Great narration! The Final Hunt begins as a melancholic novel about a woman who has lost her husband in a bear attack. Suddenly her life spins out of control as she uncovers a life her husband lead that she knew nothing about. Audrey Cole does a fantastic job of twisting a tale of mystery and deceit as the moments in Cameron's life turn upside down. Who can she trust and what can she do to uncover the real truth? This novel was easy to follow as an audio book and I sat through the entirety in one day. Fantastic!!!

This is not my usual genre of choice and I don't mind admitting that it creeped me out from the very beginning.

It would freak anybody out to discover that the husband you had mourned for two years was actually a serial killer and Cameron had not only that to deal with, but all sorts of complications in her life when the news got out to the media and the public.

This book is basically Cam's journey into the Alaskan wilderness to find out the truth about her husband...and to keep her own truth's hidden. It's just not clear who's innocent and who's guilty of what.

I listened to the audio version of this book narrated by Stacey Glemboski. The intense story and the sound of her voice kept me listening to see just what was going to end up being what...and who. A great domestic/ suspense thriller that will keep you up reading long into the night. I highly recommend!

Thanks to Orange Sky Audio and NetGalley Audio for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

I did enjoy listening to this audiobook.
I liked the Cameron and I thought that she was a strong character and I did feel sorry for her a few time with how she was treated by people.
Both she and I knew that there was more to this story and the writer could have made the story have more depth in this instance, but it was an easy story to listen to.
A solid 3 stars for me .

#1 - fantastic narrator. I thought she did an excellent job throughout.
Now, onto the novel! Oh, I was so instantly hooked by Audrey Cole's "The Final Hunt" all of my yardwork is complete because I just kept going so I could keep listening.
I love the premise of not quite knowing the people closest to you, and I thought Cole did an excellent job with her slow trickle reveals throughout the novel. I have a strong opinion on mystery/thriller stories that tend to hold back too much information, but this was not a problem with Cole's work. Every twist was well-timed, and the overall pacing of the story was excellent! Loved it!

Was he guilty? Did he really die? Those questions I asked myself throughout listening to the book. The author did a great job of keeping me in suspense. This book is a page turner and will have you second guessing the whole time. Glad I received permission to read and review this ARC from NetGalley.

Wow! Ok… This HAS to be a movie or picked up by Hulu for a series (even if it’s just Cameron’s story as a limited series.)
This was so much fun to listen to!

First off, thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced audio copy of this book that drops June 7th. I admit that I had not heard of this author before but the premise caught my attention. It’s a pretty simple plot and I did figure out who the accomplice was very early on, but it was a ride!! I’m not usually into cop/investigator stories— but it felt like it was a secondary subplot because the author does a great job at the slow burn of Cameron‘s development and backstory.

Imagine grieving the grizzly loss of your husband only to discover three months later that he was a psychopath serial killer of beautiful, young women. She loses everything! When the detective starts questioning Cameron, thinking she’s his accomplice, she finds more clues and she’s convinced he’s alive. But nobody else believes her. So starts her quest for the truth. And it turns out, she’s quite the bada$$! But why I love this so much was also the scenery… Washington to Alaska and the northern lights… And the sweet, subtle relationship that developed that at times, was adorable. It was the strangest thing, but it worked! The ending led me to believe that this might be a continued series…
4.5 stars rounded up. (Trigger warning for some gore.)

I've found a new favorite suspense/mystery author in Audrey J. Cole! I absolutely could not tear myself away from this audiobook and listened to it in about 3 sittings. Great storyline, great writing and you couldn't help but root for the female main character. It was refreshing to have a strong and decisive heroine who is also a pilot, no less!

It's also so wonderful to have a secular book with no profanity and explicit scenes, though there was some expected blood and gore.

The narrator is top notch with the right tones and inflections for different characters. One of my pet peeves for narrators is females who lower their pitch too much for male characters but Stacey Glemboski made it just right. Excellent job!

Such an entertaining and compelling tale! I was gripped from the start. Excellent slow reveal of the back story. This is a mystery/thriller, but I think the main character, Cameron, is the real focus. We gradually get to know her as the grieving widow to the crazy murderer. What an excellent slow reveal of her back story. I thought I know what it’s all about, but I read to be sure. I love a strong female who defies stereotypes, and she is it. The image of her flying her Cessna in the snow has stuck with me.
The audio by Stacey Glemboski was excellent. Her voice is very easy on the ear. I listened to it in one day and got lots of walking in that day too. The plot is a bit different in that it starts with the widow discovering her dead spouse was a serial killer. From there, it’s not a super complicated story and there are just a few characters to keep track of. I enjoyed the Alaska facts I picked up and maybe some of those scenes could have been a bit more descriptive. I can see the movie in my head, and it will be a good one! The romance with the state trooper was a lovely addition and not too heavy.
Even though the gore factor is high, I kind of enjoyed the horror aspects of the murder scene in the snow. John is definitely a bad guy, and I took pleasure in the horrific manner of his death. I guess the fact that we are closer to serial killers than not is true after all!
This is a new author to me and I will look forward to working through her backlist. Thanks for the advance copy Net Galley and Orange Sky Audio.

This is an interesting mystery/thriller that I would definitely recommend to others! The story is a bit unusual, and the added elements of the environmental challenges (remote Alaska wilderness/survival) are also unique. Of course, some decisions made to wrap things up at the end seemed a little far-fetched, but the entire story is pretty extreme so that didn't bother me. I was reading for entertainment not veracity!

There could have been more sensory details about the environment and more physical traits about the characters, to see them better.

