I had a hard time getting into this book, partly because I felt so bad for Lanre, and partly because I couldn’t quite figure out where the story was going. I did keep wondering whether it was a memoir. Perhaps it was partially autobiographical?
It was certainly a coming of age story, and perhaps a cautionary tale for those trying to make it in the entertainment business—watch out for others who want to use you. Lanre certainly was on a roller coaster for most of the book. Does he make it? Is he really a rock star? Does he live happily ever after?
Guess you’ll have to read the book to find out!

It was a quick read, and was great for the audience! Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the book as much, not being the target audience. But I'm sure, people are gonna love it nevertheless!
First novel i've read from A H Mohammed, and i really enjoyed it, Was quite a quick read.
Seeing Lanres' life go from being in school to becoming famous was interesting, seeing how his life changed completely when he ran away from home and became famous.
I Was A Teen RockStar was a quick read and a bit of a roller coaster! Lanre is living with his aunt and wants to be a musician. The book tells you to alway follow you dreams but also shows a bit of what can happen even if you do follow your dreams and they seem to come true - everything is not always what it seems.
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
It was enjoyable to read. I adored the characters and the concept; I only wish the story was longer. Thank you for the ARC, Netgalley!
