Lane Callaghan is an abomination. She won the genetic lottery and is the daughter of a sun fae and a blood fae. As the only one of her kind, she hasn't had it easy.
"I'm a monster for monsters."

After an unfortunate incident involving a long fall and a little impaling, Lane ditched the only place she called home. With her two sisters in tow, Lane set up a private investigation business that did less investigating and more debt collecting.
"They call me monster, but it's monsters who haunt my nightmares, hands slamming in my back..."

A routine case causes chaos to enter her life, as the woman she was paid to bring in is part of a much bigger plot that threatens the lives of all sun fae. The sun stones are stolen and Lane is probably the best person to find them. These sacred objects the sun fae use to funnel their magic. Without them, they will perish. The thing is, Lane couldn't give a shit about the sun fae. They could all burn for all she cares. As an outcast, she was tormented by the sun fae. Why save the people who hate and look down on you. Unfortunately, her father and adopted sisters would be one of the many who would suffer. Lane is stuck in a hard place, but her hand is forced when the people at the very top ask her for help.
"I had to help the sun fae. At least I could make sure they knew who saved them. Shove it down their throats. Here's your hero: the mutt, the abomination, the monster. I'd have posters made."

Lane is going into this case in the hopes that when she recovers the stolen sun stones, she will earn the respect and acceptance she has always craved from the sun fae. She hopes that they will stop treating her with distain and derision.
"One day, you'll show them all how wrong you they are about you. You're not a monster. You're not a monster. You're not a monster."

She wants what everyone wants, acceptance. The cost of acceptance might be more than she is willing to give. How far would you go to prove yourself? How far would you go to save your loved ones? Lane toes the line to both of those questions and suffers major consequences.
"Acceptance might have been what I wanted, but it was never what would make me whole."

I think what was most poignant was how Lane regarded her mother. This one throwaway line was the most depressing analysis of how deeply rooted Lane's search for acceptance manifested in following her mother's career, not for the love of helping but to have what she has - respect.
"I'd aspired to be like her- respected, loved, necessary."

Bad Girls Drink Blood is an urban fantasy set in a multi-realm world with all sorts of creatures and fae. The worldbuilding is interesting and complex but can get a little confusing in explaining the nuances between the different species and factions. You get the general gist soon enough and you are soon emersed in a funny mystery with betrayals, plot twists and anxiety inducing action.

Lane and her sisters are the heart of the story. The love they share is the backbone and strengthens the story. I love sisterhood and the bickering. I think at times, the sisters attitudes feel a little harsh and unjust towards Lane. Ultimately, you can feel the love between the three, the unshakable bond and it sings. It gives the book colour. It gives it heart.
"Mom and Dad might have adopted us into the family, but you, Y'sindra, and me, we're sisters We don't need to share blood for that to be true. Where you go, I go."

The romance is a friendship-to-lovers. I confess, it is not my favourite trope. My heart yearns for enemies-to-lovers so when Duskemere shows up, I prayed that this was the eventual endgame. It is a little shocking the romance wasn't between Lane and Duskmere, the handsome, boy-hero, turned honourable captain of the guard, who works with Lane in the sun stones mystery. I mean, I still am kinda holding out a little hope but I know it is futile and very unlikely.

Lane's relationship with Teddy was something I had to warm up to. It felt too fast as the reader didn't see the developing friendship. Teddy is introduced as the hot owner of the bar that flirts with Lane but nothing has happened until now. The two of them were more cute and wholesome than I was expecting. I wanted filth but all I got is this t-shirt and a pamphlet to seek jesus.

Sure, I think in some parts, the cheese factor got a little much. Lucky for me I am not lactose-intolerant so it didn't bother me that much.

Bad Girls Drink Blood is criminally underrated and I think more should enjoy such a wild ride with the bloodthirsty Lane and her found family.

Choi's writing is vibrant and vivid, her world so alive, with characters who are three-dimensional. I would everything by S.L. Choi!

I enjoyed this book but it has taken me forever to read. At times i couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to see what would happen next and then I would just be so bored waiting for something to happen.

I don't enjoy reading such disjointed books so I don't think I'll bother with the rest of the series.

Lane is a hybrid fae. The only one in existence. She and her sisters run a PI business. OMG this one sitting read will throw you right into the action. Be warned there's gore and a friend's to lovers romance in between all of the action. It is fast paced but will pull you in. This is book one of the series, so we have a lot to look forward to.

I've been craving a new fae series to sink my teeth into, so when I saw Bad Girls Drink Blood on my NetGalley feed, I knew I had to try it right away. Written by S.L. Choi, Bad Girls Drink Blood is the first of what I hope will be a new series!

Everyone has a limit on how much abuse they can take. For Lane, crossing that limit meant it was time to move out of her fae home and try something different. Now she and her sisters run a detective agency. They'll take on any case that'll help them stay above water.

