Any military related story gets my blood pumping. Add in some hot Green Berets and we have ourselves the beginning of a great story. This book touches on the good, the bad, and the ugly of military and combat life. However, it also touches on the hopes any service member can find if they are looking for it. I am so glad the Rick and Cynthia could mesh their very different lives together in this amazing story. The book kept me tuned in and on the edge of my seat from the beginning.
This is my first book by Hallee Bridgeman and it surely will not be last. The author has an intense and incredible way of fusing military action and adrenaline with tender romance to create a fast-paced, cannot-put-down story. I have not read a romantic suspense before that front-loads the action at the beginning of the book and then moves on to character and romance development in the second half of the book, but it works really well for this particular book.
I loved Rick, the captain of the special op unit. He's a soldier, protector, and guardian through and through and his big heart and bigger loyalty to his team and Cynthia made him a fantastic hero. Cynthia was a bit harder to get to know but once she opened up to Rick, her tender, compassionate, but often stubborn, heart was easy to see and admire. Rick and Cynthia's unwavering faith, even in the midst of physical and emotional turmoil, was inspirational.
I can't wait to read the next books in the series to find out more about Bill and Ozzy, two of the team members who have prominent roles in this book. I received the book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
Intense!!! Follow one of the US Military’s elite special forces teams as they do what they do best! You will be on the edge of your chair and will not be able to put down this first book in the Love and Honor Series. Once again Hallee Bridgeman brings situations, places, and people to life. If you like clean, inspirational romance, with patriotism and dedication to duty thrown in, don’t miss it!
This was a new author for me. Her writing style was wonderfully smooth. The story was packed full of emotions. I did enjoy a Christian look at the U.S. military. I did question a little bit how all the characters could be in the physical places that the author put them in, yet I reminded myself that this was a story. This author knows how to twine true/adventure with fiction. I do plan to suggest this book to a few of the people that use the same library as I do.
Intense, action packed and realistic describes the first book in the Love and Honor series. Those readers who enjoy military drama will love this story. The characters are realistic and likeable. As a pacifist, Dr. Cynthia Myers struggles with the loss of life through violence. Capt. Rick Norton, a member of the Army Special Forces faces life and death in war and will do anything to protect his team and the mission. Tension rises as their paths cross in deadly uprising in Africa. The author portrays the military life in an accurate manner. Great job with the nicknames! Rick was truly the 'Daddy' of the team. Loved that both Rick and Cynthia had a deep faith. Highly recommended!
This novel opens with lots of action, and tension as readers meet Captain Rick Norton, and his team in, Katangela, Africa. They are on a mission to extract American doctor Cynthia Myers from Katangela. This assignment wouldn’t be easy, as an angry warlord is determined to avenge the death of his son and will kill anyone in his way.
Cynthia is deep in the jungle on the path of this murderer. Captain Rick Norton and his men are on this special Op at the request of the Vice President of the United States, so they would do what is necessary to complete their task. After the intense, traumatic, extraction, the Captain and Doctor head for the states. The transition to civilian life was never easy, as the extreme violence they experienced doesn’t just go away when they are home.
Since this author was raised in a military family and has been married to a military man for many years. The author effectively shows how being in the military puts a strain on the soldier and family. Readers could sense the strain through main characters Captain Norton, head of the Special Forces “A-Team” and Dr. Cynthia Myers.
These larger-than-life characters jump off the page and into my heart. They become real as the author shares vivid detail of war and the decisions they make. These details weren't graphic, and didn’t bog the reader down, but helped them run in the African Jungle with the characters. This riveting story has you in the middle of the action traveling with this Army Special Forces A-Team, as they seek extraction for the wounded. I loved how the author shared scripture verses, and spiritual issues of the heart naturally. I didn’t feel preached at.
Warning, you will be up late reading. I cared for these characters as the situation became more dangerous and the conflict more complex. This is an insightful, thought-provoking book that will stay with you long after you close the book. It’s one that would work for your book club too. This author is one to watch.

This book is an action packed thrill ride. Dr. Cynthia Meyers is working in the jungle when she meets up with Capt. Rick Norton and his crew. The highly specialized task force of green berets headed by Capt. Rick Norton is tasked with ridding the jungles of an evil warlord. When Dr. Meyers identity becomes a liability, (she is the daughter of the Vice President of the United States) and two of his men are wounded in need of care they make a harrowing escape through the jungle to rescue. Feelings start to happen and are cemented when once again Capt. Norton and his men are called in to save the day.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading about the other men in this specialized group.
