I had received a digital ARC of the audiobook and enjoyed it so much that I snapped the book up when I saw it at the book shop! It's a delightful picture book about a family going to pride, but it also delves into the history of pride and its importance.

This is a great little book to tell a bit about the history of pride and what to expect as a child attending pride. The message of love and acceptance is throughout. thanks to dreamscape media for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

"twas the night before pride is the type of book i needed as a kid. This was a beautiful story. Joanna really knocked it out of the park. This is a great book for all LGBTQAI

This book review is a special one. My son is a year old but reading these books early and often reinforces the fact that families all look different. ♥️

Reviewed as part of Big Gay Fiction Podcast episode 377:
Jeff: Next up is “‘Twas the Night Before Pride” by Joanna McClintick, illustrated by Juana Medina. This wonderful book is told, as you might imagine, in verse, modeled after “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.” This book looks at Pride’s history in the Stonewall riots. It remembers AIDS marches, while also paying homage to community, inclusion, and the joy of pride. Vikas Adam does an incredible job on the narration of this very quick audio book. It’s just seven minutes. It was really wonderful to find this one that had an audio book attached to it.

*received for free from netgalley for honest review* great and very cute kids book! loved the artwork and the story.

A young child looks forward to attending a Pride celebration the following day with their two mothers and baby sibling. This book recounts the reasons to look forward to Pride and talks about how it got started at an age-appropriate level. The narration for the audiobook was good, and there was background music to make up for the lack of pictures. I enjoyed the audiobook, but I will be buying a physical copy of this book to give to my nieces! This book is a wonderful tool to talk to kids about various forms love can take.
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

Childtren’s Book/LGBTQIA/History/Pride
This was my first children’s audiobook. I’m not too sure how my kids (aged 2 & 4) liked it, they listened but they were distracted. I think if I had the book to go with it that would have been a hit. I liked the music and how it changed for the mini history lesson on the first Pride parade. As for the book aspect I loved it! I can’t wait to buy a hard copy and show my crew. It was open and fun and highlighted some really great talking points for kids both from and not from LGBTQIA families.
Special thank you to #NetGalley, #JoannaMcClintick and #DreamscapeMedia for sharing this digital copy, these are my honest thoughts on #TwasTheNightBeforePride. Also, a thank you to narrator #VikasAdamn.

So Charming!
I did the audio version of Joanna McClintick's 'Twas the Night Before Pride, and it was wonderful, but now I'm dying to see all of Juana Medina's colorful illustrations. The narrator, Vikas Adam, has a warm and appealing voice, and I think listening to the audio, while paging through the physical book, would be an incredible experience.
I highly recommend purchasing both versions of 'Twas the Night Before Pride to share with your kids. What a perfect addition to any family library!

Just really sweet. Nice illustrations, cute rhymes, a bit of Pride history, celebrating the diverse community...what more could you want!? I get so happy every time I see LGBTQIA+ representation, ESPECIALLY in picture books. I would absolutely recommend this for anyone looking for an explanation of Pride at this reading level.

as i was listening to this recording i purchased it for my daughter. i love the storyline intertwined with the history of pride. this is a book you MUST HAVE on your shelf. ♥️

'Twas the Night Before Pride by Joanna McClintick.
My reveiw:
When I tell you this book was everything, I mean it. It was very lovely!! It provides insight into the nature of pride and is perfect for younger readers! Thank you very much to the author for providing early access; I'm delighted I read it!

This is a very cute book for kids about pride and the history of pride parades!!
The narrator is a child with two mom's who is EXCITED to show off who they are and how their family got to where they are. They explain some of the history of stonewall in a kid appropriate way and bring it back to present pride parades. Twas the Night Before Pride is short, sweet and also very meaningful! Pure queer joy.
The narration was very good and I would definitely recommend the audio book along with the physical copy as this book has pictures!! Could be fun for kids to listen and look.

This book is very cute and very entertaining for young readers. The background music throughout the narration really adds "color" to the narration that would have been lacking without the pictures of the physical book.

I think I would enjoy the physical book more than the audiobook, but either way, I love that this book exists! A children's book to talk about Pride and the history of Pride!
I didn't love this line: “My mom told us all we should go to bed early. She’s that kind of mom who’s more boyish than girly. ” That's still reinforcing annoying gender stereotypes and expectations.
The rhyme scheme worked most of the time, but there were a few places where it felt forced.
But I still recommend this book for anyone wanting a child-appropriate way to talk about Pride and LGBTQ people and the history of Pride.

I am currently very busy so I don’t have time to do the full review this deserves but this was amazing!!! It was informative but still digestible and engaging for younger ages; granted I’m a childless, 20 y/o, only child BUT I did baby sit a lot as a kid and I am around a fair amount of kids. I would definitely buy this for someone who has kids and I have already recommended it to a few people just over text because I really enjoyed the way that was done. The play off of the ‘Twas the night before Christmas’ was done so well and, again I’m 20 but, it made my inner child excited and I really enjoyed listening!
The narrator did a great job with using their inflection to add to the story and I really enjoyed how they did it. I do want to say that I did listen at 1.75x speed, however I do normally listen from 2x -3.5x speed, so that is a fairly slowed down pace for me; which generally for me if it isn’t a very dense and heavy book it means it was engaging enough narration wise I had to slow to get the full effects.

This is a lovely way to introduce a kiddo to Pride. My daughter is 5 and enjoy this short story. She does have Guncles and we have talked to her about Pride since she was a baby, so this isn’t a new concept but rather a nice way for her to get some background with a lovely message. I think the physical book, with pictures, will be a wonderful addition to any home.
Thank you Netgalley and DreamScape Media for the opportunity to listen to this in exchange for an honest review!

This is an awesome way to teach kids the history of Pride!
This is done in the vein of 'twas the night before Christmas, but queer.
Very clever, descriptive, fun, highly informative and short enough to be palatable for tiny humans.
The narrator was not for me, I think reading the print version would be even better!
Much love to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my DRC

T’was the Night Before Pride is a wonderful audiobook to open the discussion about pride with children. It provided a great starting point to talk to my kids and we were able to elaborate from there.
The narration is really well done and easy to listen to. I don’t know if I loved the underlying music, but with an audiobook this length, it wasn’t that big of a deal and added to the ambiance.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the advance audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was a fun fast read. I loved the cadence of the audiobook and how soothing it was. At first I thought it was just going to be about getting ready for pride and all the different things they would see, but I loved the inclusion of the history of the first pride. The rhyming was a little less smooth at those points but it was a really important story so it doesn't detract from the book. Overall a great book for pride!
