Vera Swanson has recently sold her home and moved to a condo. She is lonely and adjusting to living in a new place when Fiona Albright knocks on her door. Fiona and her family live across the hall and Fiona’s mother is not well.
After Vera helps get Mrs. Albright to the hospital, and Fiona back home with her to wait for her siblings to get home from school, Fiona notices a quilts on Vera’s bed. Fiona knows that her mom would love a quilt just like it and convinces Vera she should make one.
To be able to complete the quilt in time, Vera will need help. What comes together is a group of women who have nothing in common except wanting to learn to quilt. Or do they? Maybe there is more to each of these women than it appears and maybe this quilt is just what they all needed to heal, to form a unique friendship, and to help a family just in time for Christmas.
I LOVED this story. We are still in the triple digits here so reading about a cooler time of year was wonderful! More importantly, the message in this story is one of friendship, love, faith, and the reason we celebrate Christmas. Seeing these women come together to help the Albright family along with learning to love and care for each other is such a big part of what the Christmas season is about. Melody Carlson wrote a fabulous book that I did not want to end. I wanted to know more about the characters and what happened next. In my opinion, that is a sign of a good story, when i just don’t want it to end. I think many readers will love this story.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from Revell. All views are simply my honest opinion.
4.5 stars
I've read many of Carlson's books, and they never fail to disappoint (especially the Christmas novella!).
The story contains such a wonderful group of women, and this is an inspiring tale of faith and friendship, and the true spirit of Christmas shines through! While I enjoyed each character, Fiona and Eleanor (yes, Eleanor!) were probably my favorites. Their growth throughout the story is so encouraging. If you're looking for a sweet read to get you in the holiday mood, this heartwarming tale is one to check out!
A Quilt for Christmas has all of the things that you're looking for in a holiday title. Lots of love, a sense of community, and new friendships being forged. I absolutely loved it!
Thank you NetGalley, Melody Carlson and Revell for the ARC of A Quilt for Christmas. This is my personal review.
I found this book to be just a perfect novella to put me in the holiday spirit.
Seeing how a quilt coming together can bring people together in such a tender way made for a beautiful, wonderful story. This is a story I will tell everyone to read to give them a hug of holiday joy.
A sweet quick holiday read. Vera will be alone for Christmas until she gets involved with her neighbors. Suddenly, she’s meeting strangers who turn into friends and hurriedly making a quilt.
There even a grinch character to make it really Christmasy.
The holiday spirit of family, giving, new hope, and togetherness shine through in this short novella.
Melody Carlson was one of my very first introductions into Christian fiction as a teenager. I have continued to enjoy her writing as an adult... particularly her Christmas stories! I am always excited to check them out each year, and this year was no exception with A Quilt for Christmas.
This was such a sweet story about community and unlikely friendship. I love this idea that four very different women came together on a mission to create a complicated quilt in just a few short weeks, to help a child do something special for her mother. It was definitely a feel good story that is so much needed, not just around the holiday but always. Each woman was unique and well written, and I enjoyed seeing them drawn together. As a novella, this was a very quick read, but I didn't feel like it was missing anything due to it's length. Sure, I might have actually enjoyed a full length romance for Tasha, but nothing felt rushed or incomplete. I also personally am a big fan of Christmas novellas particularly because the holidays do tend to be a busier time and I don't always have as much time for reading.
Overall, this was a fantastic read. Fans of Melody Carlson's Christmas stories are certainly going to want to add this to their collection, and those who've never experienced them before might just become new fans themselves!
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
A sweet book that brings the Christmas Spirit no matter what time of year you are reading it.
A little girl by the name of Fiona changed a group of women's lives. Her sweet disposition made such a difference. You never know the impact you have on others. The Christmas season can be difficult for some. We need to remember that Christmas is more than the decorations, the food and the gifts.
I really enjoyed the story. It messed up my sleep but it was worth it.
A Quilt For Christmas wraps you up in the comforts of the holiday season.
I received this for free from Revell to review.
If you love Christmas movies like The Holiday and The Christmas Prince, this is the read to warm your heart with this December. The queen of feel-good fiction, and this Yuletide yarn certainly ticks all our boxes. A seasonal romance as warm and welcome as a mug of mulled wine. You’ll want to curl up with a hot choc to read this warm hug of a festive book.
Such a delightful novella that caught my heart from the beginning. Perfect to read anytime of the year even though it is set around Christmas. It’s amazing how a young child and a quilt sets the storyline for friendship, family, and healing.
All words and opinions are my own. I was give. A copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.
I look forward to Carlson’s Christmas novella every year. This one is a lovely story centering around a woman whose traditional Christmas’s have been derailed, then she meets a sweet child who changes everything. Four-year-old Fiona spreads Christmas joy just by being her sweet, precocious self. As the quilt comes together, so do the lives of the most unexpected quilters. This story is about healing and transformation and Carlson does a beautiful job telling this wonderful story. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was a delightful read, kept me engaged until the end.
Our book club traditionally reads a Christmas novella for our December meeting, and I will certainly recommend this one.
