i did enjoy this story and the way is was written. I liked the style and the way it was told from the different character's perspectivesr. THhe book looks at lots of issues including threats, lies, and secrets. the were lots of twists and in some parts was even a little twisted. Some parts weredisturbing with psycho toxic narrators. There was quite abit of repetition which i thought slowed the pace down and wasnt needed.
My name is Isabella Butterworth. Your name is Isabella Butterworth.
We’re around the same age. We live in the same town.
But your life is more exciting than mine, isn’t it? Richer, dramatic, more fulfilling.
Imagine if I’d never found out about you...
But I have. Because someone mistook me for you.
And now I can’t stop thinking about you because I know you’re in trouble. You need my help.
And I need a way to get to know you.
To save you.
To be you..
What an absolutely amazing twisted read this was.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.
I really enjoyed this very intricate and complex plot. There were so many different aspects - stalking, a death threat, a brother in prison, new identities - and the author did a brilliant job of weaving them all together and continually evolving the story. Whilst I got the overall gist, I must admit that I'm not sure I totally followed it all in terms of Izzy and Jenny/Caroline and who was who. Whilst there's not actually many characters, the fact that they all either have the same real name and/or have adopted a false identity was somewhat confusing, especially when you layer on multiple twists and turns. I also would've liked a different ending. But that said neither of these things affected my overall enjoyment of this compelling read.
This was a brilliant book, so exciting. This is another new author for me. I’m definitely going to try and read more books by this author. I raced through this one as I just couldn’t put it down. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
I was hooked from the very beginning! Dark, twisty and utterly compelling. The red herrings will keep you guessing until the dramatic ending. Great read!
Friends Don't Lie
Friends dont keep secrets. FRIENDS DONT LIE.. or do they ?
I found this a little hard to follow to start with and to figure out who was who. The twists really got me and everything became more clear. I would definitely recommend this If you like psychological thrillers. A great read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Avon Books UK and Nell Pattison for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest Review
This is a fascinating thriller about a woman who finds out that another woman with the same name as hers may be in danger and worms her way into the other woman's life allegedly to protect her. This book is exciting and original and has a couple of shocking twists. However, one of the major plot twists doesn't really make sense and is never really explained fully which keeps us from being able to wholeheartedly recommend this book.
This is my fifth read from Nell Pattison. I was gripped from the first few chapters. The characters were intriguing to me and although I guessed some of the twists, the ending left me speechless. Dark and compelling, I recommend Friends Don't Lie very highly.
This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Avon Books UK via NetGalley.
I've read all the books by this author so far and am very happy to say that there isn't a book that I haven't enjoyed so far. This one was a bit confusing but still very interesting. This author seems to always try to add a bit of a deaf or hard if hearing situation to one or more of the characters and in this book it didn't really seem to play a part but was mentioned in this book. I still enjoy the authors writing style and imagination that is brought to life. I received this book as an ARC thanks to Netgalley, the author and publisher and am leaving this review voluntarily.
Bit of a book of two halves for me. The first part being a bit of a drag with introductions to characters but not a lot of action so to speak. The second part was much more interesting and lots of surprises. On the whole though I found the plot quite dark and so not my favourite read.
Isabella Butterworth works from home as a virtual assistant. She has chosen this route in her life as her hearing kept getting worse and she now wears two hearing aids which she hates. She lives alone just going for walks by herself. She believes that many of her friends have abandoned her due to her inability to hear well.
Isabella’s brother, Tony, was a paramedic and is now serving time in prison. After a mistake was made resulting in the life of a young child, he regrets his mistake. However, there was a doctor there that day who did notice the error and has since denied any knowledge of it. Now, that doctor is incognito. Tony wants Isabella to find the doctor and make them confess to their part in the error.
One night, Isabella is approached by a man who tells her that he is going to find and kill Isabella Butterworth. That’s when she realizes there are two women of the same name. So, she’s now on a mission to find this woman and warn her of the danger.
Thus begins a game of cat and mouse as Isabella finds the other woman and begins to snoop into her life. What she begins to uncover is a lot more than she had counted on and now she is also in very grave danger.
This was a book that makes the reader pay very close attention to what’s happening or they could get lost. I admit to being confused a time or two myself. But it is a good story and one that I think will be quite compelling to readers. Enjoy!

Wow! I started this book knowing that I have loved other books by Nell Pattison. The book started slow for me as the story built and characters were introduced, then the book went into hyper speed and I couldn’t put it down. A great read full of twists I never saw coming.
Two women meet who share the same name, Isabella Butterworth and their stories are told in alternative chapters. We learn more about each Isabella but then things take a darker turn and is gradually revealed that one of them is in danger.
The book started well and I enjoyed the change from one character’s narrative to another. However then it got a bit too twisty for me and the story became confused. An ok read but it loses itself in the second half.
What a story! So many twists & turns that made me re-read some parts as I couldn't believe what was going on. Who is Isabella Butterworth? What's her history & who is she now?
If you enjoy a complex story, you will love this read.
Isabella has received emails before for someone with the same name as her she is around the same age and lives in the same town but has an entirely different life. When Isabella realises she's in trouble she sets out to make friends with the other Isabella.
I read Hide and it was a great book full of twists and turns.
I didn't enjoy this book as much I found the pace very slow and it took quite a while to get into it but .... it was worth perceiving though, so many twists by the end!
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC.
Izzy lives a lonely life. Since she has progressively lost her hearing she has found socialising more difficult, eventually spending more time on her own. She works at home & her brother who she shares a flat with is away. When a man accosts her outside her flat looking for Isabella Butterworth she is shocked- yes she is but has no idea who he is. It seems to explain some emails she sometimes gets though. Having too much time on her hands she seeks out the other Isabella.
Bella's marriage is not very happy. She lives for her children. To look at her social media pages she seems to have a full life. & when she bumps into Jen at the gym & Jen crops up quite often they become friends.
OK so far, bit strange but OK. Somewhere along the line I began to lose track of what was going on. It was worth a read but not outstanding. Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
Friends Don't Lie By Nell Pattison
This was hard going after reading the fantastic Hide I was looking FWD. to this but I found it slow and boring and it just never hit home for me.
Two people share the same name and here our story starts and continues to meander its way through 400 odd pages where absolutely nothing happens I found the story boring felt frustrated by the lead character who made stupid decisions and did not feel compelled to pick the book up and turn the page.
Reading about both the two leads dull life was not interesting and I wasn't a fan of the ending.
Maybe a 50 year old guy is not the target audience.
Not worth your time or hard-earned cash.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
A dark and twisty thriller which gets going after a slow start with so many characters being introduced..
In Lincoln there are two women with the same name ‘Isabella Butterworth’ who live in the same town. Isabella is attacked whilst walking home by a man who said he is going to kill Isabella Butterworth when he finds her. Not long after he is found dead and the book gathers pace to a satisfactory end. No more spoilers from me!
Thanks the Net Galley and Avon Books UK for the chance to read and review.
I received an arc copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest opinion of it. I almost gave up on the first part of this book because it was slow moving. It did pick up about halfway through. There were so many twists that not only did it seem unbelievable but the book was very confusing.
Dark and disturbing read that was such a slow burn...I was really looking forward to reading this but I really struggled to get into it. I did finish it but I wasn't impressed.
