You'll always hook me (ha) with a retelling, especially if it's a Peter Pan retelling. And this really is everything a PP retelling should be. If you missed the angst and romance in the original tale, its here and more. Simply almost perfect. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
A different take on an old tale. To echo the other reviewers, this is a sexy retelling of Peter Pan with some twists along the way, e.g. Hook is a friend rather than foe which can distract as I was expecting some sort of rebelling/fall out in the usual way we know their relationship.
Brilliant writer, created a fantastical world that pulls you in from the beginning.
A sexy, refreshing and amusing take on an old fable. I love the way the author captures your attention and is able to take you on the journey. The characters are alluring and captivating, the story is exhilarating and entertaining. Lost and Found is definitely a keeper and one I would recommend to readers.
Lost and Found is a modern retelling of Peter Pan and I will be honest in that these are not my favorite kind of stories and I wouldn't naturally gravitate to them. However, I do think the author did a good job with how she re-created the story in her own way and I overall enjoyed the characters. I did find myself skimming a little here and there, which is not something I normally do. I really liked Peter, and I absolutely adored the ending and the second epilogue has me quite intrigued about Hook's story. I have not read this author before, but the book was well written and I would like to check out some of the author's other work in the future.
Thank you NetGalley and Gina L. Maxwell for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
WHAT I LIKED:
This book is a modern retelling of Peter Pan, and I honestly think this was done quite well. Peter is all about Wendy both during the adult scenes and the flashback childhood scenes. I do think that those flashback scenes were vital in telling the whole story and they were laid out perfectly! Pan is a perfect gentleman throughout the book, minus those bedroom scenes... things get a little naughty in there... But I loved this book as a whole. Tink was a feisty little pixie with a bad attitude towards Wendy just as she is in the old fairytale, and I am beyond happy that that part of her stayed.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
Hook is supposed to be Peter Pan's enemy.. He was a friend in this book and I am not 100% sure how I feel about that.. It almost ruined a part of the story for me.. There are a couple cliffhangers in this story, who is sabotaging, and why was that one pirate arrested..
OVERALL / RECOMMENDATION:
This is an incredible modernization of the classic Peter Pan, It will forever be a recommendation to everyone who loves a fairytale retelling and romance. I have book two now and will be reading it shortly. Thank you again so, so much for sending me a copy of this book.
Lost and Found, book one in the Lost Boys novels, is a super sexy, lightly angsty, friends-to-lovers and second-chance contemporary romance. Such a wonderful book. Utterly unique, exquisitely crafted and quietly powerful.
Omg this was a nice little childhood remembrance escape, but make it adult! I absolutely loved this ride and automatically had to download book two. I love the cover rebranding as well.
The most unique take on an old story I have ever read. Peter and the rest of the Lost Boys will have you glued to the story. I love this version of Wendy and Peter. It's a second chance romance with a lot of heat and just the right amount of angst. Sexy and well written, this story was so good I was up way past my bedtime. I rushed to get Hook's book. I really can't wait for more!
A new modern twist on Peter Pan and the lost boys. Peter and the boys never had the best life growing up and Peter always tried his best to keep them out of trouble. He had Wendy to keep him sane growing up and he hoped that one day they would land up together. But he couldn't leave his family behind when Wendy asked him to move. That is his one regret.
Wendy has always loved Peter since he was a young boy and she knew that he wouldn't come with her when she asked and she hopes that she isn't too late.
She needs Peter's help to help raise money for a good cause she is nervous seeing him again after all this time but she had nothing to be worried about.
Peter can't believe that she is standing in his shop but will he be able to let her go again? But someone is about to cause big problems for them both but will they be able to overcome it all?
A good read. Loved Tink she was my favourite character in this read. She has a good heart but she is all confused about her feelings.
Thank you Netgalley & Gina Maxwell for the copy. This is my voluntary review.
Another great book by Gina L. Maxwell! Seriously, I think I’m in love with her!!
What I liked about the book:
I love three things:
1. Fairy-tale retellings/reimaginings. Something about taking the concepts I grew up on and twisting them for my now-adult brain really works for me (let’s not look into the psychology behind that one). I especially enjoy when something as magical as Peter Pan is worked into an everyday setting, like mechanics and illegal businesses.
2. I love a good dirty, yet sweet romance. In other words, I love the whole “dominate-me-during / cuddle-me-after” scenario, and Mr. Pan delivered! He is without a doubt a total dom, but he still calls her baby.
ALSO, when he asked if he could give Wendy a “real kiss”, when he stated “I used to be a Lost Boy, but the night I met Wendy, I became found”, and when he made them necklaces from their childhood gifts to one another??? STAHP! He is just the sweetest, most adorable badass I’ve read in a while. Like, can we stop with the perfect MMCs, Gina??? You’re creating unrealistic expectations!
3. I love spinoff potentials!!! So glad I got the chance to read this now when I can go scoop up Hooks book next!
...Ahem…Gina…where is my Tink book? I feel that one is going to be FIRE! I need Tink and Michael…STAT!
What didn’t do it for me:
1. This is totally a me problem, but I guess I was looking for a bit more maturity in Peter Pan. I know, that’s stupid. But it’s a reimagining…Why did you wait until the last minute to order something knowing this was the biggest event of your woman’s career? Come on, dude, get it together.
I received a copy of this ARC from NetGalley and Gina L. Maxwell in exchange for my honest review.
Gotta say, I had to DNF it. The writing is good, but the plot is dragging too much. I cannot find it in me to continue reading it even if I have only around 20% of the book left to read.
I was really interested in knowing how this retelling was going to turn out like, but then I remembered how much I don’t really like Peter Pan (sorry, I guess).
I am, however, very much interested in reading book two! M/M with Hook?? Yes, thank you.
I think this book was wonderful. The adaptation from fairytale to this was wonderful because even though it was so vastly different, it still retained a few of the things from the original. It made it a fantastic read.
I love it and would totally read it again!!
!!4 stars for you, my darling!!
Quick side note; HOOK I LOVE YOU COME TO ME I LOV- ok that’s enough.
Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this!
A nice book, a quick light read for me but I did enjoy it, and read it in one sitting, a good story with a good ending ..
I didn’t really enjoy this one and I can’t say I finished it as it just wasn’t for me but thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read anyway!
this was a pretty fun re-telling. it was a pretty unique take on the lost boys. the dialogue was easy to fall into and i was entertained for most of the book. some parts got slow but that seems to be the case with many dark romances.
Gina L. Maxwell is such a good writer!!
This is a modern retelling of Peter Pan. I’m not a big fun of these kind of stories but I always enjoy Gina’s books. The bond between Peter and Wendy is strong since childhood, when she used to sneak out to see him at the rundown orphanage for boys.
But she left for college, broking his heart. And now, she’s is coming back. She´s organizing a fundraiser and needs Peter, master mechanic, to help her rebuild a classic car for an auction that'll help hundreds of foster kids. They have a second chance, and this time, he is not letting her go.
This book is engaging and full of intense moments. As usual, the sexy times are amazing and the dialogs smart and witty. I enjoyed the side characters a lot and the witting was absolutely perfect. Now I need Hook’s story!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love retellings it is one of my favourite genres and especially retellings of one of my favourite things of all time - and that would be Peter Pan. It was really well written with well developed characters that I really loved, I also really liked how the author made it her own stories which is not an easy thing when the stroy is so well known, I didn't feel like it was just spewing out the same storyline.
I am so excited for what is to come next - I really loved it.
