It was a short and fun read. I really like cozy mysteries and they almost never get it wrong. The thing I liked the most was the audiobook format; I think it is the best way to enjoy this kind of books. I don't have much to say, I don't even remember many details of the plot, I just know that it was a good read to pass the time, I will definitely look to read more of the series.

While listening to this, my phone stopped working. Once I received my new phone and downloaded the Netgalley app I lost all my downloaded audiobooks. I was unable to finish.

I typically don’t read series out of order but I did on this one. I can’t say that it would be a series that I would fall into or love. It was a lot of nosy neighbors searching for exciting things happening in the town.

Thanks #NetGalley for the advance copy

Aunt Dimity and the Enchanted Cottage is the 25th in a beloved series. If you haven't read all of the previous ones, this can stand alone enough to figure out the plot lines. Characters are quirky and kind. This is for mystery fans who want plot twists without violence and gore.

THE PERFECT COTTAGECORE FEEL-GOOD MYSTERY WITH VIBES OF GILMORE GIRLS.
This was so cozy, quaint and sweet.
The narrator was amazing and I felt like I made new friends with the characters in this book. It was definitely more on the slow side, but to me, that's what made it so cozy :)
Highly recommend!

This was a cute story.

I didn't know that this book was a part of a series, but I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

Everything about this book reminded me exactly of what I think a little English town would be like. From the residents to the cottages and the way the town was described and the banter between the residents. I can't wait to return for a visit to this cute little town!

It was the perfect read for me!

Thank you to the author, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the advanced audiobook version of this story!

Lori Shepherd and everyone in Finch are excited for the new tenant in Pussywillows cottage. Mr. Windle is nothing like they expect. As Lori and friends explore the mystery Mr. Windle brings to their village, they learn about themselves and grow closer as a village.
The narrator does an excellent job.
As usual I are away feeling filled up by visiting with Aunt Dimity, Lori and my visit to Finch. Nancy Atherton has a knack for a simple story made better by the sharing of it.
I will always recommend books in the Aunt Dimity series.
Thanks to Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook.

This is the 25th installment of the Aunt Dimity Mystery Series. I have only read the first book in the series and I have missed a lot. This books stands alone well. The setting is inviting and peaceful. I can envision it easily as I read. The characters in this books are realistic. Each one could be someone I know. The plot moves at a steady pace and keeps you engaged. If you must stop reading (or listening in my case) it is easy to pick up and remember what was happening. Listening to this book as made me want to go back and pick-up where I left off with book 2. I recommend this book.

Aunt Dimity And The Enchanted Cottage by revered author Nancy Atherton is the 25th book in the Aunt Dimity series but can be read as a stand alone.

In a quaint English town the quirky neighbors gather to watch elderly widower Crispen move into the enchanted cottage known as a romantic haven. But he's a quiet loner with secrets. Soon the town's buried history, a broken down mill, child labor and unmarked graves are revealed as Crispen's secrets become the town's truth. Famed actress Christina Moore brings gravitas to this cozy mystery.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media via NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This Is A Review Of The Audiobook

although this is the twenty-fifth installment of the aunt dimity series, this is my first time reading/listening to anything by nancy atherton. i thought this was a refreshing take on a mystery because it doesn’t center around any murder but instead is focused on the unknown background of crispin windle. it was pretty interesting and i had no idea what to expect as the chapters went on. however i kept waiting and waiting for the action to reach its climax but before i knew it, i was ending the near if the audiobook.

speaking of which, i thought the narrator did an amazing job nailing all of the characters and their accents! i imagine finch as being a charming little town and it’s full of many curious residents who let gossip spread like wildfires! i think i would enjoy any future aunt dimity novel more since i’d be more familiar with all the characters. a lot of them are introduced within the first few chapters and it gets quite challenging to keep up with everyone’s names

I was expecting more from this book since I have read a few of the previous ones. Not much really happens. I liked the parts about the graves but that was about it.

I've read most of the books in this series. Since the characters are familiar I found it easy to get into. If you have read none be warned that the first chapter is a huge name drop! The story is cute and easy to follow.