This is probably why Lane is about to get into a new mess of trouble. It started as something routine but quickly turned into a more dangerous game that brings the fae she's been avoiding right to her door.

Let me just say this: If you enjoy The Hollows series by Kim Harrison but need something to read between releases, you've got to read Bad Girls Drink Blood. It has a similar vibe, with sisters running a detective agency, mixed fae blood in their veins, and a stubborn streak a mile long. It'll feel like coming home, almost.

I enjoyed Bad Girls Drink Blood, though it took me a few moments to get into the story (I think that says more about the mood I was in than the story I was reading, being precise). It was fun and chaotic, with lots of magic to delve into.

Books like this are the reason why I love snatching up debut novels. You can find some gems, and for urban fantasy lovers, that new gem is Bad Girls Drink Blood. So read it!

This is a paranormal fantasy debut from the Author that has everything I love to read in this genre - particularly strong willed heroines facing events out of their control
The strong relationships Lane has around her , especially that of her sisters , provides support as the dishonour she feels due to her heritage - she sees herself as a monster - reveals the untapped powers of a druid
Dangerous opponents , both magical and mythical ? , are coming out of the woodwork , she is in their crosshairs - the intrigue abounds
A nice counterpoint to the dangers surrounding Lane is the potential friend to lover vibe from her were-wolf bartender friend- will they won't they ?
A thoroughly enjoyable read that leaves me looking forward to more in the same vein

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

Lane and her sisters work as private investigators in the fey world. When Lane finds a bag of stolen sunshards (fuel for Sun Fae magics) she and her sisters are drawn into a plot to overthrow the kingdom. With the help of a sexy werewolf bartender and grumpy royal guard, Lane might figure out what's happening before everyone she loves gets killed.

I love the characters in this book. They are all unique and vibrant. I look forward to seeing where the series goes next.

Thank you Netgalley and City Owl Press for the chance to read an advanced copy of Bad girls drink blood by SL Choi. I enjoyed this different take of fae in the snarky badass hybrid Lane. Its action-packed but I found it a bit confusing at times and a bit long. I normally enjoy badass main characters, but Lane was a bit too whiny throughout the story.

This book is fantastic! I thought it was intriguing and original. The characters were unique and the plot was filled with danger and a very sexy werewolf. The world building really draws you into the world of fae. I think I found another favorite author.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and hilarious the entire time. I didn't stop at any point because I was bored or uninterested. I love protagonists like Lane, they are strong willed, funny and all around bad ass females. Lane reminds me of characters like Aelin, Feyre, Jude, etc.

Without spoiling the plot, I felt like there was a good mix of chaos in the story to make it worth reading till the end. There have been a lot of books recently where there is no peak in conflict for the characters to overcome. This book is NOT that at all, it was a great book after the last couple that I read that didn't have the same kind of conflict.

Bad Girls Drink Blood by S. L. Choi is a epic fantasy with nonstop action involving a trio of sisters that are magical private investigators. This book has a very interesting magic system & the trio of sisters are all different types of fae. The main character of this book is one of the sisters, Lane, who is a hybrid & because of that & an attack on her, she fled her home. Lane is a sassy, tough & badass heroine, which I absolutely love. Eventually, her past comes knocking & there’s a race to discover what’s really going on.
It was a bit cheesy at times, but as long as you know what you’re going into, I think cheese can be good. There was also too much internal monologue for me. There were a few moments that felt repetitive, like we’ve already been told something so it didn’t seem necessary to bring it up again.
This book has a friends to lovers romance, which I think isn’t done enough of! I loved the hero Teddy! I loved that he showed his attraction by doing little acts to help & he also showed his belief in her capabilities & wanted her to believe in herself. That is a great hero in my opinion!
Bad Girls Drink Blood by S. L. Choi comes out May 17, 2022!

Massive thanks to NetGalley & City Owl Press for giving me the opportunity to read an arc of this in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger warnings: This book mentions &/or contains gore, violence & murder.

I will post on my Instagram before publication & add links once I do.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but there was almost too much happening in this book! I feel as though I haven't sat down once throughout the enitre book, I can only imagine how the MC feels! I did love the snarky banter and badassary Lane personified, and the whole blood fae quality was unique. I also thought the urban to fantasy settings were picturesque and exciting. Overall, this book was action packed, sexy, funny, epic and compelling.

Urban Fantasy has a new kick butt heroine in Lane Callaghan. A hybrid, her genetics give her an edge she uses to her advantage. With her sisters of the heart she runs a private investigative service that keeps the bets at the bar going.
The author has created a rich world of fae, shifters and other fantastic creatures and tossed our heroines into the mix. They not only survive they thrive. I really enjoyed Lane and her sisters. I eagerly look forward to more adventures with them all.

