Watercolor painting at home is a lovely book for inspiring new watercolor artist. I like the way the author provides tips how to hold the brush for each technique. The book also has lovely illustrations and diy project to experiment with. All in all a recommended book for watercolor artist.
Thanks to netgalley, Quarto publishing group and Bley Hack for this ARC.
Charming book on watercolor painting at home. The author introduces tips and tricks to create artworks inspired by home and garden.
I think this is a really good book to read and complete activities to learn watercolour. I had been in an art slump before and thought this book would inspire me to get back into doing art. The descriptions are very easy to follow and the projects that are suggested are quite nice to do. I will definitely try some of the painting techniques out when I have the time as they seemed very useful! I liked how the book showed you how to paint different flowers as well as what techniques to use for various other regulars when watercolouring. I would recommend this book to beginners for sure as it isn't over complicated at all.
An excellent resource to improve skill and provide inspiration for anyone wanting to dabble in watercolour painting.
I found the step by step projects easy to follow, motivating and aesthetically pleasing (some may even grace my walls!)
The techniques section at the start of this book was really useful, giving just the right amount of information to help develop skills without being unnecessarily wordy.
The illustrations were on point. I really cant find anything to fault. This is a book I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
Bley Hack has made a great book on watercolor painting using home and everyday life as an inspiration. Color theory is mentioned and explained well. She gives some great tips including some about paint mixing. I particularly enjoy that she offers some unique items to make like a recipe card, gift bags and a flower jar. I've got to get going now so I can get my watercolors out and try out some of her techniques.
This book has been written for me. They don't know me but they seem to know there are some people at every corner of the streets who wants to paint some watercolor and produce some basic art but rather clueless on how to do it and from where to start. Also, we don't want to annoy others when we are this ignorant regarding the basic things about something so common. And that's how this book was written for me.
Thank you, author/artist, the publishing team at Quarto Publishing Group - Walter Foster, for the advance reading copy.
Simple and Cheery! Cute ideas for watercolour beginners and enthusiasts with instructions and basic drawings, so that those of us without drawing skills can still create cute and whimsical artwork. Also includes ideas of painting rooms and other items found around your home.
This is such a lovely book full of inspiration, instruction and ideas.
The author guides you through supplies, composition and finding subjects for watercolour paintings around your home and garden. Some basic instruction in using watercolour paints and brushes is given.
The designs are very pretty and colourful with advice given on choosing colour palettes and composition.
There are a number of step by step projects with examples of how to adapt or extend these to other projects.
Well suited to a beginner but also providing lots of design ideas for more experienced artists.

This charming, accessible book has a wonderful premise: if we need to stay at home, let’s find creative inspiration from everyday items that we can see all around us. Bley Hack uses basic, inexpensive materials and tools and a few standard watercolor techniques to set up painting everyday items including bowls, flowers, and even a set of keys in the dish by the door. Hack recommends a loose style which doesn’t require absolute accuracy or realism, but which makes the most of the unique features of watercolor painting. At the end of the book she shares a number of fun painted crafts including gift bags, holiday decorations and cake toppers. The thing I love most about this book is that none of the paintings or exercises seem simplistic - the author assumes that painters of all skill and experience levels can make lovely, sophisticated things. Highly recommended.

Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher, for the opportunity to read and give an honest review of this book.
This is a bright and colorful watercolor book for beginners. It demonstrates the use of items and places around the home for subject matter. The introduction
to watercolor materials and color theory is brief. Then, it jumps right into
painting.
Painting is done in the loose watercolor style. If you enjoy that style, this may be the book for you. The author’s ideas for painting holiday decor, gift bags, wreaths, and even an advent calendar are clever and useful.
The illustrations are eye catching and this would be a good addition to the art and craft shelf in your library.
This book is delightful and inspirational. I feel motivated to get out the watercolor set I purchased that has been languishing. I worked through the book that came with it them fear and anxiety side tracked me. What if I made a mistake or made something ugly. Bley Hack reassures you that nothing is lost. You can begin with cheap or scrap paper, just have fun. The important thing is your practice and get to know your brushes. You can't do that with out playing. Something adults have forgotten how to do. Hack gives you permission to just play, see what happens, doodle, try new things.
The illustrations and ideas are simple in design and easy to follow for a beginner. NO pressure to be perfect, she explains the beauty of watercolor is the imperfect flowy lines. She encourages you to be free hold your brush loosely and let the paint flow along with your creativity.
Watercolor Painting at Home is an excellent beginner guide that will encourage you to dip in and give it a go.
There are some good projects and lessons to follow with lots of tips and techniques to keep you on track. The book itself is beautiful full of gorgeous watercolour illustrations. Just flicking through will inspire you to give it a go. Perfect for getting beginners started in a fun but satisfying way.
Another fantastic watercolour book! This covers and explains all the basics, taking you through everything you need to know from colour theory and equipment, to getting stuck in and having a go. The terminology used is simple and easy to understand, perfect for beginners. The projects are really accessible, using everyday inspiration from around the home. You can paint the examples and follow the tips and instructions, or use the book as a guide and inspiration to make your own compositions from what you have available to you. Not only are there very clear step by step written instructions, but they are coupled with extremely helpful photographs to show you exactly what you’re aiming for at each stage in the process. It shows you how to layer up your painting by adding more colour and detail in clear, achievable steps. Would highly recommend!

This book is a great guide to finding inspiration around your own house for water coloring. I love all the illustrations included when going through the basics of watercoloring that were done in wonderful watercolor. I love the loose watercolors shown throughout the book. The demonstrations of the different layers of the painting helped me study my object and break it down into pieces for my watercolors. I am excited to continue using this guide as I continue my journey in watercolor.

Easy projects for Beginners
Artist Bley Hack works mainly in watercolors and presents her book "Watercolor Painting at Home. Easy-to-follow painting projects inspired by the comforts of home and the colors of the garden", published by Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster. This is a book of the "Inspired Artist Series" that is aimed for art hobbyists and casual art enthusiasts. The first part of the book touches topics such as "Finding Inspiration," "Tools & Materials," "Painting Techniques," "Design," and "Color Theory and Color Palettes." The second part of the book presents fifteen step-by-step projects such as "Fruit Bowl Still Life," "Kitchen Collection," and "Flora Outside Your Window." As a goal for her readers Hack invites them into her house and states: "I will show you how to look around at your surroundings and generate ideas One point I would like to emphasize is that the subject matter does not necessarily have to elicit excitement to make for an exciting painting If you look at historical and contemporary artists, many of them can take the most mundane subjects and turn them into brilliant work While our endeavors may not live on in history, they can inspire us to use the things at hand as fodder for our painting practice" (p. 5).
I like it that Hack makes it clear to her readers that one does not have to travel far to find inspiration for painting. There are tips, comments and blobs entitled "More Ideas" throughout the books. They are helpful and I appreciate also the fact that Hack shows ideas how paintings can be used, e.g. as cupcake toppers or for giftbags. I recommend this book for beginners and advanced artists who are looking for new ideas and who do not have the possibility to travel far.
