I found this book asked some really interesting questions for reflection, however I initially tried to bite it off in one hit (not one sitting but as a continuous thing) and found that I couldn’t do it. I think it is a book where you should pick and choose depending on what feels relevant at the time and then come back to it and see how your answers change overn’time too.
Great book for a young adult starting out in life to place themsleves on an authentic path to finding their own happiness in life. Great antidotes from the author's life sprinkled in to truly bring the concepts home. Overall, great gift for entry into and navigating the responsibility of adulthood.
This would make a great gift for the high school or college graduate in your life. The questions are something that would be important to consider in that transitional "finding yourself" time. However, there is value and something to learn throughout for anyone of any age, at any point in life. If you've done some therapy or work on yourself, you may find some of this is a refresher, or you may gain a new way to approach a familiar topic. I really enjoyed that there was the question with guiding information, followed by a way to think deeper and/or activities to help you get to the root of the answer. A worthwhile read.
HOW AM I DOING? by Corey Yeager outlines "40 Conversations to Have with Yourself." However, if you wish to do so it may be best to check out the amazon Look Inside feature. That shows the 40 questions although it doesn't provide supporting detail and prompts. Unfortunately, the preview supplied through NetGalley is an extremely poor quality rendition of this text. The formatting was terrible due to numerous (and seemingly arbitrary) repeats of the content. I truly appreciate previews and know they are often not perfect, but I had to give up trying to read this after just a few pages.
I appreciate that this is a really approachable and accessible self-help book designed to empower people to, well, help themselves! The questions and exercises are direct and uncomplicated, which is a refreshing change in the self-help book sector. Sometimes you don't want an overwhelming, overly-academic approach to figuring out who you are and what you want... you just want someone who will sit down and talk to you. Dr. Yeager is doing that as much as possible in this book, so it feels more like a conversation or journal prompts than therapy (albeit a one-sided conversation).
I can see this being very useful for people who don't know where to start or want to dip their toes into self-help gently.
The 40 questions in this book can change your life if you take the necessary time to explore them. Have a journal handy to get the most out of this book. Psychologist and Detroit Piston’s Team Therapist, Dr. Corey Yeager knows how to bring out the potential in people.
“Who knows you best?” is one of the 40 questions and it’s a bit of a trick question in that what Corey is really getting at is, “Do you trust yourself?” The questions asked in this book are multi-layered…the initial question opens you up to think much more deeply about the beliefs, attitudes, and stories you tell yourself that might be holding you back. This book is a great tool to use for personal growth with or without working with a therapist. It’s a wonderful resource to bring your vision for your life into sharp focus. Having this book to refer back to time and again when workingvtoward individual goals will be invaluable.
Uplifting and inspiring book
Short self-help book with simple to understand language and bite-sized chapters . It was an enjoyable read and ideal for when you need a motivational boost.
I love this book. There are two principles that have been powerful for me, in this short time that the book has been with me. And I have the feeling that the different chapters generate in conjunction a great ambience of positivity. I will be extending my review when the book will be released. I could not wait to thank for the advanced copy
This book was incredible , I can’t recommend it enough. We don’t check in with ourselves as much as we should and we are the only person we will always have, so it’s time to get to know ourselves and this book helps with that
I appreciate that this book may provide mental health support to a group that is traditionally underserved: sports fans. Since the author had a prior career in sports, he can speak authentically to that audience. While I am not a member of that audience, I found the book to be extremely authoritative and well written. Thanks to the authors, publisher, and NetGalley for access to the ARC.
Dr. Corey Yeager provides personal anecdotes to readers as he invites us to ask ourselves challenging questions. He encourages readers to "look into the mirror" and face the version of themselves that they ARE and focus on the version they want to become. Each chapter includes a personal, reflective writing activity to begin challenging your own views to become the best version of yourself.
I cannot recommend this title enough for people who are feeling stuck, or are looking to make a change in their lives.
**I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher, through Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.