I was intrigued by the cover as it seemed something I would love to read, and after reading the blurb, I knew I had to try it. I was drawn immediately into the story as Lane is a very fun and interesting character, and the writing is smooth. Teddy is a great foil for Lane, and he gives her the confidence she sometimes lacks. I liked Lane’s sister, and I hope we see more of them in the next book. This book is filled with action, great characters, and an intriguing storyline. I did find it a bit wordier than I like, but that is just a personal preference, not anything that is wrong with the book or author. I’m eagerly waiting on the next book. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

A big thank you to NetGalley and City Owl Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a fun book. I think it is maybe the first in a new series? I did enjoy the book, but was sort of lost a couple of times. There is some basic information lacking and there are a lot of people to keep track of. I liked Lane and really enjoyed Teddy. This has a bit of everything romance, fantasy, suspense and a strong female lead. 4 stars

Meet Laney, a kick-ass investigator and hybrid-fae. She and her two adopted sisters, but mostly she, gets into trouble, captures bounties, and generally solves problems with knives (seriously, I'm not sure what her sisters even contribute to their business-- they didn't seem to offer intel, backup, or have anything to do with Laney deciding to pick up an extra gig on the side). When someone snipes her latest bounty, Laney stumbles across a plot that's connected with a past she'd rather not revisit.

I liked the story-- with some glaring exceptions. I'm not a fan of the whole fated mate thing, I think it's a little lazy (irresistible attraction, whatever shall we do?) and I always wonder if the whole mate thing cares whether or not the other person is decent or not. Because surely, there has to be some variance there. It's not outright stated that it's a fated-mates situation, but the signs are all there and I don't love it. Also, calling the guy a "male" is one of my worst pet-peeves. Sure, he isn't human, but it just feels so depersonalizing and awkward ("what this male does to me!").

I was also a little surprised when I hit the 48% mark and saw how much book there was left. It felt like it was building toward the final confrontation then, and then lost a lot of the momentum. The last half of the book feels a little scrambled, and some of the action scenes were hard to put together (where did the bad guy go? How did they circle around if he was trying to bust through a doorway, and why weren't the bad guys trying any other doors?). I think if the book were edited down a bit, that would improve things a lot. I also think some of the bad guy motivations are unclear-- do we ever figure out why they wanted the [object of theft] in the first place? Just to disrupt the royals? Isn't it said that only a particular type of fae can even use them?

I did generally like the storytelling. It was an interesting universe, focused on a badass lady protagonist (my favorite), and even though the characterizations were a little mixed at times (unemotional and detached, but also deeply caring for her sisters and other characters; she gets over her hesitation about her mate pretty quickly, despite some pretty fair misgivings-- him constantly trying to handle her shit or tell her what to do), I did like the main character.

When the book is done, the story still doesn't feel quite finished. The main objects of theft aren't all retrieved, we never find out who pushed her that one day, and how do you keep a druid imprisoned in the prison he made? Doesn't seem all there. But I did very clearly enjoy the book despite these issues-- I'm still giving it 4/5 stars. It was fun, had interesting characters, and was quite well-written. If I'd disliked it, I wouldn't have finished it.

This is a solid well written book with an interesting fantasy world.

You are thrown right in, and I wish I could have more of the sisters story before this - I really liked the idea of fantasy bounty hunting. At times I felt a bit lost since the world is explained as you go and there is a lot of secondary characters so there can be a lot to pick up at times.

There were some inconsistencies with the characters so I didn't get as invested in them as I would have liked, and they didn't feel as real as they could. That said I really liked the snarky voice of the main character and her interactions with her sisters were hilarious. The plot was well paced and action filled from the very start I was speeding through this.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book!

This was an okay book to read. I like the premise, but I felt there were a lot of inconsistencies in the character which made it hard to actually get into the book all the way and it felt a little bit like we were thrown into the book about halfway through the first chapter. Overall not bad, but not my total cup of tea.

Overall, the book was good, a very welcome entry into the UF genre. It had all the elements I like, a strong heroine with mad skills and a supportive family, a bad guy you detest, a lot of magic, and humorous moments to lighten the mood.

However, I'll be honest that it took me a few chapters to understand what was going on, as there wasn't much world building. The reader should be prepared to dive right in, which is not a bad thing. Also, it took a little bit for me to 'like' Lane; she has issues, some which were a momentarily off-putting. But that goes away fairly quickly as the story progressed. The secondary characters are great (there are MANY) and I hope that they can be more fleshed out in future stories.

Good book and I look forward the next story.

If I could describe this book with one word, it would be: magnificent

Lane was such a breath of fresh air! She was the perfect mix of bad ass, likeable, and normal. Heroines like her are what I often look for in my sci fi and fantasy books.

I enjoyed learning about the fae world and the different kind of creatures and magic—it was developed so well. Choi does a great job introducing us to the world and bringing in the secondary characters (including a certain sexy bartender who I absolutely adoooooored. But I don’t want to spoil the romance).

This book was a fun romp and can probably be enjoyed by those who don’t usually venture into reading urban fantasy or sci fi. I myself stick contemporary mostly but this was a surprising and engaging read. I honestly can’t think of anything critical to say about it!
