"Aura of Night" by Heather Graham is an atmospheric and chilling tale that weaves together elements of mystery and the supernatural, immersing readers in a world of suspense and intrigue.
4-4.5 Stars
Well, if I’m going to read books out of order, at least I got lucky and picked up Krewe of Hunters in an interesting story arc. The Law triplets have definitely gotten my attention. Maybe I can continue my backtracking while I’m waiting for Voice of Fear.
Readers met both Ragner and Megan in Sound of Darkness. For a lot of reasons, Megan wanted to put that time behind her, but that didn’t seem to be in the cards – for either one of them. Even though I’ve jumped into this series haphazardly, as I mentioned, I got lucky with where I started because of this particular story arc that’s not only centered around the Krewe of Hunters, but particularly around Colleen, Megan and Patrick Law – triplets with their own unique special powers. I do have to admit that before I picked up Sound of Darkness, I did read Phantom Evil just so I’d have a little bit of background and introduction to the series. It’s going to take a while, but I’ve since read Heart of Evil and Sacred Evil and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m now officially hooked. 😉
There was an attraction between Megan and Ragner that began in Sound of Darkness that neither one of them had any intention of acting on… again. Close proximity and the need that Ragner felt to protect Megan made it hard to ignore. The attraction grew into a mutual respect for each other.
There was a lot more to Aura of Night than the growing romance between Ragner and Megan. The suspense and danger kept the pages turning. The psychological aspect centered around the mystery of who exactly The Embracer was kept changing and shifting and the mystery is far from over at the end of this story.
I also loved seeing the familiar characters and meeting new ones. I can’t wait to both continue playing catch up with the Krewe of Hunters and get to know Patrick Law better in Voice of Fear.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of Aura of Night. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Aura of Night by Heather Graham continues the Embracer mystery within the Krewe of Hunter series. This time we spend time with Krewe Agent Ragnar Johnson and book editor Megan Law, who is writing a book about her experience with the Embracer. Suspense, paranormal elements and wicked chemistry await you….
While his partner is away on his honeymoon, FBI Agent Ragnar Johnson is continuing to interview the suspects in the Embracer case. During an interview with one of them, he realizes that former victim Megan Law is in trouble. The tale that unfolds delivers suspense and sparks as the two share a safe house and Megan uses her gift with words to listen to the suspects.
When a package containing a grizzly discovery arrives at Megan’s NY office addressed to her, she agrees to accompany Ragnar back to DC. These two have chemistry but also bump heads until they work together. Megan brings her dog and the two of them work to crack the case.
The case has many layers, twists and turns. I am loving the paranormal elements of the Law siblings’ gifts. When Patrick Law, a criminal psychologist, learns his sister Megan is in trouble, he heads to DC. The conversations between Patrick and Ragnar cracked me up, as did Megan’s reactions.
Danger is never far behind, and Graham delivered some intense scenes that kept me reading into the wee hours. These books are familiar, like a warm blanket and perfect for snuggling up with. They pull you in and keep you engaged.
This mini-series within the Krewe of Hunters series featuring the Law siblings and the overall story arc of the Embracer has been a good one, and I cannot wait for the next book, Voice of Fear, featuring Patrick Law.
This story is about Megan and Ragnar, who were briefly in the book preceding this one. Megan is a triplet, and in the previous story had been kidnapped by a serial killer that Ragnar was helping to catch. He was caught, but was he the only one? Another installment in one of my favorite series—the Krewe of Hunters. There are ghosts and killers and a good mystery with a bit of romance. I would highly recommend this book, but would suggest reading at least the book before this.
ourage isn't not being afraid. Courage is doing the right thing even when you are.
Paranormal thriller
Megan Law is stronger and she knows what she must do. She partners with FBI investigator Ragnar Johnson whom they have a very strong chemistry which binds the plot and moves it forward. A killer is on the loose who is bringing other killers in the web - the dark web. Together they piece together how it is being done and bring the killer down from prison.
A special thank you to Harlequin and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I love mystery suspense novels and the Krewe of Hunter series so this book was perfect for me. I really liked getting to know these set of characters and hearing from time to time previous characters from the series pop up. There was just so much twists and turns and just so much to keep me hooked till the very end. Overall great mystery. Also if you are new to this series they can be seen as stand alone were if you missed the previous books its easy to catch up of what's going on being that each book has its own different set of characters and mystery its just nice to see previous characters pop up sometimes but you won't miss a thing if you just pick this book up its a really good one!
Aura of Night by Heather Graham is the 37th book in her Krewe of Hunters series. I am a big fan of Heather Graham, as her romance suspense books are always exciting and action packed. Aura of Night is the second book in this trilogy arc. The last book (1st in trilogy arc) was centered on Colleen, who is an FBI agent (with the Krewe Hunters), and in this book, her sister Megan is the lead.
Megan, our heroine, is a book editor, and her publisher wants her to write about her experience when she was kidnapped (mistaken identity, supposed to be Colleen), almost buried alive. Though Megan is back at work, she still has nightmares, and not to mention psychic abilities, such as seeing the dead. When the FBI agent comes to NY, he convinces Megan that she is still in danger, and when she receives a horrific package, she knows that she needs to go to a safe house with the agent, whom she has a crush on.
