This book is a heartbreaking story of love, loss and strength of a woman who knows how the future of the lives she has in her hands be affected forever.
The story is based on the women who are Jews who are in Auschwitz and have their healthy babies removed from them and given to German families to raise. Ana feels that these women, who may survive Auschwitz find their babies after being enprisoned due to being a Jew.
I am giving a honest review for this book from NetGalley.
Totally moving, touching and beautifully written. This book was thought provoking. The author wrote this so sensatively.
A deep story that reached inside my soul and made it burn. As a mother to a toddler, this made my heart hurt as I read it. Wow, the emotions that emerge from you and compel you to keep reading - it’s incredible.
Based on a true story.
That’s a thumbs up sentence for me.
This was a poignant emotional read, I got right into this story hook line and sinker, I lived it, I was totally engrossed and it gives you “all the feels”. I even shiver and have a lump in my throat when writing this review.
Since this book I see the author Anna Stuart has written book 2 and book 3. Yep that’s how behind I am! Will I get the other books? For sure.
Historical fiction readers will love this.
I generally am very intrigued by any book that involves the holocaust. The content definitely pulls on your heartstrings and the premise is heavy. I liked the writing and the two characters it followed.
Such a heartbreaking book! I laughed, I cried (more than once) & I was really 🤔 invested in the characters.
I love this authors work & I can’t wait to read more!
This is inspired by a true story. This is so powerful and has strong female characters. It is well written and so hard to stop reading. It is so heartbreaking.
This story alternates between the narratives of both Ester a young Jewish nurse and Ana a Polish catholic. This is a heart wrenching story about friendship, motherhood and over all survival. How anyone survived a death camp is remarkable. My heart ached for both women but particularly young Ester.
By the end of the book you’ll be left heartbroken that it doesn’t end how you wish it would. But it was still a satisfying yet a tearful ending. Anna Stuart tells a wonderful tale and is a skillful storyteller and would recommend this story anyone who loves historical fiction.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book by Anna Stuart.
5 stars- so interesting to read, fast paced inspired by a true story about Ana who declares herself a midwife and her friend ester her assistant who got put in the Maternity Hut in Auschwitz this is their story,
As a labor nurse I could definitely get into this book with ease. Such a heartfelt and thrilling point of view.
Oh my word I don’t know if I can even put into words how good this book was. Fantastic doesn’t even do it justice. An emotional , heartbreaking read,
A heartbrealing but complusive read. It is a time in history we must never forget or sweep under the capret. Book such as these show the horror and daily reality from a different perspective. hank you for the chance to read it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC of The Midwife of Auschwitz by Anna Stuart. Historical Fiction set in WW2 is my favorite even though the subject matter is heavy. This was a beautiful, poignant, moving tale of the midwives who delivered children - German, Jewish, and many other races - while imprisoned by the Nazis as Auschwitz-Birkenau. While difficult to read at times, the author managed to find the beauty in the smallest ways. I was touched by the portrayal of these strong women who delivered life in the face of unrelenting death and misery. Overall, a perfect, 5-star read that will touch your heart!
Based 9n true events this is a fictional story. Set in Auschwitz it tells the story Ana & Esther care for pregnant mothers during their hard times at Auschwitz. An emotional read but recommend for fans of historical fiction.
This novel made me angry at the treatment and left me wondering how anyone survived. This kind of reading is something I particularly appreciate since it should never be forgotten and should never occur again. This is my sincere opinion, and I look forwards to reading future novels by this author.
Oh, wow. What a book!
A story about female friendship, love, adversity, humanity, survival, digging deep, grief and despair - and so much more. Based on truth, this book really does make an impact. A powerful story, with strong female characters.
I enjoyed the female bond with Ester and Ana, watching this unfold and develop over time. Anna Stuart does a remarkable job of putting us in the time period, depicting the harrowing events, cruelty and trauma - trigger warnings to be expected, particularly around childbirth and birth trauma. I got a lump in my throat on a few occasions reading this, due to the nature of the content and the connection I felt to the characters - I was rooting for them.
A happy ending, of sorts, that didn’t sugar coat the reality. I will never get my head around this catastrophic event - so many lives, so much cruelty, pain and suffering. The Midwife of Auschwitz is a powerful read and one I highly recommend if you are a lover of historical fiction, strong female friendships and ultimately, survival.
I have no words for this book. It was incredible. It’s well written. It’s based on a true story. It’s hard to believe the courage that they were able to find and hold onto in the horrific circumstances. Ana and Esther worked together as a team and were absolutely incredible. I wish I had more words for how good this book is
Highly recommend!
Another amazingly Heart-wrenching, emotional read by Anna Stuart. Based on a true story The Midwife of Auschwitz is a story of what one women will do for the people she cares about and for what is right no matter the cost.
I love Anna's writing style, I loved the characters, all the history and events left me wanting to know more. This is one that will stay with me for a long time.
Anna Stuart is very skilled at writing stories that draw you in from the very first page. Her stories take you on an emotional rollercoaster, you feel like you are right there beside the characters.
The setting and themes make this story a hard one to read but it is an important one for everyone. I highly reccomemnd this and all of Anna Stuarts other books
What an emotional and incredible read, really amazing writing and such an important tale about a Time In history that must never be forgotten.
WOW what a fantastic read. Extremely hard to read in places, what the Jewish people went through and the strength and courage the Poles showed. The novel shows the strength and courage but also the pure evil the human race can do to one another. Excellent read
