I really love the cover and I love that this is set in a circus. The lawyer aspect is genius and hilarious and I'll be reading more of Swam and Norton in the future.

I'm not exactly sure what I read. I didn't hate it but I also didn't love it either. I don't think I will be continuing on with the series.

This is the second book in the series which I wasn't aware of. Two stars for the opening scene and the following chapter. I wasn't a fan of the writing otherwise. I'm not a fan when character goes back and forth between past and present. DNF

This book was read thanks to NetGalley.

my initial thought... did they kiss and i missed or they never kissed?

The story follows Penny that live almost literally throw her in the way of her past love, she has to decided if his ex circus is worthy investing, ex that she left sort on his own, when he joined a circus she was supposed to do, but in the end she didn't.

As we see them catching up again, we see how things went for them, and how their feelings are there, Penny worked good to introduce us to the story and the character.

My only thought rn is... did they kiss?

This is a second-chance romance - with an emphasis on what it means to take a risk. Dalton and Penny were an almost romance in high school The romance ended when Dalton literally ran away to join the circus. Penny was supposed to go too - but circumstances changed and she didn't join Dalton. Now years later, Dalton is trying desperately to keep his circus afloat. Penny is an employee of the investment company helping keep the circus going - she's sent out to evaluate the circus before they put any more money into it.

This book definitely fed into that fantasy of running away and just doing something totally impractical and just fun. Penny has stayed away from anything like that for a long time - meanwhile it has become Dalton's life. Penny is definitely an outsider to the circus life, but she brings a perspective to it that is clearly sorely needed. Both she and Dalton have a lot of work to do to see things from a different view and to get past the past.

I liked the perspective of this book - and how much growth all of the characters experience. The book dragged a bit - and I kept getting a bit lost in the whos who of it all. I think I would have liked more focus on Penny and Dalton's relationship - rather than the business of the circus. Also - although Dalton and Penny do fall back in love with each other - I don't think there is much more than a single kiss between them in terms of physical contact.

I received this via NetGalley as an ARC, but these opinions are all my own.

At first I was kind of iffy on this book because some of the character names annoyed me, but I ended up really enjoying it. I’m lo9ing forward to reading the next book in this series and enjoyed how the new book character kind of got introduced at the end of this one. Penny and Dalton were cute and just awkward enough to be relatable without being annoying. I could have done without the numerous y’all’s from one character though. Bleh. Just too many.

Overall a very cute rom com with a satisfying story and ending. A rarity these days!