Thank you to NetGalley and Revell for the opportunity to read and review.
This is an interesting read. Having a Vice President of the US so in tune with his family and a strong Christian who lives his faith without scandal feels foreign in our day.
This story gives an inside look into what it’s like to have secret service infiltrating every part of your private life.
The main characters must escape danger in Africa and then figure out how they can be a couple while still following the path God laid out for each of their lives.
There are some heart stopping moments as the story unfolds.
I received a copy of this book....
Great Story.
Full of action and plot twists.
Looking forward to reading more books in the series.
This is high-octane romantic suspense centered around an obstetrician, Dr. Cynthia Myers, and the head of a special forces team, Captain Rick Norton. Cynthia is in Africa doing medical missions when a warlord threatens her and the entire village where she is practicing. One of Captain Norton’s missions is to safeguard Cynthia, so he does, killing various enemies in the process. Cynthia, a pacifist by nature, is torn up by the violence and does not understand why Rick has to kill people as part of his job. The action in this book is absolutely non-stop. I was a little put off by the three or so pages of military jargon in a glossary at the beginning of the book, but I did find referring to those acronyms useful more than once. This is a dynamic and riveting page turner, with a fast pace that never let up. Rick is coming to grips with his career, his failure to safeguard all of his men, and his growing feelings for Cynthia while Cynthia is in denial about her feelings for Rick and determined to forge a future without him. The story of their romance is a roller coaster ride of emotions. There is a great deal of depth to the story as the two separately explore their feelings and their faith in God. The plot was well-crafted and multi-layered with insightful looks into the lives of those in the spotlight and the warriors tasked to protect them. The character studies are fascinating and cleverly written to move the story along. With a unique perspective of military life and sacrifice, this book was enjoyable entertainment and a delightful story at the same time. I sincerely look forward to the next book in this series by the author.

Dr. Cynthia Myers is using her talents in a remote African village when trouble pulls up to her doorstep. As she's unable to save the life of the evil warlord's son she finds herself face to face with a killer. Enter Captain Rick Norton. As leader of the special ops A-Team he is responsible for everything. When his mission forces him to Dr. Myers' village he walks in on her facing down a gun. From there his training kicks in and his heart betrays him.
I enjoyed this story from start to finish. I liked the ebb and flow this author embedded in her writing. She did not follow the typical build up and then ease off. She had mutiple moments of build, a bit of ebbing, and more building. She left me searching for when the next book in the series will be released and wanting more. I enjoyed her unique style. This story is packed with action, suspense, romance, heartbreak, uncertainty, faith shaking, faith finding, tentative hope, renewal, humor, and honor. I'm excited to have found a new-to-me author. I liked Captain Norton's character. He felt relatable and "real". While I did not always like the direction his story took I suspect his journey is more like real life than most fiction novels I have read. And I loved Bridgeman's sense of humor conveyed through the characters and nicknames of the A-Team.
I relish the opportunity to watch this author grow as the series develops and she shares her vision and imaginaton with us.
Thank you, NetGalley and Revell, for the chance to read this fun story. All opinions are my own.
Halle Bridgeman, a new author to me has penned an interesting book. This book takes us on a journey around the world. The main character, Cynthia is a missionary in Africa. This book is actioned packed and I devoured it in a day and a half.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Netgalley. All opinions expressed are mine.
Honor Bound is the first book I’ve read by Hallee Bridgeman. Definitely won’t be my last. This book was one of the few ‘read it in two days had to keep reading’ stories of the year. Wow.
The basic premise has Special Forces Captain Rick Norton seeking urgent care for two of his men. They’re wounded while trying to subdue an evil African warlord who is terrorizing his country. Intelligence tells them there’s a small village with an American doctor working for a charity and the men make their way there. They arrive just in time to stop the warlord’s men from killing the doctor and her staff.
From then the battle to save two lives intersects with the fight to keep everyone alive and get them to the capital city to the relative safety of the US Embassy. Dr Cynthia Myers doesn’t keep her pacifist opinions to herself and clashes repeatedly with Rick until their trek though the jungle turns perilous and she’d forced to rely on his skill.
Back in the capital her father and his entourage arrive and put everyone in danger. His new role as the Vice President complicates everything and Cynthia appeals to Rick when events spiral out of control. she begins seeing him in a new light and romance blossoms. But can the pacifist truly love and support a man who fights, even if he’s fighting to bring peace?
