I wanted to like this more than I did. It took me at least half the freaking' book to even get into the story. So much of the first part is slow, just observing regular, daily activities. Things that in no way forward the plot. I skimmed but I kept reading because I was so intrigued by the mystery connecting these two women. I love unreliable characters and they afforded some good twists in the end. A decent read.
This was everything you need for a thriller and crime story. It is not as black and white as you first think and like most typical thrillers, is full of twists. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
3.5/5.
Overall, I really enjoyed this dark, chilling, well-plotted story. It was intense and fast paced and I raced through this in a few hours, frantically turning the pages, desperate to find out how it was all going to be resolved.
I do love a nell patteson book. The start was interesting and yet again gave me an insight into hearing loss which I never really thought of . Then the book went dark and twisty and I really wanted to know where it was going to go just loved it and devoured it in one afternoon.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
DNF at 85%. Didn't really care about any of the characters. Some of the things the characters did were very questionable and that twist lowkey didn't make any sense. I also felt we were at a standstill for a majority of the book, just watching daily activities. I think this could've been a lot more fast paced, which would've made it easier to get through. Unfortunately not for me.
I am a massive fan of the author, whether it’s her ‘silent’ series or a standalone, she smashes every book each time.
This story instantly pulled me in and my interest was engaged throughout, I loved the idea of mistaken identities.
As always, my reviews are spoiler free, but the twists!! I’m lucky I didn’t drowned in my hot tub from all the jumping around I was doing! Absolutely amazing (yes I’m 5ft feck all, so it could have been a reality 😂)
I cannot wait for the next book (and completely crossing my fingers for the next ‘Silent’ instalment
I really enjoyed this book, it had a good sense of mystery with some interesting twists that I did not see coming (which is unsual after reading so many similar books).
I’ve read, and really enjoyed, all this author’s books so I was pleased to get the chance to read the latest one.
Isabella Butterworth lives alone now that her brother is in prison and, due to her hearing difficulties worsening, she starts to cut herself off from her friends who don’t seem to care much for her anyway. A few times, Isabella has received emails for another Isabella Butterworth, but ignored them until she got one from a photographer. She couldn’t resist having a look at this person who shared her name, along with her husband and children.
Soon after, Isabella is accosted outside her flat by an angry man – clearly looking for trouble - she’s never seen before, and it becomes clear that he’s actually looking for the other Isabella Butterworth. She needs to warn the other Isabella but will need to find a way of doing that, so she plans to befriend her.
A brilliantly written thriller that will keep you gripped.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s a well written psychological thriller with plenty of twists. The plot was unique, intriguing and engaging.
It’s certainly a book that I’d recommend for anyone who likes this genre.
Two women with the same name live in the same city. They don't know each other, they have a completely different lifestyles. Nothing special, but one of them is obviously in a danger. Would you warn her, try to help her, or do something more sinister?
Izzy lives a difficult, almost isolated life due to her hearing difficulties, her brother is in a prison and she tries to help with his case, and almost in another universe, there is a mysterious Bella, mother, and wife that someone wants to hurt. Is she really just a victim?
A skillfully written psychological thriller in Nell Pattison's manner - she knows how to trick a reader to guess all along the book and at the end, everything you guessed is usually wrong.
Gripping, and with believable and engaging characters.
Friends don’t lie by Nell Pattison is a fast paced book which’ll draw you in and keep you turning the pages to invest into the story.
We are introduced to our characters - two women with the same name ‘Isabella Butterworth’ who live in the same town. Isabella is attacked whilst walking home by a man who states he is going to kill Isabella Butterworth once he comes upon her. Now being concerned for the safety of the other Isabella she will set out to find and befriend her but before she is able to do that the man is now dead.. murder or suicide? She is now stuck in a look trying to figure out what is going on. There is more to the plot but I don’t want to spoil anything.
Overall the story is amazingly written and fast paced, it constantly kept me thinking I was on the right path to what was going on but then I was proven wrong. There will be many times you’ll be questioning what is going on but it is a very entertaining read. I highly recommend this book.

My name is Isabella Butterworth. Your name is Isabella Butterworth.
We’re around the same age. We live in the same town.
But your life is more exciting than mine, isn’t it? Richer, dramatic, more fulfilling.
Imagine if I’d never found out about you…
But I have. Because someone mistook me for you.
And now I can’t stop thinking about you because I know you’re in trouble. You need my help.
And I need a way to get to know you.
To save you.
To be you…

I just reviewed Friends Don’t Lie by Nell Pattison. #NetGalley
Two people with the same names - Isabella Butterworth- paths cross when one receives an email meant for the other. Well the paths don't as much cross rather the email receiver kinda stalks the other Isabella but all with good intent. this makes for an intriguing and compelling story line. I really enjoyed reading this book as it kept me guessing to the end. The characters develop well and not everything is as it seems. I did find it getting a bit complicated towards the end and had to keep rethinking in my head what had happened previously. Definitely a good read though and I would highly recommend.
Isabella Butterworth discovers there is another woman living in her home town with her exact same name. Isabella is walking home one day and is attacked by a man stating he was seeking Isabella Butterworth and was going to kill Isabella when he finds her. Concerned for the other woman’s safety, Isabella sets out to locate and befriend the other Isabella (Bella). Before Isabella can locate and befriend Bella, the man who is seeking to kill Bella, commits suicide, or was it murder?? Seeking to solve this mystery as to why this man wanted to kill Bella, Isabella creates a false name, and manages to befriend Bella. Did Bella kill this man? Was Bella’s husband to blame? Or is it all tied into Bella’s and her husband’s past? Shocking discovery lies in secrets tied to Isabella’s own brother and a tragic death of a young girl.
Keeps you guessing and will linger in your thoughts well after closing the last page off!
Great entertaining read
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy for an honest review.
This book is so intense, I read the first page and I couldn´t let down. I felt the disppear of the character. She was alone and happens so many things to her that she took someone as her life jacket but she did so many weird things later.
It was so well written, besides the plot was good.
Two women share the same name. When one of them is attacked by someone who mistakes her for the other woman, she decides to warn her and then becomes obsessed.
This is a great psychological thriller and I couldn't put it down
I liked this overall. It took me awhile to get into. Very slow at first and stopped reading for a bit but once I got about 3/4 through I wanted to see what happened. I did get a little confused on characters though. Too much back and forth.