About five years ago I read Aunt Dimity's Christmas which I had picked up at a charity book sale. All I really remember about that book was that there was a spirit that gave advice. Even though I haven't read any other books in the Aunt Dimity mystery series, I decided to pick up the latest book in the series Aunt Dimity and the Enchanted Cottage. It's book 25 in the series but I don't need to read the previous books.

I love cozy mysteries but I don't read a lot of "paranormal" cozies which is probably why I haven't really sought out this series. But I wouldn't really classify this series as paranormal. Yes, there is a spirit that lives in a journal where the main character Lori shares details of the mystery. Aunt Dimity was a friend of Lori's grandmother. There is some explanation about Aunt Dimity and the journal - I didn't fully get it but decided just to go with the flow. Other than this spirit there is nothing else that would be close to "paranormal" in the book.

Another difference between this cozy mystery and others that I read is that there isn't a murder - there isn't really even a crime. The village of Finch has a new resident. He has rented a cottage where previous occupants have found love, hence the reference to the enchanted cottage. The older gentleman is mysterious - moving in with a few boxes (some oddly shaped) and keeps to himself. It is driving the curious residents crazy. I would call them busybodies. A group of them sits across the street at the tea shop to watch his front door. They do seem to have good intentions as they fear that he is lonely and may harm himself. But getting to know their new neighbor is just the first step in the mystery.

I liked that there wasn't a death to investigate - I'm sure it helps to keep this long-running series from feeling a bit silly with residents, visitors, etc dying in each book. I also liked that Lori is a mom. A lot of cozy mystery sleuths are single or empty-nesters. She has a toddler who is with her a lot.

Aunt Dimity and the Enchanted Cottage had a vibe similar to M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin series. If you are a fan of Agatha Raisin and haven't given the Aunt Dimity series a chance, you should definitely pick it up.

The story was easy to follow as an audiobook. Christina Moore did a good job as narrator. All the characters have their own voice and it was easy to tell them apart. She also read Lisa Lutz's Spellmans series which I listened to.

If you are looking for a light read in a charming English village, then you should read this book.

I found this book mildly interesting at points, but overall....kind of nothing.

A book centering around a new man who comes to town and the nosy citizens of the town watch him constantly and constantly deliver casseroles in order to find out more about him. Who is he, what's the weird thumping sound? And the narrator speaks to her aunt via a magic journal for advice.

But all the questions surrounding the neighbor and the mystery of who he is, then the answers aren't really all that thrilling.

The village charm aspect was cute but overall it was kind of.....eh

This newest Aunt Dimity mystery from Nancy Atherton is the 25th in the Aunt Dimity series and follows the residents of Finch, a small fictional town set in the Cotswolds, through the eyes of the narrator Lori, as a newcomer with unclear intentions and an unexpected deep sorrow moves to town. This book was a very quick, cozy read and an absolute pleasure start to finish. The Aunt Dimity books specialize in solving mysteries without murders, an interesting shift in the genre. And while I did miss some of the stakes that come with a major crime or murder mystery, this examination of personality was arguably more enjoyable without it! With only a few words and a couple lines, each of the uniquely eccentric characters of Finch are introduced and immediately filled out. This was my first Aunt Dimity read, something I didn't realize until I had already jumped in and was quickly hooked, but it was a delightfully easy world to jump into. As a new-comer, I expected to have some challenges following a fairly large cast of pre-established characters but was surprised and thrilled to discover that these characters are so well constructed as to be quite easily followed. Pulling on a combination of small-town English stereotypes and the also stereotypical individuals who disrupt their norms, Atherton creates a lovable collection of recognizable but still unique characters to fill out her world and lend charm and intrigue to the mystery surrounding this potentially magical cottage and it's new resident.

I've already jumped back to read about where it all began, with Aunt Dimity's Death! It's hooked me pretty immediately, and the sense of intrigue that the book builds up around Lori's fate and the absent character of Dimity are wildly engaging, even knowing as I do where the mystery goes. While I don't know if I'll read the whole series, when I was given access to this ARC I was thrilled to jump into Lori and Dimity's charming, and just a bit magical, world.
