What an absolutely thrilling read! The scene is so well set in Egypt and the archeology site that the reader feels part of the story. This was a new author for me, but I will definitely read more by her in future!

This was a most interesting story and very well written.
Many thanks to The Book Whisperer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley.

This is my first Claudia Rose novel and it can easily be read as a standalone.

There are several interesting aspects to this story. Claudia's beloved niece, Monica, decided to go to Egypt to participate in an archeological dig. The information about the process and logistics involved in such a project, as well as the relics and their history, was fascinating. Unfortunately, the family learns that Monica has gone missing and it is up to Claudia to travel to the site to aid in the hunt.

Claudia is well known as a forensic handwriting expert. She uses her analytic abilities to determine the characteristics of the perpetrators.

There are many twists and turns as the mystery unfolds. The investigation takes us to Egypt, Gibraltar, and London. In the process, we learn something about each of these locales.

I look forward to future Sheila Lowe novels.

I was excited to find a mystery set in Egypt, but it isn't solely set there. A young (too young?) woman joins an archaeological dig in Egypt, gets a crush on a charming Egyptologist who takes her on an "adventure." When her aunt can't get in touch with her, she fears the worst and learns that no one has seen either of them for a couple of days. When the aunt travels to Egypt, she finds that this is a mystery with international implications.

The premise of the mystery is interesting, but I found the set-up a bit hard to believe. The missing young woman seems entirely too young to be accepted in an archeological dig with a reputable team, even if strings were pulled. And, the Egyptologist she runs away with seems to have had trouble before, making me wonder if he really would be offered a second chance by a renowned archaeologist. Having some familiarity with Egypt and the archeological teams working there, these things bothered me. But, I think the naivete of the young woman was well-portrayed!

The idea of graphology as being part of solving a murder was new to me but as the story progressed I understood the concept. This was an enjoyable mystery with interesting characters.

An interesting read about that offers intrigue and lots of action. Anyone who has watched an Indiana Jones film will be inspired to become enveloped in this read. It is part of a series so it might be a good idea to read it in order.

Dead Letters was thrilling to read. The handwriting analysis was an interesting addition that helps it stand out from other similar thrillers. Poor eighteen year old Monica gets kidnapped in a foreign country, and her aunt, a handwriting analyst, immediately flies overseas and starts trying to solve the case. I found this novel to be well written and full of enough action to keep me interested.

A great read about Egypt and archeological finds. This is a mix of youthful adventure, intrigue and thievery. This is the story of an Aunt searching for her niece who goes missing while on an archeological dig. It jumps among countries, and involves unknown assailants. The story is a whodunit, but it is also full of Egyptian facts and information. The characters are interesting and the story moves at a quick pace. Even if the end is not completely surprising, the trip there is entertaining. This is a not-to-miss book!

This was brilliant - have read most of the series and never thought forensic writing could be so interesting. As the series is developing so are the stories and really enjoying it. It was so good to see Monica grown up and have some adventure - I remember my first oversees trip at least that didn't happen to me.

This family have so much trauma.

I was given a free copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

Mark another winner for Sheila Lowe. This Claudia Rose series is absolutely fascinating. Not only are the characters excellently portrayed and really understood, but I always learn something reading Lowe's books. Claudia takes a trip to Egypt to find her niece who's gone missing. Only one person knows where she is, and it's gonna be a wild ride to find her. Think of this story as Taken with a female protagonist and a more interesting story line!

Strong start, slow Finish.

The first thing I want to say is, I loved the concept of this book. It screamed adventure novel meets thriller. The setting of Egypt was enticing and had me interested from the start. I enjoyed those first few chapters with Monic narrating her experience, her character was believable and reminded me of new high school graduates I know. Then Claudia’s narration started, and I was a bit put off. I didn’t find her realistic and the way she spoke seemed very staged.

By halfway through the book, I was getting bored, and the story wasn’t flowing right. Between the part of the story occurring in the USA and the part occurring in Egypt there was a lot going on and they seemed disjointed. There was just too much stuff packed into one book and it became a very unrealistic story very quick.

Overall, a good premise that gotten taken a little too far.

Dead Letters, by Sheila Lowe, is an international suspense with a bit of romance. I liked the premise of the story but it seemed a bit slow, to me. It read like maybe it's geared towards young adults. I liked the main characters and I liked the family aspect to the story. I thought the ending was done well and I appreciated the fun twist at the very end.
When her niece gets the job of a lifetime, going on an archaeological dig in Egypt, Claudia can't help but be happy for her. But then, during her trip, Monica simply vanishes. So, Claudia heads to Egypt to try and find her.
To Claudia's shock and dismay, she finds out that Monica has run off with a young archaeologist who's known to have a questionable past. And it seems that she's the only one willing and able to go out and search for Monica.
Now Claudia finds herself all alone, on a life or death level treasure hunt. When she realizes that Monica was kidnapped by international terrorists, she finds herself in a race to get to her niece before the terrorists decide that they don't need her anymore.

This was an okay read that kept my interest enough to finish it. However, Claudia Rose was not very smart, although she thought she could discern everything about a person from analyzing their handwriting - past, present and future. I say this because she ignored all warnings and kept doing stupid things like going to the tower alone at dusk. It’s actually unbelievable she didn’t get her throat cut. I don’t think that’s a spoiler since we all know she had to live through the rest of the book. I have no idea where the title came from. Tiresome and unnecessary profanity. I was glad to finally reach the end.

I liked it. The story moves at a good pace and hold this reader’s attention. Monica’s dad’s arrest seems unnecessary and an entire subplot that just kind of sits there. I wondered if it was used to explain why Pete couldn’t look for Monica himself, but still a bit thin.

Brother accused of murder, niece kidnapped by a tomb robber. Claudia races off to Egypt to do what, I ask you? Be the hero in a novel, of course. I think this book is preposterous.

Monica is volunteering at an excavation site in Egypt. While there, she meets Archaeologist Colin Vine. Monicas friend McKenna Ryan warned her about Colin. He’s rumored to be a womanizer and was reportedly almost fired for hanging out with known tomb robbers!

Monica’s aunt Claudia Rose is a famous graphologist who studies handwriting. Her husband Joel Jovanic is a homicide detective. Claudia and Joel are at dinner when they get a call from Monica’s father Pete - he’s been arrested for murder in Arizona. Turns out that an old college acquaintance Mitch, who had tried to assault Pete’s dead wife in college, was murdered after an altercation in a bar. Pete says he’s innocent so they hire Robin Cross to represent him. Will she find the truth?

When Monica goes off the grid in Egypt, Claudia heads there to find her. She discovers incriminating info in Colin’s room during her search. What kind of danger has he gotten Monica involved in. Will Claudia be able to find her?

This is my first book by this author and my first read in the Claudia Rose series. Although I hadn’t read any of the prior books, I was able to follow along. I look forward to going back and reading the others.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