As a military wife who has stayed home on her knees through plenty of deployments, this book resonated to my core. The action and emotion is realistic but mixed with enough light not to be overwhelming. The journey to the happy ending is bumpy enough to reflect military life and I couldn’t put the book down. Except for church and sleeping and feeding my children, I read until I reached the end.
Happily, there are three books in the series, all releasing this fall, so you won’t have to wait long for the rest. I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley. The gushing opinions are all my own.
I just finished reading this book and must say, it was hard to put down!
This was my first book by this author, but I liked the way she wrote, which was with confidence in the topics of both the military and political lifestyles. And very realistic dialogue, IMHO.
I plan to read the other two books in the series as they are released later this year.
I received this book from the publisher via net galley in exchange for an honest review. Five stars!
Honor Bound was absolutely amazing! Full of action, adventure, and love. While the storyline was both beautiful and suspenseful it was also full of beautiful life lessons about trusting God and sacrifice, and being less judgemental. I highly recommend this book!
Honor Bound by Hallee Bridgeman is the first book in the Love and Honor Series. Dr. Cynthia Myers is serving as a medical missionary in the small African village of Katangela. Her specialty is obstetrics, but she serves in any capacity as is needed for the people in the war-torn jungle. Warring gangs have terrorized the villages and the local families try to hide their children and avoid a particular group called Chukuwereije. Dr. Cynthia Myers is approached by a group of the Chukuwereije to operate and try to save the son of their leader. The man is dying before Dr. Cynthia could help him, and the angry rebels put a gun to her head.
Captain Rick Norton commands a special "A" team with the objective of subduing the Chukuwereije warlord. His special forces group has encountered fire and two of his men have taken bullets. Captain Rick Norton is aware of Dr. Cynthia Myers because part of his secret mission is to locate her. Rick knows if he can get his men to her, they will receive medical help to enable them to make it back to the helicopter for the rescue. When Rick walks into the village he sees the doctor is being threatened and with part of his team they shoot the rebels. Cynthia is shocked, relieved, and angry! She has a very strong belief in the sanctity and value of human life, even for the rebels. Rick does not understand her reasoning that he could have let the rebels kill her in order to save their lives. I thought she was being unreasonable, also. Cynthia gets busy trying to save Rick's two team members. One has been shot in a femoral artery and the other has a bullet lodged next to his heart. After the surgeries, Rick is anxious to get his team back on the move toward the pickup point. He realizes it will be necessary for the doctor to travel with them so she can monitor the two injured men.
Cynthia's father was a senator when she left home to serve in the jungle. Recently her father has been asked to serve as VP to the US president. Cynthia's father has decided to pull her out of the jungle due to the violence. Her presence there could become a liability in a politically unstable area.
I won't post spoilers, but the trek through the jungle with two soldiers in critical condition, while avoiding being captured or killed by the rebels becomes a harrowing journey!
I appreciate the faith-based military suspense! The whole book is interesting and has wonderful characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the opportunity to read this book. The publication date is September 6, 2022.
Honor Bound is an action filled romantic military suspense! It grabbed me from the first page and I devoured it in two days. The story takes us from Africa to Kentucky to North Carolina and some stops in between. I fell in love with each character. I especially loved the hero, Rick. He was tough, intelligent and so caringly tender. The heroine, Cynthia was a fearless doctor willing to do what it took to help her patients.
With a nail biting storyline I finished the book with a satisfied sigh. I am eagerly waiting for the next two books in the series.
*I was given a copy of this book by Revell Publishers. This is my honest opinion.
Unfortunately I struggled getting into this book and connecting with the characters. It looks like many other people enjoyed this book, so I’m probably in the minority. If you are interested in trying a new-to-you author, it’s definitely worth a try.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
Dr. Cynthia Myers, an obstetrician and daughter to the VP of the USA, is working with a charitable group in Africa in a remote village. A local warlord is enraged when she cannot save his injured son who has been shot. The Army Special Forces team that is in the area and did the shooting is able to rescue the doctor and get her out of danger. Captain Rick Norton is the leader of that team and takes a personal interest in the doctor.
This is a riveting story with a lot of breathless moments in it. I could not stop reading! I highly recommend this to anyone who likes action packed stories. Can't wait for Book 2 of this series!
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
I have always loved Hallee Bridgemen's books and was excited to read the first book from her newest Love and Honor series, Honor Bound. So so good. Five stars.
