive? If so what happens when she finds him?
Meanwhile the detective on the case is digging and finds some interesting information. Does Cameron also hold a dark secret? Will he uncover her secret? Will he solve the case of the Teacher Killer? Who was the real killer and did he have help?
This story grabbed my attention in the beginning and held it throughout the book. This was a good thriller and held so many secrets. I was kept guessing even after the last page was read.
The audio book was very easy to understand, the narrator did a fantastic job, especially well on the dramatic spots. The voice was pleasing to listen to.
I enjoyed this story and I would recommend it.
Thanks to Audrey J. Cole for writing a great story, to Stacey Glemboski for doing a fantastic job narrating it, to OrangeSky Audio for publishing it and to NetGalley for making it available to me to read and review.