Ragnar Johanson, our hero, interviews the two men (now in prison) who were responsible in killing multiple women, and he immediately suspects there are more people outside under the guise of The Embracer; and he knows he has to get to Megan. Together they arrive at a safe house, with some other agents, but Megan is determined to work closely with Ragnar to help find the clues, using her abilities; in order to help save other women. Ragnar agrees and Megan joins his investigation. Megan watches Ragnar interview the men in prison, and immediately senses danger for someone else; they race against time to save one woman from being buried alive, and discover another villain. Who truly is the Embracer and how is he puling in strange people to do his deeds?
What follows is a tense exciting thriller that will have Ragnar, Megan, and other members of the Krewe team, working together to save the women. I loved Megan’s dog, Hugo, who was so important in finding those buried. To say too much more would be spoilers, and you need to read this from start to finish, as there are some twists and surprises.
The wild tense ending as we raced to the climax, had me holding my breath to see who will survive. Aura of Night was an exciting, intense, suspenseful, dark story of murder, with a sweet slow burn romance, great couple and lots of action throughout. Once again, Heather Graham gives us a wild, mindboggling thriller, that kept our attention from start to finish. I did like that both Ragnar and Megan, as they made a great couple. If you like intense supernatural thrillers, which is written so very well by Graham, then I suggest you read Aura of Night.
A fantastic, heart pounding read, with so many twists and turns that even the most able reader will not have a clue who the final culprit might be. Well done, Ms. Graham, and keep them coming!

As we quickly discover in Aura of Night, the killer might be more cunning (this picks up where Sound of Darkness left off) and is now coming for Megan. Ragnar, Mark's partner, swoops in right away to keep Megan safe. Megan, like Colleen has a unique talent as well that helps her and Ragnar save victims and hone in on the killer. Because Megan and Ragnar already know each other from Sound of Darkness, their romance is a little different. Megan has a crush on Ragnar, and these two kind of dance around each other as the tension builds. I think I liked this couple more than Colleen and Mark!
Another great book from Heather Graham. She is one of my go to authors because she never disappoints.
Aura of Night by Heather Graham is the thirty-seventh book in the Krewe of Hunters series and can easily be read as a standalone. I am a big fan of Heather Graham and was excited to read Aura of Night. This was an exciting, intense, suspenseful, dark story of murder, with a sweet slow-burn romance and lots of action throughout. Heather Graham's writing kept my attention from start to finish. If you like intense supernatural thrillers, I recommend reading Aura of Night.
As the continuation of the story, this didn't disappoint, the excitement, suspense and thrills were amazing. I can't wait to see if there is still more to the story and if so how it plays out.
I've read many, but not all, of the books in the series, and they're always hit or miss for me. This book fell in the middle for me. The mystery is solid, and I enjoyed the surprise twist at the end. Nice to see familiar characters, as well.
Love the inclusion of heroic animals. Continuation of Darkness of Night storyline. Have they caught all the killers yet? More love and marriage.
Great book. Hard to put down. Keeps you reading long after you should stop. This is the second of the newest trilogy and these concern triplets and how their gifts help the Krewe. Of course, relationships always grow which puts the romance in romantic thrillers. As with others in this series, other Krewe members are included to help with the newest cases. Now waiting to read number three.
I found this series with the last installment and it involved Megan's sister, Colleen, who is an FBI agent for the Krewe Hunters. Megan is a book editor who has been asked to write a book about her experience when she was visiting Colleen and kidnapped when she was mistaken for her sister by The Embracer and nearly buried alive. Her experience has left her with nightmares and she is having a hard time concentrating. Ragnar Johanson is now working the case and while interviewing the suspect he is lead to believe Megan is in danger. He immediately goes to NYC and is at her office when she receives a package that clearly marks her for danger. Off to DC they go and to a safe house. Since Megan has the ability to "see between the lines" and "hear what is being said between those lines" she agrees to help with the investigation. I enjoyed this one just as much as the last one and the third triplet shows up and I suspect he will get his own book next, at least I hope so. Have we seen the last of The Embracer? Do we actually have The Embracer or there only one? So many questions...
Megan wants to forget her kidnapping and move on, but her publisher wants her to write a book about it. A package arrives at her office with a head in it. Apparently the threat isn’t over for Megan. FBI agent Ragnar Johnson thinks Megan can help him in his investigation. This is part of the Krewe Of Hunters Series but could be read as a stand alone. The book has mystery, a romance and a surprise at the end. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. A fast paced and suspenseful read from Heather Graham. I really enjoy her Krewe of Hunters series and can never get enough of them. We meet Megan Law a book editor that has been asked by her publishers to write a book about her experience when she was kidnapped and about to be buried alive. Megan agrees because she feels that this might keep other women safe. FBI investigator Ragnar Johnson met Megan when she became involved in their last case because of her sister Coleen. Ragnar was interviewing the Embracer in prison and from his interview felt that Megan was in danger from someone that the Embracer knew outside of prisoner. He rushes to New York just in time when Megan receives a package with a gruesome reminder that her nightmare wasn’t over. Ragnar convinces Megan to go into a safe house but also to help him with his investigation because of her knowledge of reading between the lines when it comes to words. Will Megan and Ragnar solve this mystery of who really is the Embracer?