I really appreciate that the author did not introduce too many characters into the story, as a way to try to throw you off from solving the mystery. That's a temptation that many authors succumb to and it usually serves to frustrate the reader who is trying to keep all of the names and people straight.

Thank you to NetGallery for the ARC
Wow, this was a really good audiobook, I listened to it in two days. I admit that it has pretty much zero mystery on it, it was very predictable (I think I guessed the whole plot in the second chapter) but that doesn't take away from the fun of listening/reading it. I feel like it was a very passive and introspective thriller, it was more about focusing on Cameron's development than building suspense for the plot. I think it's a solid 4 stars book (and for my personal book list is like a 3.5) I wanted to add that I would LOVE a movie of this book, it would be 10/10.
(This part of the review contains spoilers)
I must say that I loved Cameron's attitude hahaha, it is unexpected in this type of book, that woman does not regret anything, she does not think things twice, she was like "if you already knew what I did to my ex-husband, why would you think I'm going to leave you ruin my life and run free" lmao, he never saw that coming hahaha she was such an iconic protagonist without the need to be a super spy expert in martial arts, literally she's just a dentist (who has a pilot license, that's so badass). I loved that when she went to kill him, she didn't even doubt, I was already waiting for the dramatic scene of the typical murderer trying to manipulate the protagonist into forgiving him and the protagonist feeling bad, well that doesn't happen, he got what he deserved, and the wolves got dinner, happy ending.

A gripping thriller. Cameron's husband is dead but she's doesn't believe it so starts this excellent book by Audrey J Cole. From Washington state to Canada this book delivers. Stacey Glemboski narration is spot on.

Cameron is mourning the loss of her husband John. He was“Killed“ by a bear attack while hunting in the woods with his good friend. While at the cabin they share in the midst of her sadness she finds a thumbnail and on this thumbnail she finds pictures of dead women and also pictures of them while they were still alive. She turns it into the detective and finds out her husband we The teacher killer. This is when the book became unrealistic to me. The next day it comes out in the papers and Cameron is a dentist over patients canceled their dental appointments. Then her office manager turns in her resignation. I found is unrealistic because most people wouldn’t blame her for what her husband did then she starts thinking about well if he can lie to me about being a serial killer… Then maybe he could lie about being killed in a bear attack… Right? No, that was born his friend was freaked out who can take that? Despite all that she thinks he can fake it and go to search for him, but keep in mind she too has a secret… I mean even though this book is predictable if you suspend the leaf you will enjoy this book and I must say I did finish the book and enjoy it, but if you don’t like predictable books you will not like the bo so what I am saying is that this book is one of those books you will be doing in eyebrow and being like that can’t be possible oh that’s not true… But you still finish the book because secretly do you like it. I thought the narrator was great though she did a great job and I would definitely listen to books by her in the future. I was given this book by Nat Galli and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any grammatical punctuation no errors as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own. ok.

This was an easy and fast read. One thing I like about it is being atmospheric. Love the Alaskan wilderness, the forest, people and the way that they were describe it is all so vivid.

The last part has a nice twist though not at all that shocking/twisted. Halfway though you'll know what to expect as soon as you reached the ending.

If you want a cozy and easy to flip through pages of mystery and puzzle solving case, pick up this book.

"After John disappeared while hunting - presumed dead from a bear attack - Cameron found the crime photos. His role in the recent Seattle serial murders was discovered. The media destroyed her reputation. She lost her dental practice, is on the brink of losing her home.

Everyone has a secret. But if her husband could hide the unimaginable from her, who’s to say he’s truly dead?"

This was an action-filled fast-paced book with a strong female protagonist. The author could have benefitted from reading a bit more on the wildlife that she included in the book, but the errors did not take too much away from the storyline.

As far as the audio portion of the book, the narrator did a great job.

The Final Hunt
By Audrey J. Cole
Pub Date: June 7, 2022

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Thank you @netgalley for allowing me to listen to this thrilling and (quite literally) chilling book! It took me only three days to get through so needless to say I was sucked in from the start! The book follows Cameron, a fairly recently widowed woman, in her discovery of her late husband’s gruesome secrets after stumbling upon some old photos. She’s horrified to find that her husband was not who she thought he was and when she becomes a suspect in his crimes as well she sets out find truth on her own. Her journey takes her into the dangerous wilderness of Alaska where there are not only deadly animals but subzero temperatures to combat. Despite these threats she must find the truth before the detective on her tail uncovers her old secrets too!

Overall this was a very entertaining listen and would recommend it to someone looking for something quick and thrilling. There was very little mystery to me though, I pieced together many of the unanswered questions pretty early on in the book. Obviously that didn’t stop me from devouring this book though!

Courtesy of NetGalley, I listened to an audio of this book while walking my dogs twice a day, and I found it thoroughly entertaining for my purposes. I often found myself not pausing the story and continuing to listen while I stretched afterwards, which is not my M.O. because I treasure every minute of a story to carry me through multiple three mile walks. A couple plot points played out as I expected but that’s only because the author was adept at foreshadowing, and I like to play the guessing-game the entire time I read. Characters were developed enough for me to care about them, and the crime had a couple unique twists. I also enjoyed use of multiple perspectives because the cat-and-mouse nature of each moving through the crime entertains me, and I especially enjoy when I start to root for law enforcement.

I did not love this main character but I did love the plot, the pacing, and not shying away from savage scenes. I wish the ending would have not been as happy, but that is just my preference. I am fascinated with Alaskan living too.

I will definitely read this author's work in the future and plan to look into backlist.

This was a 5 up until the ending. It seems like maybe there’s a chance for another book with the detective? The ending felt hurried.

Interesting host of characters. Great edge of your seat writing.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for letting me review this excellent book!
