This YA fantasy is a great final instalment to the series. I loved the relationship between the characters and seeing them develop over the series. Magic, tension and mystery, what more could you need?

Sisters of Midnight is the third and final book in the Sisters of Shadow trilogy by Katherine Livesey. Released 1st Nov 2022 HarperCollins on their One More Chapter imprint, it's 275 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is a well written and engaging YA character driven fantasy novel. Central themes of friendship and cooperation and "sisterhood" challenging the darkness are combined with positive relatable strong female characters throughout.

The series has been described as "Anne of Green Gables if written by Diana Wynne Jones" and that is a fair description. Despite being marketed as YA, there are elements here which are much darker and more difficult than the first two books. There's drama aplenty, as well as themes of found family and acceptance. There are positive portrayals of LGBTQIA+ characters and strength of friendship and acceptance.

It ties up earlier series spanning threads, and wouldn't work well at all as a standalone. For readers who prefer to binge finished story arcs, this would make a good weekend series binge or buddy read.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Again, I’m notorious for reading books in a series out of order but, I have to say this was fantastic. IT really made me want to start from the beginning of the series and read this book again. This book had a darker tone compared to other books I’ve read and I truly enjoyed it. I thought the writing flowed together and kept my attention the entire time.

I can’t wait to start this series over from the beginning .

Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for the early arc in exchange for an honest review.

Reading is an escape, and there's no better way to do just that than with a well-crafted fantasy novel. This week, we dive into the magical world created by X in their new young adult book, the third release in their popular series. Follow along as I review this spine-chilling adventure that weaves together elements of horror, intrigue, and friendship. It will be sure to captivate readers who enjoy a good suspenseful story––so let's get started!

When the sky lit up in a frenzy of fear and chaos, Lily and her friends found themselves face-to-face with an age-old nemesis - The Brotherhood of Light. For generations these infamous exorcists have been snatching away innocent witches for their own purposes, brainwashing them into accepting that some were good while others were bad - all subject to do as they say! But this time it was different; now Lily had the chance to fight back against those driven by light but cloaked in darkness…

The final instalment in Katherine Livesey’s Sisters of Shadow trilogy, Sisters of Midnight, is a thrilling conclusion to the adventure. All familiar characters from the previous books are back and better than ever as they fight for their lives against Hecate and her dark forces. As their journey comes to an end, they must rely on pragmatism and team up with Hecate if they are to survive.

The series focuses heavily on found families, acceptance and inclusion; making it a heart-warming read for young adults full of lessons about family values. With plenty of excitement and good pacing, you can easily pick up this book without much thought and find yourself instantly immersed in the story.

One of the main themes running through this series is that of acceptance and inclusion. At its core, this story is about being accepted for who you are - no matter your background or beliefs - and understanding that everyone has something valuable to contribute to society. As such, it serves as an important reminder to readers that we should all strive to be open-minded and tolerant towards others who may seem different from us.

Found families are a major focus throughout the series as well, with each character learning to appreciate the bonds created by their chosen family over blood relations or societal expectations. This teaches readers that family isn't defined solely by blood relations or social norms; instead, it's about finding people who share similar values and goals in life that make them feel comfortable being themselves around them. This is an incredibly powerful message for young adults, especially in today’s world where there is so much emphasis on fitting into certain boxes set out by society.

Sisters Of Midnight has a darker tone compared to the other books in the series since we reach the end of their journey here; with stakes higher than ever before as they face Brotherhood of Light’s dark forces head-on. However, even with all the danger that surrounds them they still manage to find moments of joy amongst it all which only adds more depth to this story; reminding us how important it is not just to fight but also to take time out every once in a while, to enjoy life too!

If you haven't already picked up your copy yet then what are you waiting for? Sisters Of Midnight is an exciting conclusion full of lessons about found families, acceptance and inclusion that will leave you inspired when you put down the book! With plenty of action scenes as well as moments of levity throughout this book will keep you hooked until the very end!

What a great way to wrap up this trilogy! Wow! What a ride! So much happened in this story, it’s hard to know where to start!

What’s different about this one is that while we see sections of the book from Alice and Lily’s perspectives, there are also parts from other characters point of view! Without spoiling, I will say there are some things that come full circle and we can see how the characters have impacted one another.

It was fun to get a glimpse of Alder Vale again, so we literally went back to where it all began! We witness the results of betrayal, and also some realizations by some characters that past behaviour was unfair.