I received this book from the publisher via net galley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy melody Carlson’s holiday novels because they are short and heartwarming. They draw you in so quickly and you keep reading to see how the relationships unfold. I can usually predict all the plot twists but this one even surprised me, but in a great way!
A Quilt for Christmas by Melody Carlson will capture your heart this Christmas season! A perfect, heartwarming Christmas story all about love, forgiveness, and offering a helping hand to those in need during the holiday season. This book gave me all the feels, Christmas vibes and more! 5 stars! Thank you to Baker Publishing and Revell for sending me a copy to honestly read and review!
About the story: Vera Swanson always loved Christmas. But this year, after selling her home and making the effort to move closer to her children and grandchildren in a condo, Vera finds herself in a situation where she will be alone this Christmas. That is, until she meets sweet little 4-year-old Fiona and her family, the Albrights. Even though Vera’s husband has passed, and her Children had to move away, little Fiona’s big heart will make all the difference for Vera and so many others this Christmas.
Vera meets Fiona in an emergency for her mother – she knocks on Vera’s door because her mother is having stomach pains and needs help immediately. Since Vera is her neighbor, she immediately rushes Fiona’s mother to the hospital to get her the care she needs. With Fiona’s father working away from home, Vera helps take care of Fiona and her siblings in the meantime while their mother recovers. Fiona sees Vera’s beautiful quilts in her condo and has a beautiful Christmas wish for her mother – a Christmas quilt!
Vera is an expert in making quilts and wants to do everything she can to make this dream come true for them. The Albrights have been through a tough time, moving to Oregon with hardly any possessions and this would mean the world to little Fiona! With the help of Fiona and her siblings, Vera recruits 3 women, Tasha, Eleanor, and Beverly and together, they all work to make a Christmas quilt blessing for the Albrights happen before Christmas arrives!
This was a beautiful Christmas read and I loved the faith, friendship and lessons learned in this story. God worked in a beautiful way in the families of this story. Vera was alone, Tasha meets a sweet guy, Eleanor needed a friend, The Albrights were in need – this story had so many beautiful Christmas blessings and I loved it.
The characters in this story were so sweet. I also love we got to see them decorate, visit a tree farm, make a Christmas quilt and celebrate Christmas together.
• Vera reminded me of my grandmother in so many ways.
• To see the transformation Eleanor makes over the course of this novella – God worked in her life, through her grief and struggles – to help her overcome her difficulties.
• Tasha was also a sweet, creative young woman who truly cared to help others.
• Beverly – love her and her love for baking!
• Fiona - the sweetest little girl who stole my heart!
This is a new favorite Christmas read and I will be re-reading this for the Christmas season in the future! I can’t wait to talk about this on my channel and will update my review with my video review as soon as I upload it.
A sweet read for the season. The characters will entertain you. A small child will heal and bring people together
For anyone who wants a simple, straightforward, heartwarming and inspiring book this is perfect. I read it over the summer but can imagine it being so lovely to read in the run up to Christmas all snuggled under a quilt like the one the ladies make in the book. A pleasure to read.
This is a wonderful Christmas story. I have not come across the Author before but will be looking out for more of her books. Vera is a widow who sold her family home and moved a long way to be near her Daughter and Grandchildren. No sooner had she done rhis than her Son in Laws job changed requiring a move even further away. One day while freling lonely Vera heard a knock at her door with a cry for help from 4 year old Fiona. Her Mother was very ill and Vera drove them to ER. Vera soon learned there were 2 older Chdren who would need looking after when school finished. Fiona saw a beautiful patchwork quilt on Vera's bed and pleaded with her to make one for her Mummy for Christmas only a few weeks away. Vera enlisted 3 novice but eager to help ladies to complete the task. This story of family, loss, friendships, romance and new beginnings is delightful and I highly recommend you read this at any time of year.
What a sweet Christmas story! Vera's life changes when scared four year old Fiona asks for help for her sick mother. The quilt becomes a path for friendship, love and healing as four women who did not know each other come together for a great cause. Readers will adore Fiona. Loved learning about each of the characters' background. Each year I look forward to the author's Christmas story. Highly recommended!
Vera Swanson is not looking forward to Christmas this year! After relocating to be near her daughter and family, she finds herself alone as they move away. When Fiona Albright knocks on her door needing help for her mother Vera is suddenly taking care of the family. When Fiona finds out Vera is a quilter she begs her to make a Christmas quilt for her mama. Since it is such a short time until Christmas Vera enlists the aid of a ragtag group of ladies to help her. As they work to finish the quilt friendships are formed and Vera finds herself a family for Christmas!
Thanks to Melody Carlson and Revell for the book!
A quick paced heartwarming read, and the catalyst is a four year old delightful little girl.
As a quilter I was cringing when a few weeks before Christmas a little girl requests a neighbor to make a queen size quilt for her mother, but this is a project that is about to change many lives, for the better, and we are there as this gift unfolds!
The spirit of Christmas and the magic is works in peoples lives, and maybe lasting and wonderful deeds!
Get ready to have the tissues handy!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
A lovely, though slightly predictable Christmas novel.- there are plenty of Christmassy touches and a feel good ending. It checks all of the Holiday novel boxes.