I really enjoy this cast of characters. Alice is the moody, but full of heart character. Lily is quiet, and much stronger than she even gives herself credit for. Grace is very quick to react, and learning how to slow things down and take a step back. Jen is definitely the leader of the pack (in non-magical terms, that is.) He holds everyone’s respect and is genuinely pained when something hurts those he loves. Cass and Morven are the yin to the others Yang. They have a lot to learn in this one - who they are, what they’re looking for. And the twins are so spunky and fun!

If you’re interested in reading this one be sure to read the trilogy in order as there will be many things out of place! Enjoy!

This book was the most amazing ending to an amazing trilogy. I seriously couldn't put it down. I wish that I could un-read it just to read it again for the first time. God, I'm gonna miss these characters!

A tender and heartfelt conclusion to this emotional trilogy of magic and love in all forms. I'd love to see more of these characters some day, but I was quite content with how the final book concluded their journeys.

Katherine Livesey's novels have all been so charming so far, I was delighted to receive the last installment of the trilogy as an advanced copy. Thank you! As usual her settings are evocative, the characters and story are richly developed and the reading experience is a true delight. I will look forward to Livesey's works in the future.

Sisters of Midnight
by Katherine Livesey
Earc:NetGalley
Publisher: HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, One More Chapter
Publication Date: 01 Nov 2022
Genre :Sci Fi and Fantasy, Teens and Young adult
Sisters of Midnight concludes Catherine Livesey's Sisters of Shadow trilogy, and like the previous books in the series, it's heavily focused on found families and has plenty of drama to keep readers engrossed. I felt the first few books were more suited to the younger age group of YA, but this one is certainly darker in tone. Determined to destroy all but magic, the stakes are higher than ever. With nowhere to go and no one to turn to, the group is forced into pragmatism. I find they are unlikely allies because, as the old saying goes, my enemy's enemy is my friend. Hecate She is Winter, Shadow She is the High Priestess of the cult, and was once their bitter enemy. Will the unlikely alliance be able to settle their differences and quell their power struggles? They must if magic is to survive.
All the familiar faces are back and I loved being back in the story and it felt like being with old friends. Here again the emphasis is on acceptance and inclusion and found family values. This makes the book a heartwarming read. The pacing is good, the story is rambling, and it takes the reader on quite a journey, making it hard to let go of the book as I'm looking forward to seeing how it unfolds.

The first book of the Sisters of Shadow trilogy had me at the description of “Anne of Green Gables meets Diana Wynne Jones” and I never looked back. I loved going on an magical adventure with Lily, Alice and their friends and this was a fitting end to their story. The perfect fall read.

I got this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Sisters of Midnight concludes Katherine Livesey's Sisters of Shadow trilogy , and like the earlier books in the series there is a strong emphasis on found family and plenty of drama to keep the reader engaged. While I felt that the first books were more suited to the younger age range of YA this is certainly darker in tone. We are reunited with old friends Lily, Alice, Grace and Jem and the stakes are higher than ever before as the Brotherhood of Light is determined to destroy all magic except that which they wield themselves. With nowhere to go and no one to turn to the group is forced to be pragmatic. As the old saying goes the enemy of my enemy is my friend and so they find themselves with an unlikely ally - Hecate Winter, high priestess of the shadow sect and formerly their bitter foe. Will the unlikely alliance be able to overcome their differences and quell their infighting ? They'll have to if magic is to survive.
All the familiar faces are back and I loved diving back into the story , it felt like spending time with old friends. Once again there was a strong focus on acceptance and inclusion and the value of found family, something that made this book a heart warming read. The pacing is good, the story rattles along and takes the reader on quite the ride making it difficult to set the book aside as you are keen to know how it will play out.

The last of a trilogy and once again, a dramatic story full of friendship, love, support and attempts to make the world a better place for all regardless of who they are. A fantatsic read with a strong theme of acceptance and inclusion.

This book was so much fun to jump into for a spookier read going into October! As a big fan of the Shadow and Bone series, this was a novel I had no issue jumping into and getting right into the adventure of it. It is the third book in the series, which was super exciting because I got to read the other two once more and fall back in love with the witches, apothecary, and all the other characters I'd come to love as I read this series.

It features one of my favourite tropes of found family, something that makes this novel SO GOOD! It features magic, friendship, family, and definitely all the makings of an amazing YA novel. There is so much love between characters by book three, it makes every action or consequence of one of the characters that much more emotional for the reader. The book picked up right where we left off in book two and I was so invested in all the characters that it was nearly impossible to put down! A great spooky season read!

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this novel!
